  1. I'm ecstatic that they added Nix. He is truly a football guy ala Dwight Adams and AJ. Guy had better step his game up. I see this as a precursor to taking over pro player personnel. I still ditching my Sunday Ticket - but our college draft should be a good one, if they let Nix do his job. Yay.
  2. If there's still an Orakpo on the board and we take a TE, I think that would be a stupid move. Again, you build a team with the lines. And right now our DL is hurting. We don't throw enough to a TE to make the #11 pick a worthwhile pick. I don't know much about Pettigrew - but unless he is the second coming of Gonzales or Gates in his prime, I'm against this. C
  3. In some ways I think Marv was an alchemist. He certainly made some magic with the ingredients. I thought he sucked rocks as a game day coach. The reason we lost those SBs IMHO was because he expected his players to be men and act responsibly and rise to the occasion. I thought short of that first SB, the team self destructed off and on the field. Even the team leaders couldn't maintain discipline and focus when push came to shove. A strong coach would have corralled those guys - but it was obvious again - that Marv is a hands off guy and let's people do their jobs. Problem is sometimes people just don't fulfill their responsibilities. Marv is not the kind of guy who then holds their feet to the fire. I'm a Top Chef fan and tonight one of the guest judges said, "When you open a restaurant you have to assume people are not gonna do their jobs. It's the only way to be successful." I wonder sometimes if that's not Belichick's mantra. So he micro plans and manages. C
  4. I know, right? It's as if every team is perfect. The biggest equalizer is coaching. And currently we just don't have it except maybe in special teams.
  5. Amen. I'm not sure if hiring DJ at the time was the wrong move. For a young team learning how to win and a franchise needing stability the Bills needed someone to quiet the waters, I think Jauron was fine as the father figure type. Calm demeanor, intense but pleasant. But teams evolve, and DJ hasn't adapted. Keeping him now is absolutely the wrong move. Peyton Manning continuously gives Jim Mora Sr. credit for developing him into the player he is today. But Dungy was the guy to take the franchise to the next level. Jauron short of a miracle will be fired at the end or before next season. The Bills record will be worse than this season. The other teams in our div. have vastly improved - with the exception of maybe NE. But they were great to start with. C
  6. I love Marv, it's probably why I am a football fan. But Marv was just a little more than a figurehead when he was brought in as GM. He was just steering and letting people under his supervision do their jobs and build consensus. Unfortunately those people haven't done very good jobs. Marv's error was presuming that the rest of the personnel in the organization were the same kind of people he had when he was with the Bills the first time around. Thereby allowing him to delegate and maintain a hands off approach. Unfortunately, that was not the case. C
  7. I think Kollar was an upgrade over Tim "I'll Wrestle You" Krumrie - but really I don't think he was indispensable. Funny how much better of a coach you become when you have better talent. C
  8. Gruden - when he first signed - was reported to have fa lot of say on personnel. Allen had final say - but there was heavy input by Gruden. Here is the USA Today link: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/columnist/s...-saraceno_x.htm "The Glazer family handed Gruden the wheel to the Bucs' ship when they gladly permitted general manager Rich McKay — the man who rebuilt the franchise along with former coach Tony Dungy — to sail off for division rival Atlanta. No replacement has been named, but it's safe to say that it will be someone who won't challenge the coach often on personnel issues."
  9. How did the overachieve? I don't get it. Gruden has plenty of name recognition. But in the end after 6 years, he did nothing after winning with Dungy's talent pool. For a QB guru, he hasn't developed any guy. And their draft has been worse than ours. I'm glad we don't have him. I have to agree that the 2009-10 off season seems to have a great pool of coaching talent available. I'm surprised no one has made a play for Mariucci. But I don't think Shanahan, Cowher or Mariucci will coach this year. Plus if I think what happens here in Nashville happens, the Titans will fire Fisher next off season after choosing to go with VY and missing the playoffs. If that happens, Fisher - for my money would be the best guy available. C
  10. The best evaluation of NFL Draft players I've ever seen are the ones at nfldraftcountdown.com They watch the guys all through Senior Bowl week in Mobile,AL. They have been right on in most of their observations.
  11. I didn't think he was that great a QB. He certainly was a good college QB - but I had my doubts if he would be NFL caliber except maybe in a system that utilized his skill sets well. I don't think he's a game changer. Cutler consistently outplayed him. But Manning had a better team around him at Ole Miss. Then again his teammates couldn't spell Ole
  12. Maybe he meant "Snoring..."
  13. Yeah, but it's in the middle of Tornado Alley. Live in Nashville now. Used to live in Rochester. It's no contest. I'd rather drive/stay home in a blizzard than be in the path of a tornado. No fun!
