What is our biggest need?

  1. 1. What is our biggest need?

    • Offensive Tackle
    • Defensive Pass Rusher
    • Defensive Line help...likely stout DE
    • LB...inside non-pass rusher specialist
    • WR...(IDK...I guess I'll put it here for the crazies)

So what do you guys think is our biggest need. I've left off QB, obviously...that IS our biggest need but it's sort of obvious and difficult to come by so let's focus on these other choices. To me...it's a close call we need all of these things desperately...as bad as I think we need OT help...I think we need a pass rusher the most. We were terrible today. We have nobody that can beat a single team consistently. We HAVE to take a pass rusher next year in the draft IMO...simply have to...

Thoughts?

Yup. And OLB isn't even on the list.

My assumption was Defensive Pass Rusher = OLB.

Since QB isn't on the list, T/OLB are the next two real positions of need. Of those two I would like the O-line sured up first for whatever solution we have for the QB position. After that I see needs at Tight End and on the D-Line.

Sadly, I think the Edwards-era has come to an abrupt end. I say sadly, because I was really hoping that Trent would be the one when he was drafted and would help get us on the right track again. Now with rumors swirling about him being shopped around as trade-bait, it's unfortunate that another one bites the dust.

Clearly, Fitz is not the answer. He's more capable, but not an answer. We'll be drafting one #1 next year, I think.

LT is very important. But I think our defense at this point has an excellent secondary, but average players everywhere else. We can never get consistent pressure on any team. A dominating pass-rusher would go along way towards helping our defense get off of the field on 3rd downs. Getting the ball back to the offense. Creating pressure which creates bad decisions which leads to turnovers.

Besides QB, a dominating DE is sorely needed.

Today, everything appeared serviceable with the exception of the pass rush.

Dwan Edwards is terrific but Stroud is leaving a lot to be desired at DE. Kyle Williams may not have beastly size but he's playing like one and had a great game.

The O-line was not the biggest problem but they could certainly use an upgrade at RT. I think Demetrius Bell may actually pan out and Cordero Howard has filled in pretty admirably at the G and T positions in spots.

Stevie Johnson, Evans, and Parrish all got open (behind an admittedly poor Pats' secondary) and played well.

All of these positions can be improved and none are 100% set, but by far the weakest link is the pass rush. A lot of the coverage breakdowns and weaknesses in the middle of the fieldat the LB position will disappear with some consistent pressure on the QB.

I voted for offensive tackle. Cornell Green looked better today than he had in the past because the Patriots' defense isn't as good as Green Bay's or Miami's. This year he is the weakest link on the OL, and next year he'll be another year older and worse. We need to get that taken care of if we don't want our QB killed.

Perhaps our RTwasn't obviously terrible today because Urbick got a lot of reps. Saw him out there early and often. Levtre, Wood, Bell and posiibly Urbick can & likely will make the OL a force to be reckoned with for many years, IMO. We really can't say just yet about the D front 7, given the newness of the scheme, new players and players changing positions.

To win consistently in the NFL, a eam MUST havegood Quarterbacking. No single position can cover weaknesses elsewhere like a solid field General. We were better than NE everywhere BUT for Brady, who single-handedly outscored us.

Believe me, you're preaching to the choir about the need for good quarterbacking. I would have voted for QB in a heartbeat if it had been an option. (That said, I think the OP's logic in taking QB off the table made sense; so as to allow the discussion to focus on the team's second-most critical need.

I feel RT is our second-most critical need after QB. Unless of course Urbick can become a good RT. What do you think the chances are of that happening? I'm not asking that in a sarcastic way: I'm genuinely curious.
