Thinking ahead: Maybe not a good idea to draft QB this year

So we draft Newton or Gabbert with the #3 pick, and sit him the 1st year as they adjust to the NFL.

Our 1st round pick now provides no impact for 2011. We probably blow the 2nd round pick again, and we're likely looking at the top draft pick in 2012. And there awaits Andrew Luck who we could not pass on as our QB of the future and who would likely start day one.

What then of Newton or Gabbert? They would turn into yet another #1 draft pick with less than 1st round impact.

Just thinking out loud here...... :)

So we should draft defense, improve some, and have no QBs next year. Fitz is a FA, an we don't have a QB worth a dam. Best thing we can do is resign Fitz and hes our qb going forward. Maybe we can draft a different qb in the 1st (Barkley, Eh, or jones), but we may not even have a shot at them. If they like a qb in this draft, draft him and don't look back.

The #1 QB last year is not going to be near the #1 pick this year, so to assume one player is better than another next year is not a lock.

Thank you.

See Brian Brohm, if you want an example. He was the man as a Junior. As a senior, not so much. Stuff happens.

Which, btw, says pretty loudly that Luck is a fool for not coming out this year. There's almost no way that works out for him. Both sides in the labor dispute think rookies are getting too much money.

I totally agree !! Spend this year on Defense blow it out & with at least our first 3 picks in the draft go D maybe a good TE in later rounds & other picks as Nix & gailey see fit to finish up this year.

Then when next year comes around mortgage the farm & go up & get Luck , do what ever it takes if everyone is saying this kid is the best in a long time JUST DO IT !!

By then with the high picks on D & a better record to go with it , add in the hiring of Wanny , Luck will see that the Bills are serious about being a winner & setting the team up for the future & would be more apt to come to Big B knowing & seeing what is going on .

Go after a good back up possibly this year but i don't know that any of the QB's are first rd material .

If the difference between $70 and $40 million were the only thing that was important to him, you'd be right. It's not, so you're wrong.

Luck went back because he's enjoying college. Nothing wrong with that. He's not going to come out of this year making $15 K.

Possibly the best, ready-to-play-right-now Qb in the draft is Ryan Mallet. Would anybody here recommend taking him third overall? If you say No, then you have to question why you'd take Newton at that spot. After all, not only is Newton not ready to play from day one, he, too has some serious character questions.

Anybody the Bills draft is probably going to suck anyway. I'd rather they waste the pick on a possible high-reward position like QB than wasting it on other positions.

If you could only buy one lottery ticket, you'd buy PowerBall not a lottery where the top prize is $500.
