Mississippi? Honestly, never heard that as a winter getaway, but if it’s as nice as Alabama, I get it. The Red Neck Riviera is beautiful. 1 1 Quote

The Red Neck Riviera is beautiful. We're fans of the HGTV Show Hometown. So in 2023 we went to Laurel, Mississippi where the show is filmed for a vacation. We went back this year, and the town just fits us like your favorite pair of jeans. It's just so comfortable. We met many people that have been on the show. They are all so friendly. 2 Quote

We stopped in a few small places in Alabama before and after leaving the Gulf Shores. No lie, in the one place heard a red neck say to another in a hushed tone “damn bunch of liberals”. But that was about it. 2 Quote

It has changed a lot on the last 25 years since I moved but some family I can't get to move. I lived on Hertel a couple houses down from the Garage for a few years. I absolutely loved the area. Only complaints I had was sometimes people would block part of my driveway but I could always get out but sometimes took some time with the traffic. Everything is near by. Wegmans, Tops, Dash’s, Target and a lot of other stores or restaurants. 1 Quote

Any advice from the locals is greatly appreciated. I have had the chance to live and work all over WNY; Rochester North & South, Buffalo Southtowns: East Aurora, OP and Cheektowaga, SUNY (Both campuses) and Amherst. Whwn I had to get an Security/Bond clearence - it was a SOB to remeber all the freaking addresses! Anyway, Barb & I moved to San Diego for work and the offer you cannot refuse. After 15 years, we decided to move back to WNY (Retirement). Housing and utilities are so much cheaper. We looked at properties in Amherst (Over developed), Wheatfield (way spread out) and then found a property on Grand island and built a modular home, Taxes are what rhey are but rhe quality of living is OK! Grand Island is very rural but 20 minutes betweem Tonawanda/Amherst and Niagara Falls. If you want snow - south of Broadway. Any questions - reach out! 1 Quote

I'm a lifetime Northtowner, when looking to buy a house with my wife (a lifetime Southtowner) I told he we should stick to the North because of less snow. She agreed and we're in the Tonawandas. Granted we did get 5 feet on Christmas a few years back but that's an exception not the norm. Not only do we get less snow but snow removal from the Town is considerably better than in the City or Southtowns, toss in perks with garbage pick up and street cleaning etc. I work in Cheektowaga but most days it's only a 20-25 minute commute by car crazy snow falls the only issues really to cause further delays. 1 Quote

I have to call global warming out. When we moved to SOCAL it was after a bizarre winter 2001. Since we came back (2017) the winters are nothing like those of my youth. The towns are pretty good at services plowing, garbage, and mosr important police. The City of Buffalo or Niagara Falls - not so much. It's not even Memorial Day and my lilacs are in full bloom Quote
