There go the Patriots

The Patriots just turned the 91st pick into a 2nd rounder next year, which will be another strong draft. Add in the fact that the trade was with Carolina, who will probably finish middle of the pack and it will probably be a top 50 pick next year. The Patriots now have 2 #1's and 2 #2's, as i predicted they would by days end.

Great move by them.

Is there a reason why the Bills can never work the draft? Do we even listen to any offers? You would think a team with this many holes would want more picks. The only think we ever do is overpay to trade up. NE with Oaklands first next year plus their own plus Carolinas 2nd and their own---friggin scary.

And why did the Pats get a compensatory pick? B*llshit. NFL favors big market teams esp. the cheating Patriots.

Same reason the Commish destroys evidence of their cheating and the refs seem to bend over backwards to give them games.....

and they will probably turn that pick into a first the following year

it only matters if they start to actually use these picks and make the right selections which lately they havent

they took yet another TE high in the draft that will probably disappoint and leave in a few years just as Graham and Watson did

I think a key part is when the phone rings, they answer it and listen.

or the fact that they feel like they can afford to pass up using a pick this year and turn it into a higher pick next year...the Bills dont have that luxury

people keep talking about the Bills needing to trade down and get more picks like thats the answer to everything...maybe they like the guys where they were picking and dont want to risk losing out on them by trading down

the Bills never trade down yet you guys continue to expect them to....how often did Polian trade down? how did that work out

TD used to like to make a lot of trades and be the talk of the draft...how did that work out

although todays picks were not flashy they will obviously help the team in an area that has been sorely lacking for a number of years

Donohoe wasnt big on trading down....Overpaying to trade up...yes. Losman anyone. The Bills draft history over the last 10 years speaks for itself.

Does it really matter?

Their drafting strategy has been very poor as of late. They keep trading all of their high picks for a lot of late round picks and most of the people they take do not even make the team. Meanwhile their roster continues to get older.

I would not be surprised if they trade out of the first again next year.

Look at how KC has done in the draft since Pioli left the Pats. Makes you wonder if he was the one behind the talent they obtained over the years through the draft and bellicheck was just the one who studied game "film".

You'd think that with the Patriots window closing that Belichick would stop deferring all these picks to the following year to reload for another SB run.

So much hand wringing about the patriots' pick trades. They're really in your head, man.

Oh NOOOO...the patriots didn't take a player, they took a higher SLOT! OMG!

They had too many picks to sign just makes sense to trade for next year. They knew the could not re-sign Seymour for the money he wanted, so they bite the bullet and traded him. It hurt them this year but they are slowly rebuilding with younger players. The loss of Gaffney hurt them more than Seymour, Galloway was a real bomb. Both Watson and Graham were there for 5 and 6 seasons. They were good players but not worth elite money to re-sign them. Grahams signing by Denver is one of the nails in Shannies coffin at 7 million a season for what turned out to be a very good blocking tight end with inconsistent pass catching. To me his leaving cost NE the super bowl in 2006. His blocking was sorely missed in that game. Watson just never became a consistent player. Outstanding one game and non-existant the next 2.
