using an old ninendo with my 31/2 year old nephew--just blow hard into the cartridges--across the slot--it took me a few blinking screens to remember this--but my 19 year old son clued me back in--then it works fine.

Another trick is sliding the cartridge to the left so it sits closer to the side of the NES. Though I'm shocked no one has mentioned Maniac Mansion, this game rocked. I know it's not an original NES title but still great. Another game I remember vidvidly (but never beat) was the Adventures of Bayou Billy but the hardest game I ever played was Friday the 13th which I never beat either.

Friday the 13th had the lamest ending ever...it showed Jason slouched on his ass like he was a drunk bum and it said something along the lines of Is Jason Really Dead? and then it went back to the title screen. I remember being very pissed off after lighting all the fireplaces in the cabins and finally defeating Jason.

Man, playing mario was a blast, finding warp world and getting to level 8!

I bought the integrated Nintendo controller for $20 on the street in NY and beat mario bros on about my 12th try. Of course I did get unlimited men on board 3-1 using the turtle bounce trick....

I wanted to get it working for my kids. The XBOX is a little advanced for them. I have probably about 30 NINTENDO games that I loved when I was a kid. I hooked the system up and all the TV screen does is blink. Can this be fixed? Any suggestions? I think my favorite games were Double Dribble and Contra.

I used to put the Games in water when I was a kid if blowing in them didnt work. me and my friends all did it and it worked every time.

Another thing we did was take the game cartige apart and used a pencil eraser on the contacts of the game.

Zelda.

I remember the 1st day i had it. I couldn't stop the 1st night. My parents forced me to go to bed (it was midnight and i had 11) ; i remember "how can i sleep 8 hours ??? i can't wait 8 hours to play the game, it's just impossible" :)

Kung Fu

my 1st game ; great game. After the 5th home run, it's hard.

Myke Tyson punch out.

Super Macho man was sometimes a pain, but it was ok with some concentration. I only managed to beat Myke once. I couldn't believe it i've won.

Tyson did indeed flash a bit before he would throw one of those uppercut bombs that would floor you if he nailed you with one. But this only lasted until about 1:30 of round 1. If you could survive them, you had a good chance to beat him.

It took me longer actually to beat Macho Man because I was so used to playing the actual arcade game where you had to duck to escape that twirling roundhouse punch. In MTPO all you have to do is dodge. I'm serious, it took me forever to figure that out, and only by accident.

I never played this manic mansion before, when did this game come out?

I like the sweep running play in Techmo Super Bowl where if you take Bennett, you could run down and tie up the running back before the pitch and cause a fumble. I think my best score ever was an 80-0 defeat of Miami in the first game of the season. I put Marino out first play on a sack!

Does anyone remember that lame-o Atari porn game where you as general Custer have to make your way through an arrow storm so you could rape this indian girl tied to a cactus? Had to be one of the reasons Atari died out, too many crappy games.

Maniac Mansion was awesome...however my game had a glich and I got to a point where it stopped loading at a certain point, which sucked.

I have always wanted PS2 or xbox to come out with a similar game, where you have to find things and figure out what to do with them. THe closest thing to this is in the Legend of Zelda games for the Nintendo consoles.

That's the beast....I had to use Game Genie to beat it and when I finally did I got that. I felt like that kid from A Christmas Story when he gets the decoder ring.

Pro Wrestling :) Starman was the best character to use on that one. The Amazon and his "foreign object" always made me laugh.

Thank you! I was wonderin when someone would get it right . But I must say, Ice Hockey was a thing of beauty. To this day, its my favourite game of all time, even surpassing Super Play Action Football on the SNES. I remember playing it all the time against my dad. Double Dribble was also fairly fun.

Im 20 now, growing up when video games became big on the home market. I feel so lucky :). Aggregated (with my brother) Consoles owned: Atari 2600, Commodore 64, NES, Gameboy, SNES, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, GameCube, GBA, XBOX, PS One.

My life still wont be complete until I can pick up a Saturn, and maybe a PS2 when the price drops. I can forego the Genesis, Virtual Boy, gameboy color, etc. And I highly doubt Ill buy any of the next generation consoles. I have a huge backlog of games to play, and Im enjoying the newer games less and less. Ive played enough of the same RPGs and shooters...

Oh yah, to the orginal poster, your NES has to be cleaned. It requires a bit of searching, but I remember reading about a method to clean it. Ive never tried it, but it involved you wrapping nylon (from say a stocking) around a piece of cardboard (the dimensions of which would have to be the same size as the internal chip in the NES games. I know it sounds ridiculous, but apparently it worked quite well for many people.

Or you can buy a cleaning cartridge. I also found thing link:

Marion Butts on the Chargers was another rb that always seemed to give me trouble...

Anybody remember the cut scene they had when a player would come back from an injury and it would show him running out of the hospital with all his equipment on? :D

Not as cool as them dragging your player off the field when injured. Much better than the current Madden game.
