BringBackFergy Posted March 13, 2013 Share Posted March 13, 2013 Quite simply- find a group of young men, intimidate them to a certain degree by being a noncommittal, cold fish...influence their on field performance by treating them as employees rather than idols, have them commit to a system and demand perfection in executing plays (both Brady and Bill B do that)...in the end you have a group of overachievers with a talented QB. I'd also add that the system is so purposeful that anyone who enters believes in it so much that they never question it and therefore gives it their all. Those who don't are quickly shown the door. RealityCheck Posted March 14, 2013 Share Posted March 14, 2013 The first thing that seems consistent after all these years is that whenever Brady makes it through an entire season as a starter they seem to make the playoffs. The second thing is that whenever a starter would go down, his backup would come in the next week and they would feature them. Graham and Watson would miss time at TE and they would feature their no-name back up. They always goy the guys you wouldn't expect involved in the game plan and if they got open Brady would put it on them. They do it at RB year after year. The Bills of the last decade coddle the young players and don't find ways to utilize them early in situations that would mitigate their inexperience. You have to throw young players in and call their number to go make a play on the first play of the game, early and often, not down by a score late in the fourth. Spiller should have been forced into ever game to take his lumps and get it going. You can't coach as if you're scared of your own players. Take Aaron Williams last year. If he is gonna get burned playing off and soft. Get him up on the line and press. If he gets burned on that send him on a blitz to the QB. We have the corners to get after the QB and didn't even try. Having a linebacker cover them is hard because they're faster and having a db cover them is hard because of their size. Belichick wants everyone on the team to be totally and absolutely committed to winning football games. He wants guys that live, eat, dream, and breath football every minute. They missed the playoffs in 2008 without Brady. Super Bowls define QBs, which then defines the PERCEPTION of the coaches. The genius references and HOF inductions for coaches are based on perceptions of their influence on HOF QBs when they win the big game. Don't confuse the tangible result of a great QB leading his team to a Super Bowl win with vicariously anointing their respective coaches as genius's. Although they might be, it is still quite speculative and an unprovable claim. If I had a choice between Belichic and Brady I would chose Brady. But that is just me. Make sure it takes most of half time just to walk to the visitors locker room. Shut off visitors head set radios at key times. And lots of H-G-H. PTR You left out having a Capri Sun selling owner who gets portrayed by the national media as some sort of saint and has the commish for a lap dog. These factors enabled the valid points you made. To the OP.....leaving "cheating" out of a discussion of the Patriots system is like leaving gasoline out of a discussion of how a car moves. He would have 5 rings if their defenses didn't lose fourth quarter SB leads. He has played poorly in maybe one playoff game at Denver. Other than that the guy has been virtually flawless. Absolutely ridiculous. After going 9-0 with three Super Bowls, New England with Brady have gone 8-7 in the playoffs since 2005 with 0 Super Bowls. Thank you for citing the 2005 playoff loss in Denver when Brady threw 2 picks, one of which was a virtual game-ending 100-yard return by Champ Bailey that led to a touchdown and an insurmountable 17-6 Denver lead. Flawless? Please. 2006: Brady intercepted with three minutes to go in Colts territory in 38-34 game at Indianapolis. Game-ending. 2007 (Super Bowl): Brady has no answer for the NYG defense, getting sacked 5 times and fumbling the ball late in the first half close to FG range (NE loses Super Bowl by 3 points 17-14). 2009: Brady is picked off 3 times by Baltimore in a 33-14 rout. Pitiful performance at home earns the QB a 49.1 rating. 2010: Brady (2 TDs, 1 INT) is outplayed by Mark Sanchez (3 TDs) in 28-21 loss to NYJ at home. 2011 (Super Bowl): Brady is picked off at the start of the 4th quarter with a 17-15 lead changing field position drastically (New England loses Super Bowl 21-17). 2012: Brady is once again humiliated by the Ravens, getting picked off twice in the 4th quarter in a 28-13 drubbing at home.
