mjd1001 Posted September 2 Posted September 2 (edited) I haven't posted too much in this forum but for those who don't remember my few posts here, I'll summarize: I don't like Trump. I don't like his attitude, I don't like his lying...I don't like much about him. HOWEVER it is getting harder and harder for me to 'stick with the left' and their candidates the more I talk to people and interact with the left. Now I truly think I am a centrist on most issues. I want the 'rich' to be taxed a bit more, but don't overdo it. I want illegal immigration cut down, but I want LEGAL immigration drastically expanded. I'm perfectly fine with LGBTQ rights and people having the right to marry who they want - as it doesn't impact me directly and if it makes them happy good for them. I hate/despise the overuse of tariffs (I'm not sue if that is a left or a right issue anymore). I'm in favor of a strong military, but not using it as leverage against everyone. In any case, I really describe myself as a centrist on many/most issues. I might be slightly conservative fiscally, and slightly liberal socially. But my comment about the left. On social media, and even in direct converstations, I am finding just as much 'hatred' by the left for 'the other side' as I do on the far right. Worse yet, this is what is happening to me more and more often: I discuss with someone from the left a series of issues...lets say 4 points. I'll totally agree with them on 2 of them, somewhat agree on 1 of them, and disagree on the other. Well, because I didn't totall agree with them on everyting, I'm the enemy, I'm called names, I'm told I'm whats wrong with the country..etc. Just had an interaction with someone (not the first time this happened) where they said that maga is extreme right, and the current democrats are still to the right of center. I was told a true 'centrist' or a moderate needed to move farther to the left than even the current democrats are. Basically in a lot of words, I was told not to call myself a centrist...and that the only 'center' was to agree with far left views. Again, I'm not a fan of trump at all. But how can one be a fan of any party, any candidate on either side when it seems, more than ever, if you don't 'pledge allegiance to' or 'agree with the entire platform' of that side, you are labeled the enemy? I expected that from a large part of maga, but I'm getting it from the left more and more now. Its almost to the point where I feel like throwing my hands in the air and saying 'to h**l with all of you, both sides' Just do what you are going to do, tell me the results and I'll deal with whatever they are. And all of this can go into the Dems post election self reflection thread. Good on you for not wanting to quadruple down on the wrong side of 80/20 issues that lost the election last November for Democrats. There are videos out there of people going to campaign events last year dressed as supporters of the opposite party. Care to guess how MAGA people were treated at Kamala rallies vs how Harris supporters were treated at Trump rallies? Edited September 2 by BillsFanNC 2 1 1
