Peter King update on Whitner pick
OCinBuffalo replied to syhuang's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have been saying the same thing for months now. However, I really hope for a monster(good not fat) o lineman to be drafted first or second next year. Especially a right guard. Villarial is ok but we need depth. One, it will help to anchor the line - who are all fairly young and transitioning away from CV will prolly need to happen sooner than later. Bringing in a guy who has a first round o line skills should help out greatly. Two, it will allow us to transition from Villarial without too much strife - the thing that I believe causes most of our problems. If we only change 1 guy one the o line every 2 years or so I think we will finally put an end to this nonsense. Three, BillNYC will get to have a great day. Disclaimer: The reason we, and a lot of others in the league, draft DBs high is because of their FA value, and their ability to make an near instant impact(see KO and Donte). DB FA value is way overinflated, but, nonetheless after 5 years of solid play you have to pay the piper for DBs. While it is short-sighted, o lineman do take longer to develop. I am sure that Marv is not gonna tell Bills fans:"well, we drafted for next year" anytime soon. If we do better than expected this year and are drafting in the low to mid 20s those 3-4 monster o lineman in most draft classes may already be gone. So, we may be looking for best value available. I hope not. I would love to see a underrated Kyle Williams on the O Side so that Kiper and King can tell us we reached - again! -
I see the issue about Mularkey and backyard plays vs. our D as not as burning as this one: Can Miami's talent depleted secondary stop our passing attack - provided JP executes (only 1 pick) and we can keep em off balance with screens to Willis, I think we will see a lot of hitch and go, Robert Royal and; after abusing them for big plays in the first half - slants, slants, slants in the second half. I think they will not rollover and die however, which means we will be throwing in the 4th quarter. Again, execution and no mentall errors are key.

Insult to injury regarding the 4th and 1 play
OCinBuffalo replied to buffaloboyinATL's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Um, let those of us who know football educate you... the game we played in your stadium - yes the land of two free tickets with every Mach 3 purhcase - in 1998 singlehandedly brought back instant replay. So at least you have that going for you. I watched that game and the key play in question had your WR catching the ball so far out of bounds that the first thing he hit was a cameraman. Oh, he got one foot down, on the edge of the white out of bounds strip. But I digress, I believe we got to hear boos at the end of the 2nd quarter at the stadium of the "die hard" and "dedicated", "best non-bandwagon fans" in the league. I thought that Pats fans were above such base behavior - according to you. Your own team, and it's fans, belie pretty much everything you said last week. Time to own up - your team is in decline and we will soon see the days of the aforementioned razor/tickets deal. You, your fans, and your team got their taste of what being a winning team is like - and honestly that's great. As I said before you will soon be the mere annoyance you have always been. Then we shall see the "dedication" your "die hard"(as though there are any) fans will display= easy ticket to get once more. Again, you always have the opportunity to prove me wrong. Knock yourself out - but you have to know - deep down - this will never be. Reality bites - B word. Sorry - deal with it. -
Bills Pats Replay on NFL Network

I thought we weren't supposed to believe in things like "just give it to em" or that messing with Fast Freddie was clearly an obvious tactic, or anything that might be close to an alterior motive - according to you. I watched the game tonight - again - and I am here to tell you that Nate(after watching it several times) did not even touch the guy he supposedly blocked in the back. In fact, it was just the opposite. Nate was clearly defending his own legs on that - if he touched him at all it was with two fingers on his right hand. The guy went down in an attempt to tackle Whitner. Nate kinda just stood there but - what else would one expect from a guy who is going into a contract year. There is no doubt after having done my thing IT-wise that the look in his eyes was "oh sh_t don't hit me in the knee" not "great let's hit this guy in the back and score". Say what you all will but Clements was simply trying to keep the Pats guy from hitting him - not blocking. What is clear is that there was no reason to blow a whistle - at all. Moreover, the ref closest to the play is not in position - and his head is wrong - but you can't see his eyes of course - to even make the penalty call. So that leaves us with nothing other than human error - or that the refs are used to things going the other way. I dunno but after the 4th missed holding call I started to say that we had to win in spite of the refs - just like the old days. And that, as crazy as it sounds, felt great! -
Right on - I'd rather be angry, po'd and the refs, etc. than embarassed. I feel like I haven't felt in a long time - Thanks Marv.

