  1. Dedication is one thing...But I for one need to not feel like an idiot for supporting an owner that has no desire to support the fans. Loyalty goes both ways. Love is sometimes irrational. Loyalty can also be irrational. But the healthiest relationships are ones we can walk away from. If you can't, that means you need therapy. I don't know if I'm ready to walk away. I'm a big believer in faith and loyalty. Perhaps to a fault. But I realize I'm in love or loyal to a fable/myth or something that doesn't exist anymore. A team that captured the imagination of an entire region, maybe even a country that reflected the resilience and resourcefulness of the community it represented. This team and it's leaders can't sniff the jockstraps of *that* memory and those individuals. I bear no ill will towards Jauron. He's a good man. But he is an awful game day coach. The owner is the one who now seems to be flaunting a blatant disregard for his fan base. But billionaire owners are not working or middle class families trying to make ends meet hoping their gladiators/heroes show up for 3 hours every Sunday to give them very expensive entertainment. These guys like *this* coach and they still can't perform for him. Think about that for a second. I used to have a great respect for Ralph - but I honestly think he's lost his judgment. Maybe Mort and the rest of the sports press do know something about this owner that we don't. He's just a kinder, gentler Al Davis. I'll be glad to come back running with my tail tucked between my legs when they start winning on a regular basis. But until then there will probably be wiser ways to spend my money.
  2. http://www.wgrz.com/sports/story.aspx?stor...100&catid=4 I'm a loyal guy. I also like to think I am a reasonable person. But I need to not feel like an idiot for supporting this team. Maybe it's just time to support the hometown Titans. The owner is an idiot but at least he knows how to run his football business. Aiy, so sad. C
  3. I agree - we are set up perfectly - except for maybe the financial part. I don't know what the financial state of our franchise is. Sure Toronto gave us some money - but who knows how much we are in the black/red. C
  4. Are you friggin' kidding me? Quick, when a guy who's coached and won a SuperBowl with a budget team wants to coach your team. His conditions - he gets to bring his own front office guy. *Your* front office has been unsuccessful for 9 years. What do you do? !@#$ him? I'd give him the keys to goddamn kingdom, if he'd come. This franchise needs a benevolent dictator. And I ain't talkin' Ralph. And TD was not benevolent. C
  5. The JP vs Trent thing is done AFAIC. Trent I think will be a better QB. But on that Dockery whiff, his peripheral vision should have picked up Green. He should have crouched, taken the hit and protected the ball. That to me constitutes the "feeling the pressure" part of his game. FWIW, I think his sixth sense was better prior to the concussion. But hopefully going into his 3rd season, he'll take this team by the scruff of the neck and say, "We're getting it done. No ifs or buts." C
  6. The big criticism of JP (again, I'm not trying to say JP is a better QB) at the time (and please go check the boards here after that play went down) was that JP's clock is off and that he couldn't "feel" the pressure. Also that he couldn't protect the ball. All I'm saying is why is Trent not being held to the same standard. Even the commentators were saying he didn't even realize someone was on him till it was too late. I know the thing to do here is to take the "you're just a JP supporter" argument. But honestly right now who would you take given their play and pocket presence and all around feel for the game: 1) Trent 2) Matt Ryan ( I am surprised as anyone as to how well he is doing) 3) Joe Flacco (read above in parentheses) You can say 2) and 3) have better support and coaching. But do you see the desire in his eyes ala Lynch or Jackson? I don't. Maybe he'll get there - I hope he does. But right now he is a template QB - and my argument is that two rookies are getting it done better than him - and that TE right now has some of the same flaws we're upset with JP about. That desire/fire/confidence is there in