Not an expert by any means but my impression is that the real problem with his not getting open/ creating separation is maybe less a lack of speed and quickness and more the absence of the required footwork/refined pacing, which in the absence of raw speed is a necessity. Not to say that it cannot be developed but that's just not part of his background and coaching. Hard to learn from scratch at this level of play.

I think they mistook him for Drake London who lines up outside 85% of the time and whose projected 40 time is 4.58 - he didn't run it at the combine. Except again London had years to learn route running in a big program.
