The immigration system is the way it is, because it suited the needs of both parties. Corporate republicans like illegals for cheap labor and Dems thought they were getting new voters. Trump exploited the issue to rise to power. If corporations exploiting labor are the problem, you should support the right to form labor unions so farm workers can get a living wage with decent work conditions and benefits. That will come with a subsequent rise in food prices. America can’t have both cheap food and farm jobs that legal Americans would want to work.

Just look at how you phrase all this, Andy1.  "Corporate Republicans...cheap labor" and "Dems getting new voters".  So...no cheap labor exploited by the Dems?  No Corporate Dems? No well-healed dems working the system?  "Trump exploited"?  Illegal immigration has been a hot button issue for decades, and he less 'exploited' than came up with a plan to address a long simmering problem.  If any politician in recent memory exploited anything, it was the Biden Free Pass crowd.  That resonated with voters as we saw the typical lefty cities--long on demanding open borders and pointing to how great it was for everybody---roll up into a ball 15 minutes after they were asked to feed/shelter/house a couple bus loads of people looking for a better life.

Unionization is one solution, but not the only one.   Offer jobs/benefits at a reasonable rate, said rate to be determined by the ability to find workers to do the work.  Liberals are going to have to pay more, probably, but consider the deep discount all these years with the exploitation of low wages for people flying under the radar.

How many times do you need to hear “ paycheck to paycheck”?

Do you find that to be a phenomenon new to the Trump era?

And that would be everyone.

Yeah, sure.  And then everyone would be affected by a black swan.  It’s so dumb it doesn’t merit discussion.

We used to offer a generous 401 match to encourage saving. It was common to see people take out most of their savings for stuff like trucks and boats. This plan would be even more of a disaster.

Legal citizens of the United States will start reporting to the fields when farmers stop paying minimum wage for maximum work.  Why the hell would any legal citizen go work on a farm doing back breaking work, in poor conditions, with no options for health insurance when they can make 17 or 18 dollars an hour putting together sandwiches at Subway or Burger King?

Amazing to me that liberals will take to the streets to protest illegals being deported, but don't seem to care about how they are taken advantage of by farmers.   Make no mistake about it, farmers may consider illegals "friends," they may show up to protest when ICE detains them for crimes, but they sure as hell aren't paying them a living wage or providing them health insurance.

It's incredible to me how of touch with reality people are.   COPORATIONS ARE BAD!!! RICH PEOPLE ARE BAD!!   FARMERS NEED ILLEGALS TO DO WORK AND PAY SLAVE LABOR TO SO THEY CAN MAXIMIZE PROFITS!!

Just because a corporation is dressed in flannel instead of a suit, doesnt mean they arent rich.     The farmers paying these people minimum wage arent Ma and Pa Kettle from American Gothic.

That's right! Make us pay more for food! That will show 'em!

This is true of course, all of it.

When we consider the plight of the modern liberal, it's virtually always the same--someone else has to do the heavy lifting.  Government has to compel them before they do more for the greater good.  Someone else has to work the fields to make their lives easier.  Someone else has shoulder the debt they incurred for higher education.

Oh, you don't eat? You did not attend a school someone else paid for?