Cutler, Rivers - even in a 7th round pick named Matt Cassell. Take a look at him after he outjocked Corner on that QB scramble on 4th & 2. Take a look a TE every time after he gets hit. There's a mini drama. He walks around, grimaces and walks it off. Again, I like the kid's quick release. I like how he distributes the ball when he makes the right read/decision. But right now he isn't very inspiring. Sure, the guys say he is our leader yada, yada, yada - they're saying the same thing about Jauron, FWIW. And maybe that's the problem, he is taking the emotional lead of his coach - which is to say insipid. I'm for giving the guy the benefit of the doubt - but I also want some kind of veteran insurance. C
  7. I hear what you say Bill and agree with you in the above paragraphs. But two rookie QBs are outplaying our "diamond in the rough" 2nd year 3rd round find. You can blame coaching/GMing all you want and in most cases I'd probably agree. However, Trent was sacked/stripped/fumbled on an identical looking play that we crucified JP for two weeks ago. I'm not saying JP is a better QB by any stretch of the imagination - but at some point the QB HAS to make the play. At no time during the game yesterday or in any games this year except maybe against a very weak KC team - did I "feel" that Trent was gonna put the game on his shoulders and will the team to a win. That has been my biggest gripe with the QBs we've taken in the draft - I wonder what kind of passion/will/drive the FO is seeing in guys we want to be our on field leaders when we draft them. Hell - Jon Kitna - for all his lack of ability has that fire. A 5 minute post game press conference and the guy's on field demeanor is all I need to figure it out. I heard Parcells say once that the most important phase of the draft evaluation process is the passion of the player he interviews. If football isn't life or death to him or at least in the top 3 after God & Family, Parcells would have a problem with him. I'm also involved in the music business - these days there are radio consultants who market test a single prior to sending it on to radio. Here's the kicker - they approve of records that don't get too high or too low consumer grades. They feel that it polarizes the customer base and they turn the channel. Thereby not keeping the consumer on said channel to "listen to advertisements for tires." I sometimes feel like the football by committee approach espoused by the Bills (ie. consensus) is just like the above scenario. FO personnel have got to be willing to lay their b8lls on the line and say, "This guy is gonna win for us. We're taking him - end of discussion." Trent could potentially be the heir apparent to Kelly/Flutie. But I'm just as concerned that he will be the next QB flop. Nothing in his demeanor says - "I will not allow myself to fail" Maybe that will change. But perhaps someone should tell me how long I should wait to find out. Better yet - how will I know? C
  8. Browns are out of it. Per ESPN. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3797518 Makes me wonder if he'll even consider the Bills.
  9. True. But I'm tired of waiting for young/rookie QBs to come around. We haven't done a great job of grooming QBs. Even Kelly had Marchibroda. It's time for us to get a proven/solid vet QB to come in and tutor/mentor Edwards. The only way he'll learn is by playing. But he's learning curve will accelerate when we have a guy who "knows" how to play in the elements. If/when Trent struggles we all don't stand around holding our jockstraps for him to get it. Ala Collins/Young in TN. Miami drafted Henne but you didn't see them wait when they got Pennington. What has that got to do with anything. I'm an Edwards supporter. But yesterday was the third "elements" game he's struggled in. C
  10. I think Don Banks sums it up nicely today: "Somehow I can't imagine a Bill Belichick-coached team ever mindlessly allowing the clock to wind to triple zeroes while some Patriots players engage in a skirmish that keeps New England from even trying a just-before-halftime field goal attempt in a 3-0 game. But that's what Dick Jauron's Bills did on Sunday. And it was all too indicative of the disarray that has ruled in Buffalo in the season's second half."