Right on. It's amazing to see the difference in the posts around here. All off-season it was: 1. Marv is too old and his draft sucks 2. DJ is a retreaded coach and is too conservative 3. We didn't draft the right people 4. JP is horrible or let's wait and see or Holcomb now 5. We are gonna be 8-8 at best 6. NE is gonna blow us out Now a game has been played and the truth has come out: 1. Marv is Marv, period 2. DJ has clearly got this team on the right track, went for it on 4th and 1 and said he would do it again 3. We had 5 of our drafted players on the field Sunday. The coches said they played well and we were in that game the whole way. 4. JP is gonna be very good and everyone is too afraid to say it. 5. We should be 8-8 at a minimum - the experts are wrong, again. 6. NE was lucky to hang on in that game and we should beat them at home So, now that so many here have been proven wrong with play on the field, or at least not 100% right, these same folks move on to what else was done wrong 3 and 1 vs 4 and 1, Parrish Fumbling kickoffs, and other little nitpicky nonsense in a game we should have won. But wait a minute - I thought you said we were gonna get blown out! Or, the other 1-6 from above! Now you are complaining about not only staying with, but possibly beating at home, a team that we couldn't even come close to for the last 5 years? Come on people. I know it's hard to break habits and it's hard to get your hopes up only to have them crushed. But please, things are nowhere near as bad as people have been saying. Shake it off already. This is a new and dare I say GOOD, or at least competitve, team. The truth is none of us really know what is going to happen this year. Sure it' not 1990-3 when we knew we were playoff bound. But can anyone tell me honestly that it doesn't feel like 1986-88 when we weren't sure one way or the other?

Hell, she just called me! We have a weird thing going - all of us in my family - don't ask. She can't wait till the game and she just got home. So whattda want? Look, don't freak out on me. Everything you are saying is possible. I mean, after all, the guy was 3rd string. I just like messing with Hollywood. More importantly, this has to be recognized for what it is - gayness. What does this say about the Pats this year? However lame this is, something is up. Most importantly - this guy is a good dude, and I don't like to see good people messed with over a whim. -

I have never seen a person miss a point/obfuscate more than you. Wow. Well, as it appears you are focused on process instead of content, and, since I am always inclined to teach rather than ridicule, let's start at the beginning. I will keep it simple I promise. I have no idea who you are. Web boards are built that way - on purpose. These things were originally used for decision support systems=say what you will without being held personally accountable=tell your boss his ideas are crap without being fired. Me baiting you with Ted Kennedy or whatever else is the only way we can possibly hope to glean real info, since simply asking you stuff gives you the opportunity to lie(thinking vs. emotion)=ask The Dean or Alaska Darin cause they do it here all the time. Now, I did get something out of you in terms of where you live. However, none of this really matters - like I said, and you have yet to speak to my point which is: Doing what BB did to Freddie may be a "smart" tactic but it is dishonorable. What say you about that? This time I am asking about content of character not f'ing about with minutia. If you still want to parse words then I am done with you and your posts because you are a waste of time(from our earlier discussions I don't believe that is true). If you can't respond to that one simple point then one of two things are true: 1. You don't know any better and hey - like I said, bless your soul 2. You do know better and you are obfuscating = ducking the question and changing the subject Either way, I would be embarassed if we ever pulled a stunt like this - glad we're not u. -

Y'know I had no doubt about that one word thing for a second - predictable. The rest is what it is. You either understand our you don't. Figure it out for yourself. My point is if you don't get it, you ain't ever gonna get it. Btw, where you live is not who you are, but you walked into that one. If you think that the answer to my post is "I live in NY", man, bless your soul - somebody's got to. -
As always - Sapphire and Tonic. However, if the Bills start to lose I switch to whatever our Backer's bar(a brew pub) has on special. Being drunk is fun, being drunk and angry is not.

