  1. Guys, there is no way Shanahan is going to San Fran. They don't want a strong coach over there who will clash with the front office because after the Harbaugh thing everyone should realize the Baalke is top dog there. Buffalo or Oakland is exactly the situation that Shanahan is probably looking for: somewhere with a rudderless FO and a weakened GM where he can come in and run the show. Like Carroll in SEA or Kelly in PHI. Plus, Pegula wants to make a splash here and really change the league's view of the Bills IMO. Shanahan would do that. We are meeting with so many candidates as much to get the word out about us as we are interviewing. If it's true that we offered the job to Cowher then I would think that Shanahan is our top choice. OAK - Sparano ATL - McDaniels CHI - Quinn NYJ - Marrone SF - Gase BUF - Shanahan
  2. I remember when Hue Jackson said he wanted to "build a bully" with the Raiders. His attitude would mesh well with Schwartz.
  3. I thought that this stance on Manuel could hinder us in our search for a HC, but I think if the Pegula's make a long term guaranteed commitment to the next coach it allows them to work with Manuel for a year, and make the call on him at the end of next season when you are back in the first round of the draft. Offer Gase or Hamilton a 5 year deal worth top 12 - 15 HC money and you won't have a problem hiring them.
  4. For one, it is the biggest splash he can make. Also, it makes the most sense as far as winning now. Kyle Shanahan has been an OC for 6 years and he did not get promoted to that position by his father. And Mike has had numerous top 10 offenses with not just john elway as his QB. He knows QBs and was able to win with Jake Plummer, Cutler, Steve Beurline, Brian Griese. His problem has always been building a defense, which is already in place here.
  5. Also, the coaches want to take the interview. Pep Hamilton has said he will wait til Colts are eliminated to talk to other teams even though NFL rules say it's fine.
  6. Bills also have entire defensive staff in place and mostly under contract. Good possibility we will not be turning over ENTIRE coaching staff like in years past.
  7. I would think unless they are blown away, a DC other than Schwartz is unlikely. If Schwartz has a convincing plan on offense and has a line on a great offensive staff, then he is likely the favorite. Otherwise, it makes most sense to hire an offensive mind with Schwartz as AHC\DC. If there is an offensive guy out there who wants to completely revamp the defense, I would question their decision making and I think it would be a clear red flag against them.
  8. Guarantee you they are interviewing !@#$ing Charlie Weis.
  9. Lawrence is home to Kansas Jawhawks
  10. They haven't shown they do. BUT They haven't shown that they are bumbling owners yet either. What happens next will go a long way towards swaying the public's view of them with regards to actually running the team.
  11. This interview was about Russ Brandon, not Marrone. I remember because I thought it was totally !@#$ed that Brandon was so involved in the draft process. The Watkins trade has so many Brandon fingerprints on it.
  12. It was very noticeable that he was NOT there.
  13. He is my favorite of the up and coming young coaches.
  14. The whole OL situation was really !@#$ed from all sides IMO. The players brought in were terrible. And Marrone's decisions were questionable.
  15. That's because Doug Whaley will not be the GM of this team for very long into the future and the new coach will not be tied to him in any way.
  16. Roseman has a law degree from Fordham and rose to his position through being a salary cap guy and through football administration. It would be like if Jim Overdorf became GM as far as career path is concerned. Whaley and Gamble are talent evaluators. The only difference between the two is Whaley is called the GM here and Gamble had a different title in Philly. They are redundant as far as what they do.
  17. The days of the autonomous GM are closing. A lot more common to have a CEO type in the role of head of an organization with a GM running the personnel department. Pete Carroll is Vice President of Seahawks. Belichek is basically VP of football ops in NE.
  18. Whaley has not shown anything in regards to his ability to be the ultimate decision maker at the top of a football department. In fact, the three biggest moves the Bills have made with him in charge don't look like great decisions (Doug Marrone, EJ Manuel and the overall QB situation, and the Watkins trade). Now maybe his role in these decisions was minimal, in which case you can make the argument that he simply does not have enough experience to run an NFL team. There is a big difference between running the personnel department and running the whole show.
  19. They do exactly the same thing so no. Eagles were rumored to like EJ that year.
  20. No. Tim Graham has been pretty accurate.
  21. Chip Kelly is exactly the kind of coach that Pegula wants IMO. Someone with enough clout and stature to command that position and can handle being the top dog in football operations. Then he can bring in personnel people to run scouting department. It would negate the need for a football czar because the HC would be credible enough to run the show. This is how Seattle and New England are structured. Its why Harbaugh is not in SF anymore. He can't give the keys to just any coach he hires though. Kelly would be perfect fit here.
  22. If anything is clear here, it's that Whaley is far from being "the boss."
  23. They have moved slowly and indecisively on everything since they've owned the Sabres
  24. If there is one overriding constant of Pegula's ownership over both the Bills and the Sabres it is that there is no masterplan. Proactive and decisive are two things that are needed now with the Bills and sadly these are not traits he exhibited in any capacity with the Sabres. The Sabres are doing the right thing 2 years too late. They waited 2 years to pull the trigger on rebuilding. He also kept Regier through the off-season of 2013 and then fired him two months into the season. An off-season in which he offered Thomas Vanek nearly $9 mil/year over 8 years and attempted to resign Ryan Miller. Why would you keep your GM through an incredibly important off-season (and let him trade your best asset) only to fire him months later? Answer: Because you are clueless and lack any vision whatsoever. I'm happy the Pegula's own the team but without any strong football men in the organization (and we have known), this team is destined to continue to be a middling joke of franchise.
