  1. The article you linked to made no mention of the gas pedal being stuck and that the cop confirmed it. Do you have a better link that has some real details? (no offense or anything - I don't mind a friendly debate )
  2. I haven't actually seen a link confirming that gas pedals are sticking... There was the one case in California with the non-Toyota, improperly installed floormat that caused an issue. That's not directly Toyota's fault, but rather the individual dealer's fault (which indirectly is Toyota's fault, since they installed it). But aside from that, I've seen no official links stating that gas pedals are accelerating cars. I keep asking for links in other threads on TSW, but nobody posts them.... And yes, I am blaming the consumer because it seems that most people have no personal responsibility anymore and like to blame all of their problems on other people/companies. Without proof, I don't believe them.
  3. Or it's more ambulance chasing. Sorry, I find it nearly impossible to believe that all of a sudden we're finding out that every Toyota vehicle ever made has problems with every sub-system... Sounds a lot like people making stuff up to try and "get rich quick." I have a very low opinion of most Americans, so maybe I'm being too cynical. The cop wasn't actually in the car, so how does he know what the driver was actually doing...? Like I said, I'm very cynical and the fact that everyone coming out saying their car is broken and is just a death trap all of a sudden just seems highly suspicious to me, especially considering I haven't seen any root cause from independent mechanics - just a lot of theory. Lots of people have looked at the cars and said that they seem fine...
  4. Still not buying it, no matter how many times you post about it. Please explain how the engine of the Prius is stronger than the brakes? Dude even says in the article that he could smell the brakes burning up from pressing them so hard. Seriously? I will again point to this article, and the quote about brakes vs engines: http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/in-defens...-the-audi-5000/ "Parnelli fired up the Caddy's big V8, dropped it in gear and floored it- with his other foot on the brake. The left rear wheel lit up in a screeching howl; the car was soon engulfed in a cloud of acrid smoke. The Caddy didn't move an inch- obviously. And neither did Parnelli, glancing at the wincing producer with his wicked grin. I had assumed (wrongly) that race-car drivers grew up eventually. The experience seared in a lesson in basic automobile physics: brakes are always more powerful than engines, even when they have 500 cubic inches (8.2 liters). Too bad we didn't have our cameras running. We could have made a graphic rebuttal to 60 Minutes' fraudulent destruction of Audi." If you can explain how the Pernelli doesn't move with an engine roughly a billion times more powerful than the Prius, and how the brakes of the Prius allegedly burned up but couldn't slow down the little electric car that could, I'm willing to listen. But basic physics say it's impossible. On a related note, a cop car crashed into some pedestrians at a winter carnival here in Minnesota many years ago. Initially the cop said that the car lurched forward despite not actually pressing the gas. After the investigation, they found he accidentally pressed the gas. So do cop cars have "sudden acceleration problems" as well? Or do people get rattled/confused during stressful situations?
  5. Agreed. I did see Precious though and I *HATED* her character so much -- which to me, is the sign of a great performance.
  6. Kinda crazy... There's been a half dozen cop cars on the road across the street from my office building. http://www.startribune.com/local/east/8690...D3aPc:_Yyc:aUUs http://www.kare11.com/news/news_article.aspx?storyid=843761
  7. "No payment due" does not mean "no accrual of interest." My credit cards frequently say I owe nothing for the month....
  8. Yup, works great. wget as well - but that's more for scripting.
  9. I know -- and that could mean he simply told an off-color joke. That's all it takes nowadays.
  10. The title is misleading. "Sexual harassment" could mean he simply told a "that's what she said" joke and someone didn't appreciate it. Doesn't mean he's into dudes.
  11. I seem to recall one of them ended in LA (or maybe NY?) and they were saying things like, "This is our hometown! No problem here!" And then they lost... Can't remember specifics though...
  12. I'm pretty sure any of those boxed foods are going to be processed though.... Do you have examples to the contrary? Just because it's tasty and better than Swanson frozen dinners doesn't make it non-processed and "real" (based on the articles' definition).
  13. Interesting article, and related to some other conversations we've had here in the past. http://www.cnn.com/2010/HEALTH/02/23/real....dex.html?hpt=C1
  14. #6 and #7 are my votes - great movies, great twists.
  15. It happens. There was one season where the final city was the same city the team was from. I believe they lost though....
  16. Actually from what I've read, the floor mat was not the right kind (size) for the car, and it was installed backwards... The individual dealership screwed up badly in that case, not the entire company. And who the hell WOULDN'T brake when going too fast? Come on now. And if you don't have time to brake, you were following too closely. At least that's what I learned in driver's ed -- how is the guy in front of you slamming on his brakes any different than your car speeding up? Both require the same reaction. Based on the lack of responses, I'm guessing this is the only "problem" that has been noticed with the Toyota cars and I'm not actually missing anything then? Based on this statement, pBills apparently does think it's user error. Kudos!
  17. I'm still waiting to see proof that there was a problem with the product. Everything I've read (and I just did some quick Google searches - nothing in depth) point to the unauthorized floor mat causing the accelerator to stick... Nothing that applying the brake wouldn't fix.... What am I missing? Have any proof on what you're talking about, because I'd really like to know what the issues are - I'm just not seeing it yet. I'll point out this portion again: http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/in-defens...-the-audi-5000/ "Parnelli fired up the Caddy's big V8, dropped it in gear and floored it- with his other foot on the brake. Too bad we didn't have our cameras running. We could have made a graphic rebuttal to 60 Minutes' fraudulent destruction of Audi."
  18. And if it were REALLY a hearing, I would agree with you. But it wasn't - it was a chance for Congress to B word slap Toyota, nothing more. Nobody there was asking questions, they were leading a witch hunt to burn the company down, nothing more.
  19. Those who do not understand the past are doomed to repeat it. History shows that people lie (or are mistaken). Doesn't mean there's really a problem.
  20. I disagree - the IOC would've still complained about it. And I don't think many people outside of the IOC really care.
  21. Just like Audi in the 1980s...? You have yet to address that one, even though I've brought it up directly to you multiple times.
  22. You're honestly trying to say that the "hearing" was just about gathering facts and not pandering for votes and trying to sway public opinion away from Toyota?! Did you see/hear any of it?! And again I'll point to the "sudden acceleration issue" that Audi "had" in the 80s. How do you explain that one?
