  1. No, I'm saying that if you spend a little more on a PC (but still less than a Mac), they'll be equally reliable.
  2. Terminator isn't officially cancelled yet. http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2009/04/fall-tv-cheat-s.html I like both Terminator and Dollhouse, but I have to say that Dollhouse has MUCH more potential. Lots of people stopped watching Dollhouse after the first couple of episodes, but that was a misake as the first 4-5 episodes were building up the world and showing how everyone fits into it. Everything started to fall into place around the middle of the season. I enjoyed Terminator and hope it gets renewed too, but if I had to choose, I think Dollhouse is a far better choice based on what we've seen of them so far. The new "V" was picked up by ABC as well -- hope they don't screw it up!
  3. What should I be checking? I'm assuming if there was power in the light fixture, the lights would turn on, no? How do I test the light switch with this? Do I have to take the entire switch apart? When are you flying to Minnesota, Jack?
  4. So it looks like the lights in the master bathroom decided to stop working today.... My wife said that when she turned them on this morning, one of the bulbs (out of 8) flickered a little like it was trying to turn on, and then everything stayed off. We have similar lighting fixtures in both of the other bathrooms in the house, so I removed a bulb from one of those, and the lights worked fine (in the other bathroom), just to eliminate a single bulb blowing out as being the culprit. I then checked each light in the bad bathroom to make sure it wasn't burned out, and none of them seem to be. I checked the breaker box, and none of the breakers were tripped. All of the outlets in the room work fine, and the exhaust fan (in the same junction box, but a second switch) works fine as well. I don't have much experience with electrical (or home things in general, as some people will note! ), and I'm not sure how comfortable I am working with things that can electrocute and kill me.... From what I've read, it could be the light switch itself, or it could be the light fixture. I've never heard of a fixture going bad before, but the fact that my wife saw one of the bulbs flicker leads me to believe that could be the problem. Any ideas? How do I check these things? I'm assuming I'd need to buy a volt meter and some other stuff, since I don't own any of it.
  5. Where did you read about Reaper? I *love* that show, but haven't read about the renewal yet!
  6. Dollhouse was renewed! http://www.thrfeed.com/2009/05/dollhouse-second-season.html Looks like Friday Night Lights was as well.
  7. You have to take RJ. He went 9-17 in Buffalo, whereas Losman went 10-23. RJ: http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/J/JohnRo00.htm JP: http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/L/LosmJ.00.htm
  8. As I've said before though - that's due to the HARDWARE, not the software. There's a reason you can't build your own MacOS box -- because Apple wants tight controls over the hardware configurations. If you're willing to spend a little more for decent components, your PC will run just as well as your Mac. I have a dual-processor (yes, two physical CPUs) Opteron system that I built 4+ years ago - and it runs just as well as any new PC/Mac that you buy now. I haven't even reinstalled the OS, like I usually do every few years, since I've been busy with work and life.
  9. I'm not sure how this is possible, but there are a ton of security updates released for MacOS... Don't forget to patch (I thought only Windows had to patch?! ) http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3549

  11. I have a '99 Camry XLE. Works great -- thought about replacing it, but it's never had any problems, so might as well keept it awhile longer. Check out edmunds.com -- lots of good info there, including invoice prices. Cars.com is decent as well.
  12. Not really sure what they've been doing for the past 13 years... But I hope they had fun with whatever it was. In the day, Duke Nukem was the best FPS IMHO. Great action, great one-liners, etc. It would've been tough for them to live up to that again, but I wish they could've at least tried. http://www.3drealms.com/news/2009/05/goodbye.html I must've missed this, but some actual gameplay footage was released: http://www.gametrailers.com/player/usermovies/316683.html
  13. That's not true though -- they are making money off of you, from the vendors. Everytime you use your card, Discover gets a percentage of what you charged. That's why some smaller shops give a discount for using cash - because it's cheaper for them. I have a Visa card I've used for years similar to yours (except that I only pay it off once a month instead of every other week) -- and the interest rate is 8.9%.
  14. You must be confused -- you put the best thing to the LEFT of the > symbols. Therefore, my original post was correct. The Sisko > Darth Vader > Picard > Kirk. Let me know if you need more help with this.
  15. Buried...? It's the 3rd post! I agree with ya on Jadzia though! We all know that The Sisko > Darth Vader > Picard > Kirk.
  16. Business loans are generally much LOWER than that! Here's a site with examples: http://www.scruzccu.org/rates/business-english.shtml And a business with debt is actually a good thing, if within reason. You want your business to be well leveraged, but not so much that they're not making money on the loans. I didn't quite get it (and still don't get it 100%), but my wife explained it to me when she was going through grad school to get her MBA. Here's a decent Wikipedia entry about it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leverage_(finance) "Financial leverage (FL) takes the form of a loan or other borrowings (debt), the proceeds of which are (re)invested with the intent to earn a greater rate of return than the cost of interest." So in essence, you take your loan at 5% and invest it into the business as a means to make more than 5% back.
  17. I would hope those people would be getting LOANS and not using credit cards....
  18. I wouldn't think so -- you really think the people who carry a balance on a high-interest credit card care if it's 25% or 35%? At that point, it's all the same - a TON.
  19. I agree in principle... But the people living beyond their means are the mean who can't afford to keep living beyond their means... Kinda like the interest-only loans for houses. MN is making things worse, not better... Glad I don't live in the state!
  20. "The bill would charge credit card companies a 30 percent surtax on income from interest exceeding 15 percent." http://www.startribune.com/politics/state/...D3aPc:_Yyc:aUUX I guess I don't understand how the state can tax a credit card company.....?

  22. Apparently so.... Your dates must be a bit off, because there was a LONG gap between the HD TiVos and the new HR20s. In addition, once they started talking about removing the MPEG2 feeds (which is all the HD TiVo could receive), they offered free swaps for HR21s. They didn't talk about shutting off MPEG2 until they had the new sat up that did MPEG4 -- so there wasn't anything you couldn't get until then. There was only a few month gap between the MPEG4 stuff and the free trade-in promos if I recall; sounds like you got stuck in no-man's land. As for the "lease vs own" thing -- it's all semantics and only affects how they get to write things down on their books. I've modifed both of my DVRs by adding 1TB harddrives in them. That's something you generally can't do with any cable company DVR that I'm aware of -- non-upgradable. Satellite internet isn't from DirecTV -- and yes, it sucks. Latency kills. Many areas, however, have teamed up to offer their own "Triple play" of DirecTV/Qwest DSL/Qwest VOIP (phone). Sorry you had a bad experience -- but yours is obviously the exception (based on anecdotal evidence here, as well as the awards they win every year for best customer service).
