The problem with letting Jackson and Brown go is that Shady was injured at the time and isn't healthy now. So the Bills will have to go into a game with Dixon as the primary backup and that's not a good thing. That's a chunk of the carries going to a guy I want to see get 1 or 2 carries a game. And if anything happens to Williams, ouch, I don't even want to think about where the running game will be. Not sure why the Bills didn't keep a 4th back when their starter was injured.

I'm of two minds about this. One, garbage time numbers aren't really that important when the games are essentially wrapped up. My second though is that this D gets complacent. They're not playing prevent D. They're also not sitting their starters with these leads. So the only conclusion I can draw is that they lack motivation and drive to play to the end of the game. That's mental weakness and isn't something you want to see out of your players (with or without a lead.) If the D isn't going to play to the end then get those starters off the field because guys not playing all out are going to get hurt.

As of right now they haven't gotten a single game right.

I hope the Bills can keep Percy Harvin

It is, but it's a good problem. -
Jets vs. Fins, 10/4 - Who to root for?

Bills already have at least a split with the Phins so I'll go with them. -

He has impressed but if forced to choose between Harvin and Incognito I'd go with the latter. I'm not sure the Bills have the cash to sign everybody -particularly if Tyrod keeps playing the way he is. He'll get paid if he does and then the Bills will have some tough decisions to make at a lot of other positions. -
Have your eyes seen Dalton play this year? The guy has played lights out thus far. Any my point wasn't to create a debate about who is better, you said they have a "major flaw" and I asked what that flaw is because if they have that flaw then so do the Bills. The question both teams have is, "can their QB play at a consistently high level." I guess you don't think that's a question with the Bills and we should book our flight to the AFC championship game but most think it's a question that TT will have to answer week in and week out. The season is long and there is only so much you can gather after 3 weeks. So far it looks promising, let's see if it continues.

Cincy might have the best 52 man roster in the NFL. The only "flaw" they have is at QB but Dalton has shown he can get the ball to his playmakers. Cincy is no more "flawed" than Buffalo. I'm impressed with TT so far but I'm not ready to say the Bills are set at QB for the future. Things can go down hill quickly.

Barbarian, I think you owe us this.

Well, if we're going to go just by stats then yeah. Those stats gave him a QB rating of 92.8 which ranked 14th in a 32 team league. That's barely better than middle of the pack and middle of the pack is the definition of mediocre. If we're not going to go by stats but on other things as well - like winning, come from behind wins, drives in the 4th quarter that help negate his poor play from earlier in the game - it pushes him further down that list behind guys like Flacco and E. Manning. I'd take guys like Dalton and Cam over him as well. Dalton is almost a wash but I'd still take him. Mediocre seems to be a perfect word to describe Tanny. As starters go he's neither good nor bad. He's right there in the middle. Not sure why there's a debate about this. Half the teams would like to have a middle of the pack guy. -
Williams definitely looks like the better runner right now but he's not a better fit for the offense. The Bills, in their base package, have created so many mismatches by the types of players they've acquired. Who do you send out on the field to defend them when you have Watkins, Harvin, Shady and Clay out there? If there is a second TE on the field the Bills can still line up in a spread offense with Shady and/or Clay out wide because of how diverse their skill sets are. Or they can line up in a traditional two TE set and pound the rock. It almost forces the team to go with their base set on D which means Clay and Shady are matched up with LBs in coverage. If the D goes to the nickel it gives the Bills the advantage in the run game. It's why a dynamic TE is so important and why a RB with the speed/hands of McCoy creates mismatches. Those two guys make Roman's job much easier because of what they can do. So while I love what Williams is brining to the table he can't replace Shady in the matchups he gives the Bills. It would just help if he were healthy.

A Few Thoughts About The Game, in no particular order.....
MDH replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, but that's not what happened on that play. He played hard till the end but tripped over the WR when the ball was under thrown. I'm not sure how that equates to giving up on the play. I agree it wasn't a good play and I smacked my forehead with my palm at how badly he finished the play, but it wasn't because he stopped playing hard. He just f'd up. -
Nope, but why not recognize the actual leaders instead of being a "he worked hard" award? Make a seperate "he worked hard " award if need be but making people honorary captains reeks of pee wee football.

Leadership isnt something that changes week to week. Can't say Im a fan of this method.

Man, that was a really bad throw then!

All-22 Bills vs. Pats * (defense) -- Jeremy White
MDH replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I get not jamming Gronk. He's so strong and fluid he can burn you if you try to bump him off the line. The small WRs on the Pats? I have no clue why they weren't getting mugged within 5 yards of the LoS every single time. -
Pretty sure this story hasnt been written before as every previous story mentions he went to Harvard. So this is like a completely new story.
-
Their D is very good and their schedule is about as cupcake as an NFL schedule gets.
-
The Colts were in the AFC championship and they beat them in Indy. That's a good win even if the Colts are currently struggling.
-
People are acting like TT didn't have something to do with all those Pats points. 3 TOs and a bunch of 3 and outs early in the game contributed greatly to the points scored against. I'm not absolving the defense (or the ST) but to think that they absolutely would have needed 40+ points yesterday no matter who started is disingenuous. Protect the ball better and don't go 3 and out so often and you'll need fewer points.
-
So we're back to blaming poor QB play on "play calling." Look, I get it, we want Taylor to be good. Yesterday, he wasn't. He wasn't even close to being good for the majority of the game. The Bills got into a huge hole yesterday primarily because of three things: Horrible discipline on ST, a D that gave up play after play in the passing game and poor QB play. TT was indecisive and looked confused for much of the day. He held the ball to long. He was inaccurate on many of his passes. But, he's young and I'd stick with him for the foreseeable future because everybody has clunkers, particularly against Belichick. Hopefully TT will learn from his mistakes but to defend his play yesterday is the definition of being a homer. One can think he played poorly and still think he can turn into a good QB. These things aren't mutually exclusive.

They did the same thing vs. the Colts and I saw nobody complaining then. Rex disguises his coverages so nobody knows who is rushing. This is what he does and it's one of the major reasons as to why he's been so successful for a decade+. He's not the first guy to do it either, it's why Dick Labeau was so successful as well (though their D schemes aren't the same.) You will continue to see Hughes and some DL in coverage on occasion. The problem with yesterday is that Brady wasn't confused. He identified the coverages right away and picked it apart. Luck, on the other hand, was rattled by it, couldn't break it down quickly enough and tossed a lot of errant passes as a result. My main problem with the D yesterday wasn't that DL were dropping into coverage but that Ryan didn't make many adjustments when what he was doing wasn't working. He tried rushing 4 or 5 and got picked apart. To start the 2nd half they should have started brining the house on occasion, S blitzes, CB blitzes, anything to mix it up. Maybe that wouldn't have worked either but at least it had a chance. -
Will the refs let us win this game?
MDH replied to Estelle Getty's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That was the only bad one that they gave us a replay of. Horrible call. -
There were also WRs running wide open down the seam pretty much every time. I don't even mind the WRs catching balls in the flats but what I don't understand is how they're not wrapped up and tackled immediately (like our WRs are when they catch such passes.) Somehow they allow the WR to run 10+ yards with the ball most of the time.

Beautiful throw. -
He hasn't been good. Even with time he's indecisive. He's young and hopefully gets better but to suggest he's not a problem today is putting your head in the sand.
