  1. Wow, a whole 150 games?! Well obviously everyone in the thread must bow down before your immense knowledge of all things baseball. Except you havn't seen a game in Utah... You probably havn't seen a PONY league game (maybe something similar, but not that league - see Utah comment above). And frankly, 150 games is hardly anything. Assume a 10 team league with a 10 game season -- that's 50 games per season, so you've seen the equivalent of a whopping three seasons of ONE league. Of course there are THOUSANDS of leagues across the country, so just because you havn't seen an intentional walk doesn't mean they don't happen. Would you feel differently if I told you that I've seen intentional walks with kids that age? Or doesn't that count, because I havn't seen 150 games like you have? Not trying to be rude (ok, maybe a little...), but coming off saying, "I've seen 150 games, so obviously I know everything about little league baseball and the coach is obviously a jackass" just makes no sense whatsoever. And you never did answer my question about at what age kids should start caring about winning. I'm really curious, since obviously having a playoff format for a league doesn't mean they should care about winning according to you. CW
  2. But he didn't treat the cancer kid differently -- the coach probably would've walked Jordan no matter WHO was on deck -- since Jordan was the team's best player and you only needed one out to win the game. If the on-deck player was the fourth best player, I bet the same thing happens but never gets reported.
  3. ebay.com would be another option...
  4. Did you check overstock.com and buy.com? They sell music too, not sure if they have what you're looking for though...
  5. http://www.amazon.com
  6. Yeah editorials are slanted, but this one seems overly so IMHO. You shouldn't lie to make your point, editorial or not.
  7. I asked my wife if she heard anything about it when she got home from work last night (~10:30pm) and she hadn't because she'd been working all day. Not everyone reads the internet or listens to (non-XM...) radio. (although I was rather surprised that none of her co-workers were talking about it either... But oh well).
  8. You know, this article is SOO slanted, it's not even funny. Look at this quote: "So, you're the coach: Do you intentionally walk the star hitter so you can face the kid who can barely swing? " What the hell is the kid doing playing BASEBALL if he can barely swing a bat? I'm sure that quote isn't even remotely true, it's just another peice of sensationalist journalism. The only way the *team* makes it to the championship game is if either the cancer kid is halfway decent (obviously nowhere near as good as the slugger), or if every team up until that point threw the games to make him feel better. No way the kid plays baseball and can "barely swing." CW
  9. I was starting to think I was the only one on this side of the fence.
  10. It must be fun living in a world where everyday is a Disney movie. Also, I'm curious what the age cutoff is in Disneyland. Do we start playing when they're 10? 12? 16? 37? When do you go from being a kid who shouldn't care about winning to a kid who should care about winning?
  11. The kid must not have been that bad if his team made the championship game.
  12. The link is not YouTube, it's Google Video...
  13. Maybe some will say I'm cold and heartless, but I don't have a problem with what the coaches did. As the coach said, he played by the rules. The author tries to slant it like the coaches are bad guys and that the game is supposed to be about the kids. Well, what about the kids on the winning team? Is it fair to them to pitch to the strongest player on the opposing team and lose the game? No. Sorry, but real life isn't like a movie. This line sums it up perfectly: "I'm going to work on my batting," he told his dad. "Then maybe someday I'll be the one they walk." Bring others up to a higher level, don't bring everyone down to a lower level.
  14. That's going to open up some sticky situations I think. Are the airlines going to start taking on more responsibility for checked luggage? The baggage handlers are going to know that the chances of some good bounty in luggage is much higher now. How easy would it be to open the suitcase and grab what you want - especially since most people can't/don't lock their suitcases anymore! CW
  15. I'd fly and wouldn't worry about it. Why would tomorrow be any safer than today? The airports will be a zoo, but that'll probably be around for awhile now. Bring a good book (but apparantly not an mp3 player - unless that's only in London?) and try to relax as much as possible. CW
  16. I thought Denial was the river in Egypt where the scarabs came from? Ok, that was bad...
  17. Well if that's all we'd lose, maybe it's worth it... BTW - full motion Peter Pan is SCARY! CW
  18. Not a bad idea, as well as the config. Sanitizing the logs first might be a good idea if you're worried about the info getting out. Or, you can PM/email them or give non-root access to the server to look at 'em. I'm open to any of those options. CW
  19. I'm hardly a sendmail guru (or postfix, for that matter), but what is the maillog saying about these messages?
  20. AJ loved it. I thought it was pretty good, although a bit slow in spots. Definately worth watching though, especially if you like Bruce Campbell. CW
  21. Even if you're not a Star Wars fan at all, these guys are HILARIOUS and will put on an awesome show.

  23. http://www.cnn.com/2006/SHOWBIZ/08/08/star...d.ap/index.html My wife and I went and saw them perform two shows when we were in England - they're HILARIOUS. If someone from England could record that, I would LOVE to see it... CW
  24. Cindy, I wouldn't worry about it at all. You don't even know that he really got the address from the paper; could just as easily gotten it from a phone book and made up the paper story. I realize it must've been pretty creepy, but nothing to get worried about and no need to start a campaign to not publish information in the paper. CW
