  2. DirecTV?
  3. It's been a couple of years since I've been there, but I seem to recall a lunch for two costing around $30, and that was without an appetizer. That just seemed a little high for me. Maybe I'm mis-remembering, or maybe they charge more here, not sure... I just heard something the other day that said they won't open an In-N-Out restaurant anywhere unless a family member runs it. I've never had one, but I've heard good things. One of the founders died a week or two ago.
  4. A young man was on holiday in Kenya after graduating from college. While he was walking through the bush, he came across a young bull elephant standing with one leg raised in the air. The elephant seemed distressed so the man approached it very carefully. He got down on one knee and inspected the elephant's foot. There was a large thorn deeply embedded in the bottom of the foot. As carefully and as gently as he could he worked the thorn out with his hunting knife, after which the elephant gingerly put down its foot. The elephant turned to face the man and with a rather stern look on its face, stared at him. For a good ten minutes the man stood frozen -- thinking of nothing else but being trampled. Eventually the elephant trumpeted loudly, turned and walked away. The man never forgot that elephant or the events of that day. Twenty years later the man was walking through the zoo with his teenaged son. As they approached the elephant enclosure, one of the creaturesturned and walked over to where they were standing at the rail. The large bull elephant stared at him and lifted it's front foot off the ground, then put it down. The elephant did that several times, all the while staring at the man. The man couldn't help wondering if this was the same elephant. After a while it trumpeted loudly; then it continued to stare at him. The man summoned up his courage, climbed over the railing and made his way into the enclosure. He walked right up to the elephant and stared back in wonder. Suddenly the elephant trumpeted again, wrapped its trunk around one of the man's legs and swung him wildly back and forth along the railing, killing him. Probably wasn't the same elephant.
  5. No, but that's because I was -2 ... My father-in-law was actually at that game though, and has the commemoritive coin as well. Ironic, considering he's a Packers fan who lives in Green Bay.
  6. They didn't have a choice, he wanted Andre Reed money.
  7. The Melting Pot is a fondue restaurant. We have one in downtown Minneapolis, and it's supposed to be pretty good. I've never been there though. Cheesecake Factor is good as well, but I think it's overpriced. CW
  8. I think I got drawn in beacuse Minnesota is a HUGE hockey town -- the colletga games alone can sell out the Xcel Energy Center (18,000+). They treat hockey like Buffalo treats football. People in Minnesota are big into the outdoors - there's tons of fishing, hiking, camping, hunting, etc. A vast majority of people have cabins up north in the "wild" -- boundary waters of Canada, woods up north, etc. So Wild is a way of life here and actually fits pretty well. You think most of the country thinks the "Bills" are a good name?

  10. Slightly offtopic, but I'm a big Minnesota Wild fan, since they were formed while I was living here. I still love the Sabres, and root for them when the two play, but the Wild are my 1b team - I'd equate them to brother/sister rather than cousin, for me.
  11. And a sprained ankle...
  12. http://www.cfl.ca/index.php?module=page&id=9#H When I watched the game in the late 80s/early 90s (Go Eskimos!), they always pronounced it "Rogue." Is that a canadian thing? Doesn't make sense calling it "rouge," since that means "red." Red point? Rogue point, stealing a point from a field goal, seems to make more sense. Crazy CFL.
  13. It's called a "rogue point." If you attempt a fieldgoal and miss, but it goes out of the endzone, you get a point. Buffalo would've tied SB XXV if we had that rule... Of course, the goal posts aren't at the back of the endzone in the CFL.
  14. Not supposed to shred for 7 years... If you want to shred, you should scan 'em all in first. Good luck.
  15. It's an HD channel. Channel 74 on DirecTV, not sure about cable. They show some Battlestar Gallactica in HD as well (but never first run ).
  16. Firefly fans -- you'll be able to see the show in HD next month! http://www.tvweek.com/page.cms?pageId=212 Unfortunatley, since the show is on Fox, we probably won't see HD-DVDs for awhile (if ever). They might put it on Blu-Ray, but then it'll probably end up looking worse than SD-DVD And for those on the fence, the Firefly boxset is STILL ranked #11th in sales at Amazon today, and Serenity (the followup movie - available on HD-DVD and looks SPECTACULAR in that format) is #35 today. CW
  17. Sure glad our offseason "improvements" are showing dividends... Oh look, and an INT for a TD. *sigh* It's just preseason, right?
  18. Radio broadcast - get a new PC that actually has sound on it.
  19. IIn addition, you can watch snippits if you have NFL Network - their "No Huddle" show is on tongiht, which will bounce between all of the games currently being played. CW
  20. Not sure, I've always known it but don't know where I learned it from.... CW
  21. That's one of the channels DirecTV puts HD stuff on when the channel doesn't always broadcast HD. For example, the Sabres playoff games on OLN were all on that channel as well. CW
  22. Actually, you can't blame DirecTV for preseason games - their contract is only for regular season games. The reality of the situation is that, since most preseason games are produced locally, they don't have the money/equipment/expertise/desire to be able to broadcast it across the country or on the net. What they do now is to record the game and give the tapes to NFL Network to be able to broadcast during the week. CW

  24. Since Reilly wrote that the kid could "barely swing a bat", I question everything that's in the article (if the kid couldn't play at all, would he even want to be on the team, let alone would he have made it to a championship game with his team?) And to answer your previous question about intentional walks -- I havn't seen any myself (but then again, I've never watched a little league game, nor did I play). However, I have some PMs saying that they HAVE seen intentional walks at that level -- but the person doesn't want to get drawn into the fight so is keeping his mouth shut. So I decided to do some searches to see about intentional walks. Here's some things I found: http://www.decatursports.com/drills/base/johns.htm ". And finally, we decided to intentionally walk the batter to set up a force play." http://experts.about.com/q/Baseball-Instru...tional-walk.htm "Intentional walks are one of the tools that a manager uses to try and prevent the other team from scoring runs.....Unless your coach is intentionally walking Jack in practice, you need not worry about his development. He is in a 9-10 division, after all." http://www.josephfkelly.com/right_back_whe...d_walk_spo.html "And I call the catcher over to the dugout to explain how he needs to position himself for an intentional walk." (NOTE: I'm not sure how old these players were, but it's little league). So as you can see, it DOES happen in Little League. Maybe not in your area, but across the country it does. CW
  25. You mean there has to be a loser? Just make sure you don't pick on the weak kids on the other team, that wouldn't be fair to their self esteem and you'll be branded a jerk. (check out the baseball thread in the OT forums if you have no idea what I'm talking about ). Seriously though, have a great time - take lots of pictures and make sure your kid enjoys the experience - that sounds like an AWESOME time! CW