Right, but I really don't care what they have to say at this point. Win or lose tomorrow they are lame. That's true and even they know it - so I'm done. We have what's known as honor - they don't. What else is there to say? -
Regardless of the posts so far its a well know fact that most of us "real deal" IT guys(well, enterprise consultants anyway) smoke - so lay off the man. You try to deal with Humans and Computers in the same existence and see how you do. I've tried to quit like no tomorrow but there's always that next project that "pulls me back in". BTW, SDS - if you ever need help, I'm your guy(leave it at that). PM me if you want my contact info. I'm only "allowed" to do design now. But, as all good DBAs/Technical Architects should - I try to keep my hands in. The bastards(my CEO, etc.) are trying to keep me down - even though I'm the founder. Let me know if I can help - from your post it sounds like I can. While on the topic, the site was down earlier in the week for about 40 mins, and yeah, I tested it from multiple servers.

If you have to ask then I am questioning your integrity. Where I come from those are fighting words. But, hey I am sure that you would want to find a way to talk it out being from Ted Kennedy land and all. -

For anyone that cares I figured I would start a thread on our opposite numbers website: Gay crap I apologize to any people that are actually gay, but I'm pissed and PC stuff doesn't apply in this situation. Hollywood Donahoe should be embarassed to say one more word on this website. If s/he does - it just proves all of the points that have been made so far about Patriots fans. GO BILLS!!!!!!!!12 hours and Counting!!!!!! -
I'm going to the Steelers version of a Bills bar tonight to watch the game. If the Dolphins win - I get to laugh at how overblown all this hype was. If the Steelers win - I get to laugh at 150+ pissed off Steeler fans. I win either way Btw, I highly doubt that the Steelers will lose at home to these guys. I don't ever wish for a player to get hurt, but I gotta say I wonder if Culpepper survives this one. It's not like the Pitt D doesn't know they will have to step it up.

Even Pats fans are looking past us!
OCinBuffalo replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ah HA! I see my post was able to draw out the lurkers! Dude, don't play fuggin games with me - do you honestly believe I didn't check your record from 1986-1998 before I posted? Please. Your season records during that time period were bad and you know it. The meager wins you were able to eak out against us had more to do with us making the mistake of looking past you(our goal for the season was the Super Bowl - yours was hoping to beat us in Foxboro) much more than you having a good team. Like I said and will continue to say, it's the beginning of the end and your own words: "the Pats aren't done yet." imply that you already know this is true. Every team in football goes through this. Why do you think you are special? Oh, I know you guys think that somehow it won't happen to you. Kinda like you thought the Bosox were always gonna be good too, huh? Time to grow up and realize that your team is going back to the toilet. And, after a couple years of that, you'll be good again As long as Kraft is in charge I don't see a return to the joke you were in from 1986 - 1998(and yeah don't kid yourself ever since that Bears blowout you guys were a joke). Around 1997 I remember all the National media doing to you what they are doing to us now, sort of. We all knew that you guys were getting better back then but we liked to torture you anyway Honestly, your teams have been fun to watch the last couple of years because of the work ethic and unity(all those guys coming up together) that was obviously there....but that doesn't save you from that core group getting old. This ain't baseball and you can't grab Johnny Damon from KC, Schilling from AZ and the others an manufacture a winning team. I mean come on - Seau? A wide reciever that never broke 3rd string for us? Bark all day little dog you are short on talent this year and even Brady can't help you becuase he doesn't play defense and special teams. Btw, I am merely doing to you what you guys did to us from 1993-7 so don't act like you are being treated unfairly. The posts here clearly prove that in the past you guys have been mostly fair weather fans. The next couple of years, as your team declines, you have the opportunity to prove them wrong! But seriously, at $7.50 a beer and $91 average ticket price how many of you are actually going to go see a 6-10 team? It appears most of here don't think you will, since you haven't in the past. -
There's a bar here in Philly that specializes in all of the low-price(if you can't say anything nice...) beers listed here. I went there Saturday and had myself a fine Genesse Cream Ale, a Natty Light, a Keystone Dry(I still like those) and a slew of PBR. All of them are the finest beers in the land! Nick you have no idea how much better the beer is here than in England. When I was in London I hated all the beer there so much I started drinking wine. <Sarcasm Off> Btw, check out the Crocodile Bar on Chippewa.

