This a Republican issue that never used to be an issue. There is absolutely zero reason the debt ceiling should be raised through reconciliation other than Republicans wanting Dems to use up one their reconciliation bills. If Republicans want only Dems to pass the debt ceiling increase, they can do that by ending the filibuster. Not a single Republican has to vote yes on increasing the debt ceiling, but the Republicans can stop Dems on voting for it.
