Nobody knew anything about Winsome Earle-Sears until Labor Day. A well known conservative talk show host pointed out that in late Aug he called her election campaign to get her on the radio and never got in touch with anybody. There was simply no campaign activity. Spanberger, in contrast, announced her candidacy in 2023, was extremely well funded and was on local media at least three times per week since then. If the Republicans want a chance at the Gov house here, they have to name a credible candidate and run an aggressive campaign. They didn't and the only reason she ever got any traction was because of the lunatic texts and conversations from the now elected AG. From my perspective, the Virginia Republican party doesn't work nearly as hard as the opposition. I remember when Republicans (especially right here) were talking about Winsome as the future of the Republican Party. A true rising star. From what I saw she was a poor candidate. And candidate quality still matters. 1

That's crazy given that he's ineligible. Of course the theory is that he won't be the titular nominee ... he'll get in through some shenanigans (like the VP resigning, etc) 1

Perfect storm for Virginia where the lead GOP candidate was horrible & government shutdown mobilized NoVa into militant Dem. Miyares is about as milquetoast and competent as it gets for a politician nowadays. Generally viewed as doing a good job as AG. Yet lost to psychopath because Sears dragged the ticket down and NoVa is furious over the shutdown.

Very cool that she and Mikie Sherrill are roommates in DC when congress is in session. I think they"ll both be great governors for their respective states and work together when possible. Its as red as it’s ever been and both Greenville and Charleston have Republican Mayors. NC/GA are trending purple, just like PA/MI are doing the same. Florida and Ohio have become solid red, meanwhile Virginia and Colorado are solid blue with occasional false hope for R’s. The electoral realignment is that safe southern states in NC/GA for R’s and safe Rust Belt states like PA/MI for D’s are now the new battlegrounds. 1

Winsome Earle-Sears Makes Her Next Move and It's Big By Susie Moore Virginia Lieutenant Governor Winsome Earle-Sears has fast become a favorite of Republicans and conservatives since her 2021 victory in Old Dominion alongside Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin and Attorney General Jason Miyares. With her no-nonsense approach and her steadfast commitment to conservative ideals, Earle-Sears has endeared herself to the political right. Now, Earle-Sears is taking the next big step and throwing her hat into the 2025 Virginia governor's race. Since Virginia's Constitution prohibits governors from serving consecutive terms, Youngkin is ineligible to run in 2025. On Wednesday, Earle-Sears filed paperwork to run for the commonwealth's top spot. https://redstate.com/smoosieq/2024/09/05/virginia-lt-gov-winsome-earle-sears-makes-her-next-move-and-its-big-n2178942 1

Just doesn’t have it. More than ever, that’s a thing in politics nowadays. She also has a weird riff with Trump. The only people who called her a rising star are the Republicans who think any black conservative is a rising star because they want to use an identity politics reverse UNO card.

I think that's probably it, because I can't understand how she so, so severely underperformed Youngkin. Weird is back.

NC is blue if you look at any non presidential results map. For a very very long time. For all but about 35 years of NC statehood the governor has been blue, the AG has been blue, and the lt gov has been blue about 75%.
