We’ll see if he succeeds. Elam was obviously an unfortunate whiff, but they are trying to add new looks. I like what I’m seeing. You can frame it any way you’d like. Quote

As I’ve been saying, I expect smart people to continue to get better at their job with more experience. At what point does McD take responsibility for having a scheme that apparently requires 10k hours of practice and a football PHD to learn? Injuries happen. Roster turnover happens. Other coaches simplify coach to their players strengths. Rewatching last years playoffs it’s brutal to see how many wide open guys ran through our coverage. And how we were completely predictable on 3rd down at the same time. We’ve spent so much draft capital on D and the D stunk. Do all the players really stink? I’m thinking McD needs a mirror. McDermott said this offseason he did that and changes were going to be made. He got bigger on the DL,but Jackson looked like a dumpster fire so that isnt going to plan. And Im sure the didn't expect Bishop to be Mr Glass. That said, 3rd down stoppage is still crap,so something has to give. 1 Quote

I live in Utah and watched Cole at U of U and he is an extremely willing, aggressive, and downhill tackler. Not an ounce of hesitation in the guy. Yes, and he has shown that in his time with the Bills. Also, they are not playing him at SS. Other than that, the OP was right on! Quote

Other than that, the OP was right on! I took a lot of heat when I posted my concerns about Cole on May 29. Many failed to realize I was half-joking, but also honestly concerned about Cole stepping up and being what we drafted him to be. While it is correct he is not technically playing Strong Safety for us (since we don't use that designation), that is his background and he has not looked like he has the deep coverage skills normally associated with a free safety. Unfortunately, so far he has done nothing to set aside the concerns I expressed in May. The best ability (as we all know) is availability, and right now Cole is one of our bigger risk factors. Seems like a good dude and I truly hope he shows out and has a great career. Now would be a great time to get that going! Quote
