  1. speaking of our first loss... i just went and looked at the schedule again and man, i know we gotta lose sooner or later, but i dont see a "should lose" game on there, maybe @ Denver. thats it.

I'm with ya on the optimistic side, Dr., but here's a more "curbed enthusiasm" way to look at it:

If the Bills beat St. Louis, they can go 6-6 the rest of the way, finish 10-6, and most likely still make the playoffs.

  2. In the 1st half, the speed edge rush was getting to Trent a lot. He was JP-ish (Or RJ-ish if you prefer)out there looking to run, escaping the pocket a lot, and taking ever deeper drops.

In the second, he consistently stepped up in the pocket and let the rush go past him. Not sure if he did that himself or (more likely), the coaches told him to step up more. Credit the Raiders: they beat him up today, but more credit to Trent: he stepped up and threw despite the pressure.

That was the biggest adjustment. The Raiders D was more than I expected. Their offense was crap. Even with the 80 yarder, they mustered only 250 yards.

I think it was Peters that made the adjustment to the speed rush of Burgess--he finally started to play for the speed rush and ride him out wide. Burgess was the only Raider getting consistent pressure--once he was neutralized, things got a little easier.

Maybe Burgess just flat tired himself out by speed-rushing on every passing play.

  3. Well, the Rams stink but hopefully the Bills learned today that you can't afford to come out flat against anybody in the NFL.

It was a lesson that obviously needed to be learned--glad it could be taught in a W instead of a loss.

As for the Rams, their defense (especially the DB's) is nowhere near as good as the defenses the Bills have faced thus far.

Get off to a good start, and the Rams will quit-- as evidenced by today's performance vs. Seattle.

  4. The Bills seem to have a pretty big following in the CFL area. It always puts a smile on my face when I see a Bills plate or bumper sticker.

Hey, maybe you've seen my Bills plate proudly displayed on the front of my car.

I agree with you, I see a lot of other Bills plates, bumper stickers, etc. around here as well.

  5. The Rams' problems are not with the QB. It starts with the sorry state of the offensive line, which Martz seems to believe is not required for a successful team and the current administration has not been able to fix.

Don't kid yourself, if Warner had stayed with the Rams he'd probably be out of the league now after taking one too many hits. They did him a favor by letting him go.

At the end of his tenure with the Rams, he was having major fumbling problems, wasn't he?

I believe he had some concussion issues as well.

Maybe the few years of relative inactivity allowed him to heal up and clear out the cobwebs a little.

Having Boldin and Fitzgerald certainly helps, as well.

  6. We brought in Langston as a free agent from the raiders.....who's fans think he absolutely stinks.

Time to get ya some Langston.......if you can do it against Kerney....then you can do it against Burgess

That was my first thought about the Raider game after the Jags game on Sunday.

Last week was for Big Marcus, this week is for Big Langston!!

    GO BILLS!!!

  7. Maybe if enough Bills fans show up, the locals might be able to avoid a blackout and watch the game on TV...

I'm not going to the game, unfortunately, but thankfully it won't be blacked out:

Can you believe Jags home games are blacked out all the way down here in Orlando? Obviously I normally don't care, but the last two Bills/Jags games have been blacked out.(The only two games ive missed seeing in over 10 years)

  8. One of the factors leading to the slow starts of the Bills in recent years has been the difficulty of their schedule(among other things, of course). This year that is certainly not the case.

Obviously, Jacksonville is not going to be an easy game, but its not out of the realm of possibility that the Bills can win that game.

The next three games are games where the Bills should have the advantage:

Oakland, probably the worst team in the NFL this year.

St. Louis, probably in the bottom five of worst teams in the NFL this year.

Arizona, a decent team that looked rather unimpressive vs. a sorry 49ers team.

These games are by no means locks, but if the Bills want to compete in a now wide open AFC East, they have to assert themselves in these games before the bye.

Dare I ask what are the odds we could see the Bills at 5-0 at the bye? 4-1? Or a more conservative 3-2?

  9. For the past tow years and going into this year the thing people complained about most with DJ was the fact they didn't think he could have a dynamic offense. They said he played games not to lose. Well this first game either showed a difference in philosophy or that DJ for two years took the blame for an inept OC. These guys were fun to watch. I think this shows how good of a coach DJ is. I realize this is one game. I realize we could go 1-15, but I don't think we will. I think TS was a awesome choice for OC. I loved the way he called the game. If PF doesn't watch out he is going to be a Head Coach candidate. DJ has put the right coaches around him. He is getting the talent he needs to win and I think we are going to be seeing DJ for a while around here. He is a good coach. Better than what some of us give him credit for.

I was pleased to see the offense remain somewhat aggressive even with the lead. Its important that the coach shows confidence in the abilities of his players. Obviously, with the way things were going last year, its understandable that DJ wanted to play it close to the vest. We should see the agressiveness of the offense and the defense as a sign that DJ and the coaching staff are finally comfortable with the talent assembled to execute a broader gameplan.

Lets hope that the Bills can come down here to the Florida heat next week and put a hurtin' on the Jags!

    GO BILLS!!!

  10. I thought it was great to see the "creep" defense from last year come out a few times, when all the d-lineman were standing up. It seemed to confuse the hell out of the Seahawks.

I loved it when Hasselbeck audibled out of a play, then at the last second, the Bills changed their defensive set which caused Hasselbeck to call a timeout. When your team is winning even the little "chess matches" during the game, you know its going to be their day.
