  1. I think the d-line is going to platoon a lot, so guys like Stroud, Williams, Edwards, Carrington, Troupe, and S Johnson will probably all play significant snaps. I also think McKelvin is the nickle back this year and Youboty will be the primary CB backup on the outside. I think the LBs are going to be switched around a lot as well.
  2. What's so amazing about the GM hailing the 7th round QB a developmental prospect? How do you figure that Levitre is playing LT, when Gailey and Nix have both said up to this point that he's staying at LG?
  3. I like the optimism - I thought you'd never come back they didn't take a QB high this year. You have a fine avatar, sir.
  4. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em. Or maybe: When in Rome... Can't decide which expression best fits that scenario...
  5. In my eyes this is the best part of the new FO - talk is no longer cheap from the FO. No more of this, we're going to tell you one thing and then get too scared (or realize it wasn't well-thoughtout enough to do) and do another. These guys are at least making an earnest effort to make the team better and are sticking to their philosophy. It reeks of conviction.
  6. I agree with the sentiment about Edwards not getting a fair shake last year and that he deserves a shot to win the starting job this year if he can put it back together. What I don't get is how you can say that Edwards deserves abnother chance, but loser-turds like Whitner are going to be on their way out and seemingly don't deserve another chance. I think it's pretty obvious that Whitner has played a lot longer, better, and more consistantly than Edwards during his time here (while also being a clear-cut starter as opposed to being in the mix forr a starting job). Without using the words "draft", "round", or "reach", what makes you think that Whitner is done and Edwards still has potential?
  7. That's a decent draft, but I wonder if they might go defense again in the 2nd.
  8. 1: Jim Clausen - Bills 2: Tim Tebow - Philly 3: Eric Berry - Cleveland 4: CJ Spiller - Seattle 5: Dez Bryant - Jacksonville
  9. Will Crompton really make it to the 5th round? I've seen reports that he's the second best QB prospect this year behind Bradford. Is he any good?
  10. If that's the case, I'd hope he'd have a real good idea how to use him this season effectively while also grooming him for the starting job. That's a hell of a gamble for the new FO as a first pick. It might be boom or bust as far as their credibility as FO is concerned.
  11. I'd agree with four, but that would be including the first rounder. I think the expectation should be - especially with all the holes and new alignments - that the first and seconders both start/contribute heavily and then two of the later round picks (between 3 and 7) also start/contribute this season. Because of the positions of need being the more important positions however, I could see these numbers decreasing solely because they don't want to start a rookie QB or LT from day one. I definitely see a NT, OLB, and OG or RT as potential starting positions for this year's rookie class. LT I think depends more on which player you draft, as I'm sure we'd all like to them play all year, they may be more of a developmental project in year one if it isn't one of the top two or three guys. I have a hard time seeing a rookie QB coming in here and starting. Not that I think the current QBs are that great, it just seems like Gailey won't rush someone in there until they can play and be successful and that Nix is probably on board with this strategy as well. If nothing else, the Cornell green signing shows that they would rather have a cheap, serviceable veteran as a stop-gap option as opposed to some rookie or second year-unproven player being the only option. It shows that they are trying to groom players that they draft into players that will play big roles for the team in the future. Last coaching staff seemed to be in more of a win now mode.
  12. I like the idea of drafting Iupati. It would really help to solidify our offensive line whether we get an OT or not later on. I guess the only problem I might have with it is if they pass up a chance to draft an elite pass rusher to take anyone else. Those are players we need now and are hard to get. If Morgan is that guy, you have to take him when you get the chance. Same would go if they thought another player was the best pass rusher.
  13. I agree with this thinking 100%. Something about top 10 picks makes me feel like we should be able to get the best player at a semi-premier position. You don't get better by taking the 4th OT in the draft in the top 10 unless all four of them look like instant all-stars. I have said before that I think they will target Morgan (only saying his name because I think he's the best pass rusher, but you can insert whomever you that way about here) unless Okung is still there (QB being the wild card, as they may take one of the top 2 if they're there). The other OTs look like RTs or projects to me (or both) and if we're going to take that type of player, it should be reserved for at least the 2nd round and later. I want a player that they can use in the first round. Even if Morgan for example might need a year to be a starter, but can still play a role (i.e. rush specialist). I'd really like any player that they felt they integrate into the system on either side of the ball early on in 2010.
