The Oscar race is in it's final stages, and with it comes the final month when studios release their less than stellar fare to the public. Soon the more attractive titles of the "Spring Season" will be here, as will the big budget blockbuster titles of the "Summer Season". But let's not get ahead of ourselves. February traditionally has more promising movies than January does, so there will be some excitement for moviegoers. One movie in particular continues a franchise whose first film will be celebrating it's 25th anniversary this year.

That movie is the Bruce Willis led "A Good Day to Die Hard". John McClane travels to Russia to help out his seemingly wayward son, Jack, only to discover that Jack is a CIA operative working to prevent a nuclear-weapons heist, causing the father and son to team up against underworld forces. Movie fans love Willis in this franchise, and having him take his act to another country is just to delicious for fans to pass up. Also starring Jai Courtney & Mary Elizabeth Winstead.

Jason Bateman & Melissa McCarthy star in the comedy "Identity Thief", directed by Seth Gordon. When a mild-mannered businessman learns his identity has been stolen, he hits the road in an attempt to foil the thief -- a trip that puts him in the path of a deceptively harmless-looking woman. Also starring John Cho, Amanda Peet & Jon Favreau.

In the drama/fantasy "Beautiful Creatures", Ethan longs to escape his small Southern town. He meets a mysterious new girl, Lena. Together, they uncover dark secrets about their respective families, their history and their town. The ensemble cast includes: Alden Ehrenreich, Alice Englert, Jeremy Irons, Viola Davis, Emma Thompson, Emmy Rossum & Thomas Mann.

Al Pacino, Christopher Walken & Alan Arkin star in "Stand Up Guys". A pair of aging con men try to get the old gang back together for one last hurrah before one of the guys takes his last assignment -- to kill his comrade. Also starring Juliana Margulies.

From director Steven Soderbergh comes, "Side Effects". Emily and Martin are a successful New York couple whose world unravels when a new drug prescribed by Emily's psychiatrist - intended to treat anxiety - has unexpected side effects. Starring Rooney Mara, Channing Tatum, Jude Law & Catherine Zeta-Jones.

For those who want more action, there is plenty more than this month's "Die Hard" movie.

Sylvester Stallone stars in "Bullet to the Head". After watching their respective partners die, a New Orleans hitman and a Washington D.C. detective form an alliance in order to bring down their common enemy. Also starring Christian Slater, Jason Momoa & Sung Kang.

Dwayne Johnson stars in "Snitch". A father goes undercover for the DEA in order to free his son who was imprisoned after being set up in drug deal. Also starring Susan Sarandon, Jon Bernthal & Rafi Gavron.

For those looking for romance, but not in a typical way, you will have a couple to choose from.

Lasse Hallstrom directs "Safe Haven". A young woman with a mysterious past lands in Southport, North Carolina where her bond with a widower forces her to confront the dark secret that haunts her. Starring Julianne Hough, Josh Duhamel, Cobie Smulders & David Lyons.

In "Warm Bodies", After R (a highly unusual zombie) saves Julie from an attack, the two form a relationship that sets in motion a sequence of events that might transform the entire lifeless world. Starring Nicholas Hoult, Teresa Palmer, John Malkovich & Analeigh Tipton.

Finally in the animated movie "Escape From Planet Earth", Astronaut Scorch Supernova finds himself caught in a trap when he responds to an SOS from a notoriously dangerous alien planet. Starring the voices of Brendan Fraser, Sarah Jessica Parker, Jessica Alba, Jane Lynch, Craig Robinson, William Shatner, George Lopez, Sofia Vergara & Rob Cordday.

Jumped the gun a little bit on this one, Mark? Anyway, I'll check out Die Hard at some point, most likely when it hits tv. Otherwise, it looks like I'm saving some money this month.

Oh wait, a space movie that uses Shatner's voice. Now I'm intrigued.

Yeah I did not want to wait until the last minute to post this.

I'm also putting together my Summer Movie preview, but I'm waiting for a few more trailers to be released before I do that. It's going to be another huge summer.

I'm not that interested in many of these films either. Maybe I will see Die Hard, but it's not a must see.

People should check with their local theaters. One of mine is doing a Die Hard Marathon, the first 4 movies, plus the new one, $20-$25....

http://www.regmovies...e-hard-marathon

That's a popular trend as of late.

They've had marathons for "Lord of the Rings", "Twilight", and they had the Marvel marathon prior to "The Avengers".

If I didn't have to work that evening, I'd seriously consider it. The price alone is worth it, I think the theater they are using here, the new movie by itself would be about $9-$10 for an evening show.

The new Die Hard flick looks to be worth a rental. The rest of the list looks like a pile of trash. Really, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is still being paid to be in movies? What a joke.

And we'll be seeing Dwayne Johnson at least two more times this year.

i actually like him. It's not like he's been as bad as the Mummy returns. He's actually been pretty good in the tiles that he is playing. A badass meathead special forces guy pretty much guys him well so that's why he's good in the F&F series. He will be in another one this year and what thought were pretty promising previews of a movie about steroids with Mark Walhberg. But of course, if you think The Rock is a meathead, you probably don't think much different from Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch.

Of course u was a huge wrestling fan while The Rock was in his prime so I might be a little off.
