Haha yeah that song for sure I thought used to sound like the whiniest thing ever.  I think it was just the lead singers vocals.  
 

But the has a good message.. I grew to like it a little more

I remember distinctly when this band played in Buffalo live for the first time. The next day the radios were lit UP with people talking about what a SIQ band this was.

 

I have a friend that was a sound guy for rock bands in the 70s and 80s.  He worked with every big rock band, and saw shows just about every night.  I asked who the best band live he’s ever seen.  He instantly said “The Tubes”.  I was shocked.  But he described the theatrical scene.  It must of been a crazy show, because that dude has been up close and seen Stones, Sabbath, Dead, Zep etc
