I think something like this also happened on Chicago's drive along the waterfront a year or two ago. I don't believe anyone was hurt in that landing either. Hope he has a bunch of "renters" insurance!. He had 2 on others on board. When I was learning to fly, about the time when that airplane was new, you couldn't fly with passengers till you actually had your Private License. IIRC (it's been a few days since I read the article) FAA rcds indicate that he was a student pilot as of April '13. I cannot adequately convey how implausibly inept the aeromedical dept of the FAA is. I assume he was licensed sometime after that (possibly, shortly thereafter, again, I'd believe it could take >8 months for them to update their rcds). (Or possibly, the reporter has his facts wrong.)
