Robots will run the railroads soon.  First fully automated RR is now online in Australia:

You would think it would have been a normal thing already considering the fact that a train runs on a track, so it doesnt involve having to turn or navigate traffic, just accelerate and go for the ride

Shunting, switching, infrastructure I guess.  Then dispatch, central control...

The train horn should STAY!

I respectfully request that you punch yourself in the nose for me. I’ll wait........

Now, why on earth does a train need a horn? Flashing lights, the loud DING, DING, DING, the bar comes down....oh....and then there’s the giant azz billion ton train shaking the planet all around you. You need a HORN too? Time to thin the herd.

I'm sure it will be a big improvement vs the current situation where some moron nods off, sends the train flying through a curve at 80 mph, derails, kills a few people, and them blames it on his 'medication', and has the union protect him from any recourse.

Never mind the whole "Why the ***** is a guy on heart or blood pressure meds driving a train in the first place" question.

Run a train.  Drive a car.

Speaking of running.  If your vehicle ever stalls on tracks and a train is approaching.  Get (everbody) out (duh)... Don't try and push car... Not enough time even if the engineer sees you and is stopping... Takes huge distance to stop.  Even stopping vehicle may be toast.

Run TOWARDS THE train & off tracks (duh).  You run away (in direction of travel) from train... Flying debris will hit you:

Good tip, I always thought you stand on the tracks in front of the car and wave your hands above your head while wincing as the train stops millimeters from your face......LOL

Hey man... Just throwing it out there.  Stupid things people... Especially stalling on tracks.  But we are in the clutchless era.  Less chance of that!

I'm not  a train guy, but there's a pretty nice museum and train ride near my place. They have a cool rails and ales beer tour. I'm more into the ales than rails.

That's in PA, right.  Thomas the Tank Engine visits there.  Same with the one up here in Union, Illinois. LoL...

(My kid was into Thomas...LoL... Got a gold mine in wooden trains)

Yep.....Good old Thomas rolls through about twice a year. Place gets packed like the Pope is in town. There's a few places down the tracks where you can just park and watch him roll along without all the hustle and bustle. We did that a few years back. The Thomas window seems to be a short one with kids.

I would LOVE to take a scenic train trip. Unfortunately, my wife gets motion sickness, so it seems like a really bad idea. She has to chew gum and put the windows down with temps in the 40’s driving around windy, hilly parts of Atlanta. We have been on several large cruises (2-3k passengers?), but have a much smaller ship booked in the fall (about 300). I’m concerned already, but praying for the best.
