bbb
Doesn't it seem that he should get more of a chance to prove his innocence? They fire him less than 24 hours after he got arrested. Maybe a school can't afford to wait for evidence when recruiting is involved?: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=5978467
KD in CA
Maybe a school can't afford to wait for evidence when recruiting is involved?: Yup. Plus, your employer is not the legal system. They aren't obligated to 'wait for the truth'. His arrest alone has damanged the university and thus they are smart to cut him immediately. The Senator
Well, yeah - you already know he would have bought season tickets to the Pirates! I never thought of that! San Jose Bills Fan
Pittsburgh athletic director Steve Pederson praised Haywood's character when he was hired last month, calling his values "in line with the values of this great university…most importantly, Michael is a man of character and integrity and will be an inspirational leader for our football team." Captain Caveman
He abused his girlfriend. Mike Leach only abused players, right? Ok, maybe not. But what evidence exactly would you expect to come out in Heywood's favor? From an earlier ESPN article: The unidentified woman told police that Haywood grabbed her by the arm and neck and pushed her as she tried to leave. Redman said the woman had marks on her neck, arms and back. bbb
But what evidence exactly would you expect to come out in Heywood's favor? I don't know. I'm sure nobody ever falsely accused a boyfriend or ex-boyfriend of this before.

Would you want your kid to go to a school where the supposed "leader and mentor" beats up on his woman? Good job by Pitt firing the bum.
Malazan
It seems like a complex situation and I'm sure it will be covered to death and then we'll probably be lucky enough that somebody sues somebody so we'll get stories about week to week. But considering the police arrested him after finding marks on her arms, back and neck, I'm not sure what further evidence would exonerate him. Miyagi-Do Karate
He abused his girlfriend. Mike Leach only abused players, right? Ok, maybe not. But what evidence exactly would you expect to come out in Heywood's favor? Heywood could use the oldest defense in the book-- she had it coming. Or, better yet, he sometimes gets mad like that because he loves her too much. Seriously, Pitt made the right move. You have to cut ties asap. sleaky72
I am usually hesitant to pass judgement on domestic issues because I have been on the wrong side of the Psycho female issue before. Some chicks are beyond psycho and who really knows the story. Nevertheless, the dude should have known better. Being in a high profile position, especially since you were just hired, he should have gone to extreme lengths to avoid this crap and unfortunately he did not. Good luck to him.
