Like I said before, the entire thing I silly (gerrymandering, that is). But no getting that toothpaste back in the tube. I think the issue with the current situation is the timing. Honest question: you see the issue - or at least see how some can have issue with it - with this not being aligned with the census and with Trump saying he deserves the 5 seats, right?

yup.  and it's bad for democracy.  it marginalizes voters.  bad enough you can win the presidency with less than a majority, but this cancels people.  Yes, both sides do it.  But this has gone nuclear.  And it's very bad.

Gene Wu Says Texas Dems Who Fled Democracy Are Suffering Financially and Mentally (for Their Cowardice)

Wow, Democrat Texas Representative Gene Wu looks rough. He says he and his fellow Democrats are suffering since they chose to abandon democracy and flee to their billionaire friend JB Pritzker’s hotel in Chicago. Looks like running away from a vote on redistricting is taking its toll. Oh, well.

NBC News: Here's the Texas Dems' Exit Strategy

John Sexton

Yesterday we learned that the Texas Democrats who fled the state to prevent a quorum and block a vote on redistricting were making plans to return home. Even though the article, from an ABC affiliate in Texas, didn't have a lot of detail it was pretty clear that the plan was to fold up their traveling tent and declare victory in some fashion. Today, NBC News has a more detailed follow-up story which goes into detail about the Texas Dems' exit strategy.

Texas Democrats met late into the night Tuesday then again Wednesday, including breaking into smaller groups, to discuss their next steps and what their ultimate exit strategy looked like after spending the last 10 days out of the state, according to four sources close to the talks.

TRUE

Gavin Newsom has rigged California elections in every possible way.

Requiring ID to vote is illegal.

Universal mail in ballots are the easiest way to commit fraud.

The DMV automatically registers people to vote.

Ballot harvesting is legal.

They made it illegal to hand count ballots.

There’s no set time limit for how long pulling stations have to count the votes.

Now he stands in front of the camera, with all the worst

California Democrats standing behind him, and tells you that

democracy depends on him rigging California elections even further.

BUT THE SUPREME COURT’S OPINION DOESN’T COUNT WHEN CONSERVATIVES ARE IN THE MAJORITY, I’M TOLD:

Who Says You Can Redistrict Mid-Decade? The Supreme Court.

“For the overwhelming majority of that two century history, Democrats have been the ones wielding the gerrymander pen, reaping the partisan advantage of lopsided representation. Now that Republicans are finally in a position to do the same, they want to to cry foul.”

Since the Constitution talks about having a census every ten years, some have interpreted this to mean redistricting can only occur every ten years, making Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s mid-decade redistricting plan unconstitutional. You know who says that idea is bunk? The United States Supreme Court.