  14. I think you're overreacting. The QB spot is going to be an open competition - they've been saying that for a while. He obviously just dodged that question about Marshawn because he didn't want to say what was really on his mind about it (which was probably something too obscene to mention even here). They probably will draft a QB was well - they have been saying they'll add another one too. Free Agency was actually pretty productive considering who was available and what we got. Also, it's not over, not to mention the draft. We'll get 9 more bodies in here - hopefully 3 or 4 seriously talented ones - to plug some holes. They still need to fill some holes, but I expect them to fill them for the most part. Just a little Patience.
  15. I wonder what is says about the team's drafting that two of those players were UFDAs.
  16. I've been to Amsterdam and they do not have a quality problem - everything is top notch.
  17. Good job being the first to post this Nostradamus. It doesn't sound like you have a draft philosophy past throwing out popular names. Have you been watching college football all year scouting these guys? I don't know much more than what the people in the media have said about any of these guys and am guessing you know about the same. How do you know Bulaga isn't going to be a bust and we'll all be pissed that we'd didn't take the next Chris Johnson in CJ Spiller? It sounds like you read a mock draft somewhere you didn't like or someone's post here and decided to setup an account to be smarter than everyone else. That's poor form. I kind of hope they do draft a non-lineman at 9 now just so you can eat your liver. To be honest, I think we should get some linemen in the draft this year as well, but I don't think I really want a potential LT (probably the 3rd rated guy) who might end up as a RT with the 9th pick. I'd rather have a difference maker. If that's a defensive or offensive linemen, then all the better. If not, we'll probably get some later in the draft. In fact we'll probably get more than one no matter what. I'd be fine with a pass rusher though.
  18. I don't think fix is the proper term to use. I think the hope is that Gailey can cover up his flaws and boost his confidence to allow him to do what he does well. If they ran the ball consistently, added some playmakers (figured out how to use Parish, if it can be done and maybe draft a "water-bug" type player) Trent would be fine. He's probably not going to be throwing bombs all day, so Gailey will have to find a way to allow him to make quick reads on short to mid range throws and let the receivers make plays after the catch. Lee can do it. Roscoe should be able to do it (though admittedly hasn't yet). Nelson should be able to do it. And add one more player from the draft at the RB position (see water-big player from above) and that has potential. Obviously the key is for Gailey to make it work, but I thin that might "fix" Trent.
  19. I wouldn't mind seeing Morgan. Even if they think of him as a potential OLB or DE in the 3-4. He could probably add weight to play DE and drop a little to play OLB, so it might work out either way. I also like the idea of Iupati, but not at #9. If we traded down and took him, it could mean that we have the interior of the OL solidified for a long time with Wood at center. This would also go witht he smash mouth style of football Gailey purportedly likes to play.
  20. I think it's wide open as far as who the pick could be. If they think those players are more RT than LT I think it would first depend on whether they thought either had a chance to be an LT and how much of a chance they gave them to be LTs. I'd have to think that if they were both thought to be solely or most probably RTs, you have to go in a different direction and take an LT prospect later in the draft - a player you thought was going to develop into an LT. It's easier to stomach a 3rd rounder or even second rounder ending up at RT than a 1st rounder.
  21. I was a JP fan during that time. It was weird how he seemed to have "it" in a few games and look completely lost in others. I remember that Jacksonville game we came back to win where he lead a great drive for the tying FG in the last minute of the game. He actually had a few games where he didn't play great, but was able to make things happen when it counted to bring us back or almost there. Those games for other QBs seem to propel them to the next level and some consistency, but somehow JP never made it past just showing flashes. Watching Edwards over the last few years though, has left me with somewhat of the same impression. He had some games where he just looked like he got it, but was never able to take the next step. This is what makes me wonder if it was the fault of the coaching/etc. It also partly explains my curiosity of seeing what Edwards can do under Gailey as I feel like it will give me some closure on the question of coaching vs player. If Edwards starts and is back to form of the first 6 games of 08, then I think someone, somewhere should get JP out of the unemployment benefits line/grocery store outfit/UFL and give him another shot at playing in the NFL.