Depends: If he thinks the guys are too down then I would have: Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm Too up: It is a mistake to try to look too far ahead. The chain of destiny can only be grasped one link at a time. Scared shi_less/not expecting much from themselves: It's not enough that we do our best; sometimes we have to do what's required. But what I really hope he puts in a big sign is: History will be kind to me for I intend to write it. Winston Churchill was the man - no wonders Marv liked to quote him all the time.
-
I think the rotation concept does two things: 1. It takes the pressure off of each guy in terms of who is starting and who isn't and thereby builds unity. I agree that TA, and everybody, looks a lot more fired up this year. It's not TO cheese fired up - it looks real to me.(Except for Schobel's sack in the Detroit game - TKO - I think - Jumped all over him and he looked like a guy who is being jumped on by the neighbor's dog - he's gotta lighten up a bit) 2. It also allows these guys to pin their ears back because: They don't have to worry about playing the whole game so nothing to hold back endurance wise and, #1 means that they can go all out/take more risks because they know that it won't change much, in terms of playing time, and that the guys around them are going just as hard. As far as Anderson goes - the thing I saw was that this year he seems to be truly having fun out there. Or, at least he looks like he's ready to go and without having to worry about getting "benched" he's really got noting to lose. Obviously this can be a bad thing. But think about it - a 6'3" 304 lb man running around with nothing to lose and a smile on his face? More likely Bad Things, very Bad Things.

Ha! Did you read all of that post? Your own guys are disputing it - what a tool! Maybe I should do some quick math for you. Oh wait! Why bother, I'll just use a quote from your own dopey board: "Also, there were 16 players (30 or older) on the Week 1 2005 Roster. They were Dillon, Flutie, Fauria, Willie, Adam, Vrabel, Troy, Josh Miller, Chad Brown, Don Davis, Izzo, Poole, Chad Scott, Duane Starks, Tedy, and Rodney. This year there are 12 players (30 or older). They are Dillon, Vrabel, Troy, Josh Miller, Don Davis, Izzo, Chad Scott, Faulk, Hawkins, Seau, Tedy, and Rodney." So, we are supposed to be happy that four of your KEY starters are now less old - and that 12 are still over 30 and now one year older? What are u saying again? Looks like the this vaunted D is old and in order to stop that trend you bring in Seau? Great proof of you guys getting younger. Please - dont' bother. It's usually helpful to do the reading before you take the test. Who has the ill founded opinion again? -

Yeah my buddy from highschool. He has been a Steeler fan since we first met and I have been a Bills fan. He "hates"(but respects) the Bills and always will, same with me and the Steelers. He and I gang up on my other friend who has always been a Pats fan. I don't think you're getting it - we don't have a lot of bandwagon folks in upstate regardless of the team in question. My Steelers pal and I go to at least one game a year for our respective teams regardless of how the team is doing because - it's what we do. We tailgate, we get to see family/friends we haven't seen in a while. In WNY, and most of CNY btw, the Bills are part of our culture; not something to be exploited as a tool for sales guys as other NFL teams so obviously are. Of course the attendance goes way down in those cities when the team does poorly because no sales guy in the world wants to be associated with a loser. We have some of that to be sure, but it's not the focus. Can u say the same about the Pats? -

Great reply - when confronted by facts you go monosyllabic. Well keep telling yourself what you want. I'm not saying that we are better - yet. I am saying that your team is old and while it was a good ride - it always ends. Just ask yourself this: why are lots of people on the Pats message board hoping they can get WR and LB off the waiver wire? And, why is it that we don't?
