The Economy of the Draft

Everyone talks about the draft. Cheap-cost controlled players. Great places to get super-talented guys that you otherwise would not be able to fit in the salary cap.

Woah, what a coincidence, the WR market has exploded. Guys who have proven to be just PRODUCTIVE at the NFL level are getting gigantic contracts.

Man, wouldn’t it be nice to have a couple more WR’s who can be productive in this offense, step up in case of injury, and be great insurance when our WR’s start to walk in FA? Maybe guys that when the offense isn’t working, we could depend on to beat the #3 or #4 CB on the other team for a couple plays?

NAH. Let’s get more Boogie’s and Elam’s. Our QB doesn’t need any other receiving talent. We paid for a TE to run routes at the LOS and drafted another TE to run routes next to him in parallel.

I mean, who needs another player like George Pickens? Not our offense, we put up 7 through 3 quarters.

So, a guy with just about the poorest judgment on these boards is unsatisfied with our draft.

And can give no reason, just a general feeling of dissatisfaction?

Wow! This is huge ... at least in one person's mind.

it was clear we wanted trent mcduffie. we lost that opportunity and we had no backup plan. that was horseshit. and i'm not even sure we should have got James Cook. sure, i like him on the roster now but that is a high end premium for a position that is losing value faster than any other positionn.

sam laporta was worth not trading up for... the parity between he and the other two TE's was just fine. i'll take a big10 TE over most other conferences anyday in this offense.

dorian williams - that was a head scratcher. when you're labeled not big enough at 6'1" 228 then you have to wonder why? he's not THAT small... but boy he plays tiny. wasted pick.

in 2021 we chose basham over humphrey who has been rumored to be considering retirement? insanely stupid and we all knew it. draft humphrey - put him at guard until morse is done - probably this year or at least next.

the love fest in the draft for duds like basham, elam, williams, and kincaid is LAUGHABLE.

At least you waited for Monday to arrive before starting an “over reaction Monday” type of thread. Good on you.

Except he’s not wrong

The TE they drafted is supposed to contribute like a WR.  Relax and let it play out.

Which WR? The late round picks that never do anything like Shakir?
