HAMILTON: The Bills waste an opportunity

Paul Hamilton

The Bills blew a golden opportunity at home against Kansas City and because they’re so bad in the AFC at 2-4, the playoffs seem very far away.

Buffalo did many good things, but they pretty much handed the game to the Chiefs. If I told you that Buffalo would be leading 13-3 in the fourth and had 111 yards on the ground on 22 carries which is five yards per carry and Kyle Orton was 29 of 48 you likely would’ve told me that the Bills are now 6-3. Let’s not forget three sacks by Marcell Dareus, two by Jerry Hughes and one by Mario Williams.

Crucial mistakes in a big game just killed them.

Doug Marrone: "We've Lost an Opportunity" (5:11)

The Bills head coach talks about mistakes costing the team in the 17-13 loss to the Chiefs.

Watkins: We’ll be okay

No one in Buffalo’s locker room was in a good mood after their defeat at the hands of the Chiefs Sunday. They know their loss to another AFC opponent was costly, but the men on offense feel they failed to execute more than Kansas City’s defense stopped them.

“It was a tough one, we just didn’t finish,” said Watkins. “We’ve got to do better as a group and you can’t win like that. Turning the ball over, not making the plays we need to make in critical situations. We’re going to be okay, we’ve just got to move past this point and get ready for Miami.”

Jerry Hughes: 'We knew all week' Fred Jackson, Sammy Watkins would play

In the know: The Bills listed wide receiver Sammy Watkins (groin) and running back Fred Jackson (groin) as questionable on their injury report, and both players -- as well as coach Doug Marrone -- maintained during the week that their statuses for Sunday's game were up in the air. Defensive end Jerry Hughes, however, told a different story after the game. "We knew all week," Hughes said when asked if Watkins and Jackson would play. Neither player took part in a pregame workout on the stadium field with trainers. Watkins went through a normal warm-up routine with his fellow receivers.

Observations: Chiefs 17 - Bills 13

by Joe Buscaglia

The Buffalo Bills did it again. Everything appeared to be going their way early on in the game against the Kansas City Chiefs and was heading in the direction of the Bills claiming their first 6-3 start since the 1999 season.

Then, adversity struck. One play dropped them from the highest of highs to the lowest of lows and they weren’t able to recover for the rest of the afternoon.

Where did it all go wrong in Buffalo’s 17-13 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs? Some observations from the game:

Not again! Come on Bills!

You'd think we'd be able to handle games like this since we've had so much experience with them but they get more sickening every time the Bills find a creative way to lose a crucial contest.

For the second straight season the Bills looked like the better team while facing the Kansas City Chiefs but ended up giving the game away.

Bills' stubborn red zone issues prelude to fourth-quarter collapse

The Buffalo Bills just can't get it right in the red zone.

Since the start of last season -- a total of 25 games -- the Bills have been the NFL's worst at scoring touchdowns from inside the 20-yard line, converting on just 44.9 percent of their chances.

Never had the problem been more pronounced than it was in Sunday's 17-13 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