  14. Amen! The guy is a game changer...Who would you take of the guys taken before him - maybe Matt Ryan. But the dude has lived up to expectations in my book. Of course, our coaching staff didn't utilize him until mid season, but hey... C
  15. Nope. Flacco threw the ball *between* two DBs and hit Heap. What the hell were the Titans players doing? Anyone think it's karma that the Titans haven't won't anything of significance since Home Run Throwup? I live in Nashville and the whining has not stopped since Saturday. C
  16. EXACTLY, that's why we took Whitner instead of Ngata with our pick. I agree that superior talent around an above average player can make said player better. But at some point, you have to draft superior talent. We could have had Ngata, one other good to excellent pass rusher in FA or the draft at this point, and together with Schobel they would have made Leonhard look *at least* as good as Whitner. Which incidentally isn't saying much. Before anyone goes off on me on how much a great addition to the locker room Whitner is. I get it. I like him. I think he's a good guy. We're FaceBook buddies for God's sake ;-) But for the love of Pete, when our FO can't make a simple decision about who the better player is per our needs, we've got bigger problems than whether Leonhard is great or just above average. In comparison to Simpson, Whitner and Wilson! Ozzie Newsome in my opinion is the best damn talent evaluator in the league. Pioli get's a lot of credit - but he has had Belichick coaching those guys. Who has Newsome had? Billick! I just gave myself a headache... C
  17. Goodness people, he has Russ Grimm, one of the all time great OL coaches coaching him...Who do we have? Great coaching can cover a multitude of sins. Poor coaching makes your talent look like they can't beat JV teams. Everybody is trying to dupe the NE formula and think getting above average players in good schemes is gonna get you there. They forget that one of the best all time coaches is coaching that team. Spawn of Satan though that he may be. C
  18. I simply love this show. Peter Berg is a genius.
  19. I'm flummoxed by the Kerry Collins for QB thing. Sure he is a vet. And a decent QB. But he plays behind a stellar line. He is not mobile by any means. If he sit behind our O line as long as he sits behind Munchak's he'll get killed. I think a Jeff Garcia type fits our Oline better. Collins is better off staying in Nashville or going to the Jets or Browns. C
  20. Bingo...I believe this has been our path thus far...
  21. Yeah, I wonder how appropriate Mauluga's action would be if instead of Andrews, it was their daughter, sister, wife or mother standing there oblivious. And then the cheering section. What a bunch of losers... Somehow because the woman is incredibly attractive and is doing her job in a male dominated sport, it's OK. Kinda like a subconscious/subtle "you come into my space, I'm gonna do what I want" childish move. No wonder these idiots think they can do anything they want with no consequences. Nothing more than an immature puppy peeing on his turf trying to show off how dominant he is. Somebody needs to grab the kid by the nape of the neck and put him in a submissive position ala Cesar the Dog Whisperer. Good for you, Lori. Stand your ground. We support you C
  22. Maybe, maybe not - I seem to recall a Bills Booster Meeting Report here from last offseason - perhaps by Cindy. I can't remember the exact details - But it went something like this - someone in the audience mentioned if they'll be looking for a pass catching TE in the draft. John Guy said they were all set with Robert Royal. Russ Brandon snickered. I knew then that Brandon was a better "football" guy than Guy. C
  23. Cutler was head and shoulders above anybody else that year at QB. C
  24. I think our drafts in the later rounds have been respectable. It's the 1-3 rounds that have got me upset. I think that reflects the everything by committee approach taken by the organization recently. There are no exciting picks IMO - the last one was McKelvin and the one before that was Evans. But the other picks I think have been safe rather than a chance at excellence. I just can't imagine this version of the FO selecting Darryl Talley for example. Nor perhaps even Thurman Thomas. The single most important criteria for working in this organization currently is that you have to be able to get along with the owner. Never mind if you are one of the top 3-5 in the league at your job. C
  25. I'll take that kind of "ugly" - their turnaround was probably the biggest miracle in the NFL this year. Next was probably Atlanta with all that turmoil. Again, a GM from the Parcells/Belichik coaching tree. But it just goes to show you what can happen when you make the commitment and effort and take the risk. Sure they could have come out with the short end of the stick. But if they didn't, they would have been guaranteed to fail. To a certain extent, you make your own luck. I admire those two franchises for being so courageous. Turns out for the Bills - the gutless players and play calling is just a reflection of the ownership. C
