Add in the fact that the trade was with Carolina, who will probably finish middle of the pack and it will probably be a top 50 pick next year. You would think a team with this many holes would want more picks. The only think we ever do is overpay to trade up. They keep trading all of their high picks for a lot of late round picks and most of the people they take do not even make the team. Meanwhile their roster continues to get older. I would not be surprised if they trade out of the first again next year. Look at how KC has done in the draft since Pioli left the Pats. Makes you wonder if he was the one behind the talent they obtained over the years through the draft and bellicheck was just the one who studied game "film". They knew the could not re-sign Seymour for the money he wanted, so they bite the bullet and traded him. It hurt them this year but they are slowly rebuilding with younger players. The loss of Gaffney hurt them more than Seymour, Galloway was a real bomb. Both Watson and Graham were there for 5 and 6 seasons. They were good players but not worth elite money to re-sign them. Grahams signing by Denver is one of the nails in Shannies coffin at 7 million a season for what turned out to be a very good blocking tight end with inconsistent pass catching. To me his leaving cost NE the super bowl in 2006. His blocking was sorely missed in that game. Watson just never became a consistent player. Outstanding one game and non-existant the next 2.
