I thought I was supposed to chat with strangers when I was at the movies...?
-
AJ does. But you said that instead of watching TV for an hour a day, I should go to the movie theater to be around real people.
-
What is this "handwriting" you speak of....? And how do you send that through the computer...?
-
It's only an hour of TV a day....... And why would I want to spend $40 to go to the movies every night.... That's way more expensive than the $150/month that TW wants to charge!

Shell: http://aplawrence.com/MacOSX/macosxshell.html http://www.macdevcenter.com/pub/a/mac/2004/02/24/bash.html That's all you need to do everything.

Depends on what tier they put you in. From the article: Here's some more logical math for your consumption: consider TWC's 40 GB tier. It costs a whopping $54.90 per month. If you only watch 7.25 hours a video per week, via Netflix, your Xbox 360, or any other service, you will be slapped with a bill of $200 at the end of the month. Worried? "Don't worry," says TWC's COO Landel Hobbs. "Overage charges will be capped at $75 per month. That means that for $150 per month customers could have virtually unlimited usage at Turbo speeds," says Hobbs.

The other thing to think about is that VoIP is pretty prevelant -- cable companies even offer it as an "unlimited service." So are they going to still give their own VoIP solution an exception to the bandwidth restrictions? If so, that's anti-competitive to companies like Skype and Vonage. If they do count the bandwidth use as part of the service, now it's no longer "unlimited." I was just reminded about this because I'm looking at my Comcast internet bill, and they're trying to sell me "unlimited phone service for only $19.99/month!"
-
That's not really succumbing to pressure -- a 1G/month plan, really? If you only download 1G/month, then you're better off with dialup. And their "cap" simply means your monthly bill will never go above $150. Ummm, yay?

TW is building a lot of bad blood between itself and its customers, first with the NFLN, then with the CBS fiasco, now this. Basically they have "tiers" to determine how much you can download, and the higher the tier, the more you pay. If the tiers were reasonable, fine. But they're currently set to 5, 10, 20, and 40G. It seems to be a way to stop people from watching TV online (legally). My question is -- are they going to give you a tool to be able to monitor your bandwidth? How are they going to prove I'm the one even using it? If I know that Joe is online, there's nothing to stop me from flooding his IP address to raise his usage -- all transparent to him. Even worse, what if I sneak some malware onto his machine and use him as a P2P bot without him knowing? At least cell phones give you a way to check how many minutes you've used. Good luck doing that with bandwidth. http://techdirt.com/articles/20080118/170255.shtml http://www.tomshardware.com/news/time-warn...t-drm,7530.html

I did see some horror stories: http://www.terrylove.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17806 We obviously pour boiling water in the sink all the time -- draining pasta, for example -- but I'd have to think the post about the cracking is the exception rather than the rule. As for resale -- I don't think black would be a turnoff for potential buyers, but maybe it would be? The counters are probably going to be neutral -- this one's leading the pack for us right now: http://www.silestoneusa.com/colors/colors.cfm?ColorID=382 And some pictures in this thread show the black sink with a neutral granite/quartz countertop: http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/kitch...3002217741.html

I'd never buy a VW because of the electrical problems they always seem to have. I"ve read bad things about them, and a couple of coworkers have had Passats and they've always had silly electrical issues.

My wife and I are going to be installing quartz countertops in our kitchen. We went to a showroom and saw these "granite" sinks -- I put that in quotes because the description says that they're 80% quarts and 20% resin, so I have no idea why they're called granite... Anyway, they look pretty cool -- we liked the dark black one, it had a cool finish, looked nice compared to regular stainless steel. However, I'm not sure how well it holds up, if it stains, etc. I read some people complaining about cracking, but it sounds like most of that is during installation, and since I'm hiring that out with the countertop, it shouldn't matter to me. Just wondering if anyone has 'em and whether they like 'em or not. We're also looking to go with Silestone for our quarts countertop. Any opinions?

RIP Firefly....

I personally think they're killing the characters because they know it's going to be cancelled. The show has tremendous potential, and it hits every now and then -- but there's usually many "dull" episodes that don't really do much for the story and aren't that interesting to watch. It's not much different than a lot of shows -- Star Trek:TNG, for example -- but networks are quicker to pull the plug now (although to be fair, Terminator did get 2 seasons...). One thing I read was that Warner Brothers gave Fox a big discount on the Terminator licensing fees so that they'd keep the show on the air as a platform for the new Terminator movie. Once the movie is done, Warner probably won't do that for next season. I hope it comes back too, but I Just don't see it happening.

Care to elaborate? How many eps have you actually watched?
-
I just assumed that was you in the video...

I've never seen any of the ads.... But I've always wanted to visit Australia and NZ.

Curiously, the same company that computes your FICO score (credit score) actually makes the NFL schedule: http://www.fairisaac.com/NR/exeres/D18C18B...4,frameless.htm

What is the best advice you have received and used?
Fezmid replied to BuffaloBill's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I guess I didn't receive it, I just figured it out myself... "If you want something, ask for it. The worst someone will say is 'no.'" I've used it to get free training (contacted the coordinators of the conference when I was still in college, and they paid for my conference fees and put me up in a hotel, all I had to do was pay to fly there), discounts on stuff at stores, and many many other things. -

That's actually overstated. Most people who would normally buy movies/music pay for them. Those who don't are the type who normally wouldn't buy them anyway. Look at the sales numbers: http://www.usatoday.com/life/movies/news/2...-slippage_N.htm Rental stayed even between 2006 and 2007 -- $7.5 BILLION. Sales dipped only $600 million, down to $16 BILLION. So no, I don't think pirating has much of anything to do with the industry as a whole.

The problem is that with Blockbuster out of the picture, Netflix has less competition. They've already raised their price on Blu-Ray twice in the past 6-9 months....