  11. As much as I think it's time for DJ to go, I think he was the right coach at the right time for us. The ship was pretty much shipwrecked when he signed on. I think between him and Levy the franchise needed to be "stabilized." To some extent I think that has been accomplished. Now, it's time for the next phase in this team's growth. At least from a talent standpoint, I think we can win with this group with the addition of a legit pass rusher and a solid TE/#2 WR. This kind of reminds me of the post Jim Mora/pre Tony Dungy Colts. Sans of course, Bill Polian C
  12. I'm from Malaysia. Live in Nashville now. Damn these Bills - they hook you in. I got caught up in the whole thing when I went to school at RIT in the late 80s/early 90s. Arrrgggh! C
  13. Everything I've heard/read about Jauron says he's great human being. I probably would want him as a close friend. I have many close friends. I don't want any of them as my head coach of the Buffalo Bills. I believe great people and great coaches are not necessarily the same thing. Notable exceptions are Marv Levy and Tony Dungy. I'm not sure Jauron as a human being/HC combo is in their class. C
  14. I'm all for optimism. But all of a sudden, some folks think we have a good coach and some great players. The game yesterday was the exact game we played the first 4 games of the season. Denver was incredibly inefficient scoring TDs yesterday and their D was awful. Those FGs into TDs and we'd be running Jauron to the funeral pyre. This team can't beat another team unless the other team stubs it's toe. And even then it's debatable. Our D was sliced and diced all through the first 2 quarters. If Denver had a better running game, We'd be bat cr8p now. Good teams dictate games. We let other teams dictate to us. That is a direct result of coaching. The only real superstars on this team are: 1) Lynch 2) Jackson 3) McKelvin 4) Evans - he disappears too much during long stretches but still a joy when he is "on." 5) I can't decide on Mitchell and Stroud. Too inconsistent. C
  15. As much as I hate to suggest this - given what happened this off season and his crappy play this season. I think he is a franchise LT and should get paid. Tear up the present contract. Add incentives and workout bonuses as well as performance benchmark bonuses/pay and call it a day. Also, add contract language for conduct detrimental to team and add reverse escalator clauses for such behavior. In essence a contract within a contract. I don't know why teams don't add language for contracts being non negotiable for within 2 years of expiration. C
  16. OMG - one of the best posts this season
  17. The common denominator in all those teams Falcons, Fins, Ravens is that they have stellar front offices. FOs and GMs that can evaluate players and coaches. Atl - Dimitroff (Pioli protege) Bal - Ozzie Newsome Mia - Parcells What do we have? I like Brandon - but he needs to distinguish himself this off season. He needs to hire a real football guy he can learn from. C
  18. It doesn't bother you that *that's* the reason we should keep the guy? Not his ability as a HC? I think his career record speak for itself. I want to be Jauron's friend and I'll invite him to my Christmas parties. I just don't want him as my HC. C
  19. Hmm...Kinda like the first 4 games? Against mediocre Ds? C
  20. He *is* looking like a first round pick! Mr. Whitner please take note. C
  21. I've been rooting for him since training camp. He's just been All Fisher. But this coaching staff and the Marshawn Lynch incident seems to have hurt his playing time. C
  22. Oh, I don't know if that's accurate They *do* run different routes - Johnson knows how to run routes and use his body well. Hardy - at this point - hasn't run a route yet. That's why he's being used for jump balls. No routes involved. Johnson to me seems a smart, heady player. Look at the Jets game and how he positions himself against DBs. He's been well coached and plays smart. It's clear to me that Hardy was just asked to go out there and make plays and make the most of physical ability and athleticism. That ain't gonna be enough in the NFL. So I think he's had more of a learning curve. But I also think he's having trouble staying focussed when the ball isn't being throw his way. Not a bad criticism. Probably most rookie WRs struggle. But I'm on the SJ bandwagon - I think he can be scary good. C
  23. Uh, look at the game tape. Who inspires more confidence and seems better at his routes? Also who has had more opportunities? Who has been more productive? What's the opp:prod ratio? I don't think Hardy is a bust. But at this point, I'm a lot more confident at saying that Johnson is so much the better receiver. Taking into account that glaciers move faster than our coaches ability to recognize playmakers on this team. Just observe the A-Train vs Jackson decision. And the Aiken and Bannen releases. Ad infinitum.... C
  24. Donahoe's biggest problem was that he was paranoid. The ghost of Cowher followed him around. When you get into a pissing match with the press/media, you're not gonna win. He couldn't choose a good coach because he constantly feared his power being usurped. C
  25. I work at Vandy. I wished the Bills would have picked Cutler. JP or no JP. But I really wish they would have picked Ngata more. Sigh... If you're picking a safety as a top 10 pick. His name better be Ed Reed, Ronnie Lott or John Lynch... C
