Tim Graham: Ryan to make Maybin a captain for Bills game

Recommended Posts

Even in the context of a Bills victory, JR?

Good point. I could live with a win. :D

But if Maybin got a sack, it would still be pretty devastating to me. We wasted so much money, time, and a high draft pick to get this guy. For him to do nothing and then go over to a division rival for peanuts and go produce for them, it would be really tough to swallow.

I also think it would be tough for our coaching staff and front office to swallow. They ripped Maybin and basically sold us Bills fans on the fact that he wasn't even worth keeping to develop over guys like Eddins.

Do I want him to even smell Fitz tomorrow nope!......but I think its funny how a few of us really believed maybe could play at this level....and we were blasted on this forum because we supported Maybin, and although no one said that he wasn't talented no said he didn't work hard...his biggest knock was his weight.... once again the kid is a talent, that maybe didnt fit our system of revolving coaches and defensive coor. Maybe if we had rallyed behind the guy instead of comparing him to other players who knows....we could have 3 more sack and 3 more forced fumbles ...... but if he does get a sack tomorrow and celebrate I might smile just a little....

I would have the opposite reaction.

I just posted this in a different thread, but if Maybin got a sack, I wouldn't celebrate--I might cry.

From Chris Brown's Blog... Maybin is not a stud player in this league. This is why, from a guy who is around the team every single day. You can think what you'd like but those of us with football sense realize that while Maybin does have three sacks and three forced fumbles, they are not because he did anything great to make it happen.

2 - Hi chris

The Bills considered Aaron Maybin a bust after two years, however he has been a productive player for the Jets this season. How and why did the Bills staff so seriously misjudge this player??

CB: I think it’s difficult for you to say the Bills misjudged Maybin. You fault the Bills for cutting him loose after two years, but you’ve decided he’s a playmaker after a few games? What has happened is Maybin is a pass rush specialist. He comes in on passing downs only and usually pursues from the back side. With other more respect pass rushing talent on the field with him (Calvin Pace) along with a strong inside linebacking duo, less attention is paid to Maybin allowing him to run plays down from behind.

Personally I don’t think he’ll ever be more than a specialty player because he lacks football instincts. If he’s asked to read run-pass he struggles. In coverage he’s a liability. He tries hard and he hustles, but I still don’t think he’ll amount to much.

Oh get ready! You are not going to get any love here. I predict he gets shut down Sunday. He isn't talented! He was a waste of a pick and would have been a waste had we picked him in the 7th round. Have you seen him play since we drafted him? Unreal! :flirt:

This response by Chris Brown is dead on in regards to Maybin. His pass rushing skills are not leading to sacks, it's his hustle in not giving up on a play that has--- in obvious passing situations and usually late in games. He's still getting pushed wide by the LT on every play or pancaked. The Jets are devastated by injuries on the outside and desperate for an OLB-- if not for that he'd still be in street clothes.

I don't hate the guy, but he's no better today than he was in training camp. For a guy that claims to be team first and unselfish it does still grate at me a bit that he held out his entire rookie training camp (which arguably stunted his pro development) and seemingly spent more time promoting himself through rap videos than developing football technique and learning how to properly maintain the mass on his frame.
