I wanted to buy a carport for the yard but the guy who sells them locally said the company can't give him a solid price because of the tariffs. So I'll wait. He added that the workers who install them had all been driven away, though the guys who did my siding were--I think--all immigrants.

nedboy7 Posted August 1 Posted August 1 (edited) Hours after disappointing jobs data reflected cracks in the U.S. economy, President Trump said Friday that he planned to fire the commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Erika McEntarfer, and implied on social media that she had manipulated the monthly data for political reasons. Mr. Trump offered no evidence to support his claim. He and his top aides have made a habit of attacking government agencies, researchers and watchdogs when they have produced findings that the president personally does not like. That has led to concerns that he could seek to interfere with the operations of the bureau and other statistical agencies, particularly if the economy begins to take a turn for the worse. 59 minutes ago, Doc Brown said: He must've taken Economics 101. The other option is to attack them, so I'd say the ENTIRE WORLD "tolerated Hitler" until they didn't. But really, you make it sound like you were there, or have some inside info. Have done reading, studies. What makes trump proclamations less threatening than Putin. What let's you think less about trump wanting expansionism to Canada and Greenland than Putin when he wanted Ukraine. What allows you to approve of Trump calling the leaders of a once best neighbour and friend terrible but not thinking the same way when Putin does it. The world sees your country virtually on the same level now as Putin, only less predictable. You don't recognize appeasement like Europe in 1937 happening in 2025. Making phoney investment promises is nothing more than appeasement.

The Frankish Reich Posted October 24 Posted October 24 I really can't understand how people with a strong connection to Buffalo and WNY (almost everyone here) isn't in favor of this. The impact of restraints on trade may be generally a bad thing for America, but it is definitely a really, really bad thing for Buffalo.
B-Man Posted 50 minutes ago Posted 50 minutes ago Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney Announces New Limits on Foreign Steel and Aluminum, With New 25% Tariff on Steel Derivative Components In short, Prime Minister Mark Carney is conceding defeat to President Trump and positioning the Canadian economy to be compliant with U.S-Mexico trade regulations. However, Carney is not saying that, indeed he cannot; he’s spent over a year telling Canadians that President Trump’s trade and economic demands are not going to be accepted by Canada. However, what he is factually doing is exactly what President Trump has demanded. Prime Minister Carney is saying he is restricting Steel and Aluminum imports from non-free trade agreement countries, and he is lowering the tonnage of Steel and Aluminum that will be permitted for import. His claim is that this approach will help drive up “domestic demand” for Canadian Steel and Aluminum, but that’s ancillary to the real objective. President Trump has demanded Canada stop importing cheap steel and aluminum mostly from China; including manufactured component goods that are made with steel and aluminum (think autos). Canada would not stop, because they could not stop. Their manufacturing base, green energy and climate change economy, is more of a component assembly system now. So, President Trump hit Canada with a 35% tariff, and things got ugly. In June Trump raised the tariff to 50%. The back and forth has gone on all year. Carney now announces restrictions on imported steel and aluminum, as well as restrictions on imported derivative goods that come from steel and aluminum, in combination with a spending plan to bolster the Canadian steel and aluminum manufacturing base. This ends up shifting the Canadian industrial sector to making steel and aluminum products without Chinese import dependency. https://theconservativetreehouse.com/blog/2025/11/29/interesting-development-canadian-prime-minister-mark-carney-announces-new-limits-on-foreign-steel-and-aluminum-with-new-25-tariff-on-steel-derivative-components/
