What more due diligence would they need beyond the SEC giving him a clean bill of health?

Airbus 310 Crashes With 154 Aboard!
Steely Dan replied to Steely Dan's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Link At first, Comoros officials said there were no signs of survivors among the dead bodies floating in the choppy waters. But then rescuers found the young child. Cox said it reminded him of the 1987 crash of Northwest Flight 255 in Detroit, Michigan in which only a 4-year-old girl survived, while 156 others died. "This has come up before and it's where the toddler was seated (during the impact) that allowed them to survive," he said. I wonder what happened to that four year old girl? -
I'm still pissed about light pollution. I remember being at a friend's house who lives deep in the country away from most of the light pollution and the sky is about a quarter of what that picture shows. It's an incredible sight. Lying on your back you can see so much more and it's really, really cool.

Is Goodell doing a good job.
Steely Dan replied to Jeffery Lester's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The point is the union is taking up for the players. Yes, the issue is a banned substance but still it is the union that is initiating the fight. A federal judge denied on Friday a request by the NFL Players Association. Here's a better example then; EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -- The NFL Players Association filed a grievance on Tuesday challenging the suspension and fine given to Plaxico Burress by the New York Giants after the receiver accidentally shot himself in a nightclub more than a week ago. The union said that the team violated the collective bargaining agreement last week when it placed Burress on the reserve-non football injury list, suspended him for the final four games of the regular season and fined him an additional week's salary for conduct detrimental to the team. Placing Burress on the non-football injury list also will keep him out of the playoffs. The Giants (11-2) won the NFC East title on Sunday. Union spokesman Carl Francis said the grievance will be heard by an arbitrator after the season ends. ______________________________________________________________ The union filed another grievance on Burress' behalf earlier this year after the Giants suspended him for a game and fined him two weeks pay for missing a team meeting in September. The two sides eventually agreed to cut the fine in half, saving Burress about one game's pay -- more than $200,000. Does everybody get it now? -

Ledger said instructing couples with infertility problems to have more sex could stress their relationship. "This may add even more anxiety and do more harm than good," he said. He said couples shouldn't feel pressured to adjust their sex lives just for the sake of having a baby. Greening said the study's findings were ultimately very intuitive. "If you want to have a baby, our advice is to do it often." Link :worthy: -

Should athletes speak out on issues?
Steely Dan replied to Rush23's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes, I think anyone is allowed to speak on the issues they care about. Those in the public eye are allowed to make issues known. Should their opinion be respected more than anyone else's? No, but it can be listened to if you want to listen to it. It's amazing how celebrities can use their fame to acquire public office. i.e. Sonny Bono, Gopher, Arnold, Al Franken, Sarah Palin, Ronald Reagan, Fred Thompson... I believe part of it is that actors are, well actors and, for the most part, telegenic people win office in our society. Linky So, who are the next celebrity politicians? Russell Simmons seems to be angling for city or statewide office in New York. Barbara Streisand has spent thousands on politics and could be a candidate for all manner of public office. Robert Redford has been mentioned as a possible Senate candidate in Utah for years. Alec Baldwin has always had an eye on a congressional or Senate seat in New York, though his acrimonious split with ex-wife Kim Basinger might make things messy. Bulworth star Warren Beatty, the architect of the Hollywood-Washington Democratic fundraising link, weighed in on a third-party run in the 2000 election, but ultimately decided against it: Could he still have a future in Washington? SAG President Melissa Gilbert, who made many hearts flutter with her revealing dress at the Golden Globes this year, would be a fetching candidate for the Senate one day. The regal Candace Bergen, who is no stranger to making donations to Democratic women candidates, would be a wonderful match for the Senate as well. Or how about Michael Douglas, who played an American president in The American President? How about the brainy Jeff Goldblum for Congress? Or even Hollywood's Everyman, Tom Hanks, as a Republican senator? Or Sylvester Stallone? The possibilities are endless, the tabloids are at the ready, and we, the public, are on the edge of our seats. Celebrity politicians are here to stay. Oops! I almost forgot Adam West is Mayor of Quahog. -

What he said! What he said too! When I was student teaching the kids had to take their report cards home and have the parents sign it. The parents could leave comments on the report card. More than a few came back with the comment; "Why aren't you making sure jr.'s getting his homework done?" You go girl!!! -
Hopefully they can get it out but the damn thing has lasted over 20 times what they thought it would. Not a bad run for the thing if it's stuck for good.

The courts are a different appeals process from the commissioner!! The union is fighting the suspensions! The NFLPA and the Williamses had argued in separate lawsuits that NFL officials knew a weight-loss supplement called StarCaps contained the banned diuretic bumetanide back in 2006, even though it wasn't listed on the label, and that the league should have notified players and federal regulators. Why can't you admit you were wrong! There are other outlets for appeals other than the commissioner! -
Finally, somebody understands the difference between hemp and marijuana.

Link "Each of our customers will be personally informed of this recall by phone," the wholesaler said. A spokesman would not identify those customers to CNN. "That's ridiculous!" said Sarah Klein, a staff attorney for the Washington-based Center for Science in the Public Interest. "JBS should be able to say who they sold meat to, and those companies should be able to say, 'These are the products we created from them.' " She expressed concern that nearly seven months into the Obama administration, a key undersecretary position at the USDA has not been filled, which may be slowing the government's ability to respond to such health threats. Don't Miss * Likely fallout from cookie-dough illnesses: Layoffs "That person in that position would have significant public health experience and understand how these processes work, how meat enters the chain of commerce," Klein said. ____________________________________________________________ The USDA urged any customers with concerns to contact the store where they bought the meat. ____________________________________________________________ Symptoms of infection with E. coli bacteria can include severe or bloody diarrhea, vomiting and severe abdominal cramping. Nestle Cookie Dough A spokeswoman for Nestle said the company's baking division was informed Monday of the finding. She said the tainted product was in a 16.5-ounce package that had a day code of 9041 and a "best before 10 JUN 2009" on the package. June 10th? A little late isn't it?

You're assuming he'll be able to walk out the plane and know who anybody is. -
That I agree with but 46% had never been brought up before. If you invest because you believe the 46% number then you are greedy. Greedy and excessively stupid. My point still is a lot of people were unaware of where their money was being invested and so innocent people were harmed.

If it wasn't for all of the light pollution here that's how the earths night sky would look.

Link Most of the 143 passengers aboard the Airbus A310 were Comoran, an official at Sanaa's international airport said. The aircraft also carried a crew of 11, for a total of 154 people on board. There has been no indication of foul play behind the crash, the officials said. The crash is the second involving an Airbus jet in a month. On June 1, an Air France Airbus A330 crashed off Brazil while en route from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to Paris, France. All 228 aboard are presumed dead. The cause remains under investigation. I don't know if I'll board an Airbus anytime soon.
