Thats not lofty, but the Bills haven’t been able to do that with 4 cracks at it. This may be the year.. There is stiff competition in the AFC West. It is not going to be a cakewalk for Mahomes and Reid from that division The AFC North teams always beat up on each other...Ravens will be challenged by Burrow and Rodgers. The AFC East and South are best left on the sidelines. The NFC South is nothing to shout about beyond the Buccaneers. The Bills have a good shot at getting the #1 seed in the AFC this year. What a Cindrella season it would be if the Bills give a big send off to Rich/Ralph Wilson/New Era/HighMark stadium with a big win in the AFC Championship game on the way to the Superbowl (and a victory in Allen's home state) Quote

Even in some of the Bills playoff wins (Dolphins in 2022 and Ravens in 2024) the Bills defense was shaky. I am willing to write off the 2022 Bengals loss as sort of the "Season from hell" from Buffalo tons of injuries on both sides of the ball and many other mentally exhausting things happening that season with the Demar Hamlin situation being the most notable. But the 4 KC Losses were mostly on the defense. The only playoff game where the defense "bailed out" Josh was the 2020 Divisional Round. That's it every other game the Bills defense played well (Broncos 2024, and Steelers 2023) the Bills offense put up big points too. In 12 playoff games since 2020 the Bills have only given Josh 3 good defensive performance and one "bail out" there's a reason why the Bills restocked the defense with younger talent in the draft (no WR fell that wasn't a slot and they needed the talent injection.) You forgot the Colts game! We were the first team in NFL history to win a game while allowing 450+ yards with 0 forced turnovers. 1 1 Quote

Sounds like it might be a pretty good defense Tell that to the Kansas City Chiefs…, the eat our defenses lunch regularly in the post season, the problem is that Sean/ DC don’t really add new wrinkles to keep KC guessing, and the chiefs march down the field taking advantage of our soft coverages, annually, the entire defensive scheme prevents the development of a top defensive game wrecker, ever notice over the last seven years we’ve never had one of those ??? GO BILLS!!! 1 Quote
Thrivefourfive Posted Friday at 09:07 PM Posted Friday at 09:07 PM Let’s ask this: Of McDermott was just the DC and not the HC, would/should he have been fired for the playoff let downs? I think Yes Quote
Nihilarian Posted Friday at 09:08 PM Posted Friday at 09:08 PM So much has to do with just plain bad luck... also injuries to the defense over the years. Andy Reid recently having 2 ex head coaches as his DC & OC. Meanwhile Buffalo had an old school DC who went to a prevent defense for the 13 seconds. Also, in the past 8 seasons how many changes have been made at DC and OC for the Buffalo Bills? Last season the Buffalo Bills led the NFL in turnover ratio and yet had one of the worst 3rd down defenses in the league. Although the Buffalo defense was 11th on points allowed they were also 17th in yards allowed. in 2017 the Buffalo offense and defense were 22nd in points scored, 29 in yards. the defense was 18th in points allowed, 26th in yards allowed. At 9-7 playoffs. 2018 the Buffalo offense was 30th in points, 30th in yards. the defense was 18th in points allowed while #2 in points allowed. 6-10 2019 the Buffalo offense 23rd in points, 24th in yards. The defense was #2 in points allowed, #3 in yards allowed. 10-6 playoffs 2020 the Buffalo offense was #2 in points scored, #2 in yards. the defense was #16 in points allowed, #14 in yards allowed. 13-3 playoffs 2021 the Buffalo offense was #3 in points scored, #5 in yards. the defense was #1 in points allowed, #1 in yards allowed. 13 seconds lost in OT 36 to 42. 11-6 playoffs 2022 the Buffalo offense was #2 in points, #2 in yards. The defense was #2 in points allowed, #6 in yards allowed. 13-3 2023 the Buffalo offense #6, #4, Defense was #4, #9. 11-6 playoffs 2024 the Buffalo offense was #2 in points scored, #10 in yards. the defense was #11th in points allowed, #17th in yards allowed. 13-4 playoffs. The Buffalo Bills have come a long way under this regime. This season the Bills might finally have a good enough defensive line to stop the run and get pressure on the QB. The defense might be a top defense at the end of the season. While Bills DC might be in his second season of calling the defensive plays it certainly looks like he has much more talent to call upon this season. It is exciting to see how the defense shapes up this season. Quote
