  1. I think you picked two terrible examples for this argument. Edwards failed two physicals and had an offer withdrawn from his original team, so the only team that offerred him a contract was the Bills. Davis, while he was considered a good player in Denver last year and probably would have made other visits, only made one - to the Bills. I do think we have trouble attracting the top tier FAs, but not for the reasons most people say. It's simply because we aren't that good. Football players have enough money to live anywhere they want in the offseason and after they play. They can also take ridiculous vacations that none of us could afford. The ones that care about playing football and winning don't care about where they do it as long as they have that shot. The real reason that no one wants to come here is that we are not that good. Plain and simple. No one cares about the weather, nightlife, etc unless they are more interested in doing that stuff than playing and winning football games. The only other aspect that might come into to play is if they are very interested in a spotlight being placed on them and even that is debatable. Look at TO - he made out fine with his spotlight here and made it work in other places while he wasn't required to be in Buffalo.
  2. I think you're right and wrong on that one. I agree that we need a big NT in the middle for obvious running downs, but I think Williams would be an unbelievable asset on passing downs from the NT position (or as a DT out of the 4-2 nickel alignment). He's worth more to us on passing downs than anything we could get om the late 2nd early 3rd round of the draft.
  3. I can't remember whether it was one or two years ago that RW famously asked DJ, Modrak, Brandon, et al at the owners meetings if they would finally be able to stop the run. Obviously they couldn't the past two years. Is this FO configuration finally getting serious about stopping the run? Assuming the Edwards signing is true, with the addition of Davis, and the plethora of SS are they going to be able to do it? Obviously an NT would help out a lot, but I think K Williams can hold down that job as long as we can get another NT prospect/player to play part time at least at first. So are they going to be able to do it this year and will it be the key to at least finishing in the top half of the league in defense this year?
  4. I like this site for discussion, but BuffaloRumblings is very insightful.
  5. Calling posters on a Bills board pathetic in your first post - you suck.
  6. So can we use the bat phone to get JW's confirmation at this late hour?
  7. The big one that comes to mind is A Thomas to NE. McCalster too possibly, but he might have retired. Other than that, they usually re-sign their own players.
  8. I think they'll put an emphasis on drafting a guy to rush the passer somewhere in the first 3 or 4 rounds. I wouldn't be shocked to see them take one in the 1st or 2nd if the value was there. He's going to stay on the roster. We need depth and I don't buy that the new regime is comfortable with Ellison being first off the bench as ILB. Mitchell has value and has played ILB in the 3-4 before.
  9. I think Davis will platoon with Poz and Mitchell at ILB, making that a sudden position of strength. I think they'll add an OLB in the draft.
  10. Only if it also included a pick in this year's draft as well.
  11. I have to agree HST. By the way - just finished Hells Angels: great book.
  12. John time to call call him out on it if it's not true. Let's get to the bottom of this. I demand instant clarification on the matter otherwise I may not be able to sleep tonight. Seriously though, thanks for your time on the board - it's nice of you to take time out to give us your thoughts. EDIT: Looks like you're off the hook. I was hoping for a "Tweet-down", if you had an account.
  13. If this is right and I have my doubts because of the conflicting reports, it is absolutely a great move and reeks of savvy on the part of the FO. These guys are the perfect type of players to get when in rebuilding mode. Guys who have experience, want to have a leadership role, and will most likely be OK with platooning at their positions instead of out-right starting. They will help to create and foster the new culture. I'm starting to wonder (not that I'm advocating it) if they might try to focus on "playmaker" type players more than people think in the draft. In SD, they seemed to go that route in the draft in earlier rounds. Definitely down-grades some need areas from terrifying to solvable.
  14. Good research - hate it when posters drop totally incorrect information with no backup. sarcasm I hope...
  15. With him being an attractive FA and already meeting with two teams without getting a contract, I'll bet he's looking for a premium contract from anyone. That being said, I've liked the idea of this guy on our team ever since we announced the switch to the 3-4. He'd be good in a rotation with Stroud and Johnson at DE (I'd assume he would be the 1st and 2nd down starter). It would go a long way towards tightening up the run D, that's for sure.
  16. I think Poz is too small and not a good enough blitzer to play OLB in the 3-4 on a consistant basis. I do think that he would be perfect as an ILB in this defense though. Especially if Tim Graham and Drayton Florence are right about the type if defense we're running next year: http://espn.go.com/blog/afceast/post/_/id/...-d-after-sabans I think you hit on it there. Picking a OLB at #9 does not constitute giving up on Maybin - it means they want a crazy pass rush which would be a good thing in my opinion. Having a wide variety of pass rush options at OLB allows them to potentially play 3 at a time if they wish to further confuse the offense as well as have quality depth at an important position.
  17. I think they might move him around in the front 7 since he is a pretty good blitzer from the LB position. They could go with a 3 ILB, 3 safety look in running situations.
  18. I would be happy with this draft. I think there is a bigger probability that we take an OLB in the first two rounds than people think.
  19. We can only hope Gailey has more sense than the last group of jokers.
  20. There's no way Levitre plays tackle for us. Not a chance.
  21. That's exactly why it's not a good idea to make this trade. I'm all for getting better immediately, but you can't discount the possibility that they still cannot make the playoffs with McNabb and are less able to better the team because of the picks they gave up. What about the Bears? They got Cutler and found out last year they have serious flaws. How are they going to get better? They were basically forced to spend a lot in FA on Peppers who may or may not show up and a ridiculous amount on a blocking TE that is basically a glorified 2nd string tackle. If Peppers doesn't pan out, they will be a terrible team for a while unless Cutler really turns around from last season.
  22. I heard they were using JP Losman's arm and Kelly Holcomb's quick decision making.
