You should get a GMail account - over 2G of storage, it rocks. If you need an invite, let me know. CW

You're just trying to get brownie points from SDS

It was -14F (-40 windchill) yesterday... It's warmed up to -4F right now. Yuck.

I think Irvin was extremely overrated. He only had more than 50 catches 8 times. Reed only had less than 50 catches three times -- once in Washington, once during the year he was injured, and once during his rookie year (he had 48 in his rookie year). His first three seasons he had 78 receptions TOTAL (Reed had 158 in his first three yeras). Reed finished with over 200 more receptions than Irvin. Reed also had over 500 yards rushing (Irvin had 6...) No way was Irvin better than Reed. CW

Yeah, but I was pretty good at that one; I can't get past level three in this one

I can't believe that coke-head Irvin gets in before Monk and Reed. What the hell is up with that.

Would you buy a former rental car?
Fezmid replied to Buford T. Justice's topic in Off the Wall Archives
A bit off-topic, but if the manual says to do it every 10,000 miles, why would you be tripling your oil change expense? My manual says to go 7,500 miles and some people at my last job thought that was crazy and they also do it every 3,000 miles. I don't get it -- usually manufacturers are VERY conservative with esimtates (meaning you could probably go 15,000 miles without an oil change on your car). Why change it so frequently? I have a '99 Camry with almost 100,000 miles and havn't had any problems with it yet *knock on wood* CW -
Somebody must've watched Punch Drunk Love.

I don't know about that... My company apparently had that a few years back, and a lot of people liked it. What one person finds useless, another may like. (I agree with you in that I wouldn't personally use it though).
-
I'm not sure if I'd like that or not; sometimes I like to take what my wife calls "mental health days," days where you wake up and just think "I need to recharge my batteries." I only take a few a year, but I don't know how I'd feel about doing that if I had unlimited days. I guess that's good for the company in way... One perk I forgot to mention about my company (along these lines) is that we get 8 sick days a year, all allocated on January 1st. All of the hours you don't use by December 31st get put into a short-term disability account for you. This time gets applied to help offset the loss while on disability (ie: I get 66% of my salary if I have to go on short-term disability. If I have hours banked, they pull from that to pay the other 34% of my salary while on disability). That's a unique one I hadn't seen before, and even though I don't plan on using it (I have 5 days banked in that account), it could come in handy at some point. CW

My previous company had a nice 401(k) plan. They matched 100% of the first 4% you contribute (ie: contribute 4%, get 4% matched). In addition, they give another 3% of your salary once a year. The downside is that you get it in August of the following year and you have to be employed on that day to get it. For example, if you work Jan 1-Dec31st 2006, you won't get the 3% bonus until August 2007, and you have to still be employed to get it. Still, it's pretty nice, giving you in essence 7% of your salary into 401(k) BEFORE your contributions. My current company has a decent stock purchase plan. You enroll once every 6 months, and they buy stock at 15% discount from the lowest point on the first or last day of the plan (ie: if the stock is $30/share on Jul 1st, and is $50/share on Dec 31st, you buy shares at $25.50). You can contribute up to 10% of your salary into this. Regular benefits are "weird." The company gives you 60 credits, each credit is worth $1, and you put them towards your benefits. So health insurance is $30/pay period, you can put 60 credits towards that, and not pay anything for health. You can then buy life insurance, dental, vision, etc. Works out nice. I can (unofficially) work from home if I need to, that's also an awesome benefit. CW

Don't tell the NFL that I'm going to be watching the game on my 110" screen

It's been around for about a year. Someone did a breakdown and found that you could get it cheaper if you bought everything indiividually. Not sure who they're marketing this towards. Maybe the same people who would spend $80,000 on a 108" LCD TV?
-
Yeah, I'm not sure what that was about either. If they've been around for weeks, you'd think we would've heard something about it by now, so I'm not sure either.
-
Where did anybody say that? But if you use a little common sense after you see them (especially after you identified what the first one was) and you don't have to paralyze the whole damn city. And from the article, it's not like these all popped up yesterday - they've been around multiple cities for *WEEKS.* I doubt all 7 calls came at the same time.
-
You're completely missing the point and it has to be on purpose because nobody is that dumb. Well, except for people living in Boston. Are you seriouslly implying that because some of their products are popular that people should just ignore the fact that they broke the law?
-
Are you intentionally ignoring the part where I said I avoid Sony SINCE THE ROOTKIT INCIDENT? All of the things you're talking about came out BEFORE that. And I can honestly say that I don't use any of those things anymore, since most of those inventions havn't been used since the early 90s... CW
-
Ahh, so because of one isolated incident, we should throw out common sense? Gotcha. (I suppose we've been doing stupid stuff at airports ever since, so why not).- I'm sure this is more of the media blowing it up (no pun intended), but the governor calling for people's heads is just as ludicrous.

To the people who say you need to take everything seriously, I read this on another board: "You have to take these all seriously, because who knows if they're threats or not?" Do you wear an earthed metal hat whenever you go out and the weather's a bit dodgy? Have you plastered your children and housepets in flexible Faraday cages? Go look up the chances of being killed in a terrorist attack, and then the chances of being hit by lightning. If you always wear lightning-proof headgear and earthed metal underwear in the rain, then rant away. If not, your response is fact-free, emotion-not-intelligence-prompted horseshit caused by media over-reporting and sensationalising that has no place in a serious debate. Look up the statistics - you're more likely to be hit by lightning than killed in a terrorist attack. So if you don't spend the same amount of time worrying about lightning as you spend worring about "t3h T3rr0R1sTs!!11!1!" you're being a nervous jumpy !@#$wit.

You're making it sound like the blinking lights are just randomly on the box. They're shaped as a character, and I would've thought that you would appreciate cartoon-looking characters giving people the finger. Also, the show is actually extremely popular. It was even on an episode of CSI a couple of years ago. I want to know why it is that these things were in 10 different cities, and only Boston freaked out about it. Agreed.

Another older movie you may have missed that was excellent is Princess Mononoke. It's originally from Japan, but they hired top quality actors to voice the American version. Even my wife, who thought she was going to hate it, loved it. CW
