Ok....let me ask this.....if Luck declares

Recommended Posts

It would be worth it to trade away absolutely everything. Give Carolina any 5 of our players, and all of our draft picks this year.

Having an elite-level QB is worth any price. Ask the Colts and Patriots how easy it is to make the playoff with theirs, despite having marginal supporting casts year in and year out.

That's an interesting concept (and one that I'm sure will have more than a few supporters on TSW) - let's trade Evans, Parrish, Nelson, Wood, Bell, and all of our draft picks.

We won't have an o-line or anyone to throw to - but hey, we'll have that ' elite-level QB '

(Of course, he'll be anything BUT elite laying on his back, with no receivers, as he's carted off the field on a stretcher.)

Yea but our team blows.... so a potential manning-esque player is not as important as some potential defensive starters

Things have changed a little over the last few days, and will change again, and again if Luck opts to stay in school - which I doubt, all things considered (his coach probably leaving, the upcoming rookie salary cap, Locker's situation, etc.). But, Blaine Gabbert has entered the 2011 draft. Still, Luck is the concensus top QB, but with Gabbert, Newton, and Locker, not to mention the Ponder and Kaepernick and other 2nd tier QB's, this QB crop might go down as one of the best in the last few decades. Between Manning Jr., Rivers, and Roethlisberger, I don't think San Diego or Pittsburg would want to trade for each other's QB - which, I hope, could equate to the same type situation with a Luck and a Gabbert - two QB's, one much like Payton Manning, one like Phillip Rivers - each good enough to build a franchise around. Now it's not as if the Bills have to go for broke for Luck if they want a true franchise QB prospect. And, that isn't even considering whether or not most of the NFL considers Cam Newton a top 10 prospect, either - not to mention Mallet and Locker.

All of a sudden, with Bowers, Fairley, Peterson, Von Miller, Luck, Gabbert, Mallet - there will be choices for Buffalo Without Having To Move Up!!! And, we could even move down a few spots, pick up extra 2nd and 3rd, maybe, if a team a few spots below us want to be sure to get, say, Peterson or Bowers or Fairley - and we have our sights on a guy that should be there a few picks later.

Of course, now if we do go other than QB with our 1st round pick, there is even better chance we'll see one of the fringe players there in the second round - which makes our losing the last two games of the season a Huge difference - because if a guy like Locker or Mallet falls out of the first round, there will be a huge difference between being 3rd in the second round and, say, 7th or 8th.

This draft looks to be one of the best for a Bills fan in years.

Whatever you say chief. Then at least answer the original poster's question. What do you give up for him if you're Nix? How would you determine a fair trade price?

If it doesn't apply to someone so highly regarded like Luck, then to whom does the system apply? And how do teams determine the cut-off, i.e. When do they say this guy should be valuated at that pick but that guy shouldn't be?

It doesn't apply, but it seems to make you feel more comfortable if it does. The situation and philosophies of the teams holding the number pick differ from team to team and year to year. Some people need a blankey and the idea that thing can be fit into a 'chart' to feel safe at night.

I'd give up this year's first and a second with a mid round pick as well. Are you happy I answered the question, "Chief"?

I he does declare (he won't), I'd give up nothing - I'd be happy if Carolina takes him at #1, so we can grab Mallett.

That reminds me of how happy the Bengals were when the Eagles picked McNabb in '99 so they could grab Akili Smith

If Luck stays in school he will likely lose 25-30 million dollars in guaranteed money (that is just my prediction based on the fact there will be a salary cap on rookies after this year. The amount the top few picks will receive should be drastically reduced, as well they should be). Last year, Bradford signed for about 78 million with 50 mil guaranteed. And Luck is light years ahead of Bradford as a prospect.

A few years ago, it cost The Giants the fourth overall, the fourth pick of the 3rd round, plus the next year's #1 to get the #1 overall (Eli Manning) who wasn't nearly the prospect Luck is. So the earlier poster saying we would need to give up our #1, our #2, and next year's #1 is probably pretty close.

As said by almost everyone else. Our 1st and 3rd this year and a 1st next year. I would even throw in another late round pick if necessary.

I get that we have other needs, I do. But I firmly believe that this is a great year for FA's on the defense. My only concern would be the Right Tackle position. But, isn't Gaither and the guy from San Diego FA's this offseason?
