How can we as a nation allow this?

That’s pretty much overt sedition is it not?

No, it's an op-ed.  People are allowed to have opinions, even stupid ones, even published in the Times.

If the author went to Paris and had a conference with Marcon, in which he advised this in some faux-official capacity, that would be a different story.  But still not sedition.

What is it then when John Kerry has contact with Iranian officials in contradiction to official us policy?

A violation of the Logan act.

Sedition is conspiring to overthrow the US government.  That is not even close to being the same as "publishing a whiny adolescent rant in the NYT's op-ed page," or "running around Europe telling world leaders to ignore the president because he's a doody-head."

Fair enough, looks like I need to brush up on the definitions of treason and sedition

Treason is basically cooperating with an enemy of the country.

Sedition...most people would assume that working against the President's policies, or even attempting to have him impeached and driven out of office, is sedition.  It's not, because this:

is not the government.  This is:

Allow an opinion piece where they're identified as former Obama aides or not charge Kerry with violating the Logan Act?

Both. When you have people undermining the president AND his authority, especially in foreign affairs, it's detrimental to ALL of us.
