Seems like a description of every USC QB coming out over the past 20 years. Strange though, I don't remember seeing any of them win a playoff game, let alone start in a SB. USC QBs always generate a lot of sizzle, but the bottom line, more fizzle and no steak. Johnson, Palmer, Sarkesian, Leinart, Sanchez :thumbdown: . Barkely will be no different.

It doesn't make the Bills weaker at the position. But, it certainly doesn't make them stronger at the position either, and if it does it aint saying much because they have s#it to start with. As for the 13M figure. We don't know the particulars yet. The Bills are not paying a backup 13M over 2 years. But, I'm betting that all bets are off if he isn't a starter and I also believe it is tied to the number of starts because of his injury history. He is not going to be the Bills starter. The starter will be selected @ #8 in the draft. Bills are taking a mulligan this year and doing so with a rookie QB, not a retread that has no upside.

Prett much agree. I would classify Drew Brees and Tom Brady as "blue collar". Their mesureables are no where near elite. But what they lack in those they more than make up for it by putting more time into it and working harder at the finer details of the game. You can have all the potential in the world and high end measureables, but you'll go nowhere if you won't put the time into the game on the cerebral end. That's what separates Nassib from the rest.

Nuttin scares me... I know what not to expect. Nuttin inspires me... there is no reason Just a wait and see and by October we'll see where we are.

I agree Kolb is mediocre... but that is only when he actually plays... which won't ever be for a full season. The statement that Nassib is a lesser talent simply isn't even close to reality. He's top of the class. What everyone looks at are all of the measureables. All the stuff that adds up to potential but hardly ever do they consider what's between the ears... the one ingrediant that is the difference maker. No qb in this draft or on the Bills roster will out work or out study Nassib. When they're out partying, playing golf, or walking the mall, Nassib will be working out and studying film. That's who he is. The only thing Nassib needs is to adjust to the speed of the game. The rest he'll grasp because he'll put the time in. In a couple of years you'll see what Drew Brees looks like at 6'2" and thicker.

Happy Easter to all. So, I wake up to the Kolb news. No big deal. He won't play much, which is a good thing for both the bills and kolb. He's been rode hard and put away wet. So, relax folks, the Bills know he's one hit away from retirement, so they aren't putting all their easter eggs in one basket. This move serves two purposes. 1) Keeps other teams focus away from the Bills taking a qb at #8. 2) Makes it a lock the Bills take Nassib at #8. (Hey... they need a qb that's all about the "W" can take a hit and shrug it off)

Not saying Dansby isn't a good player. Its just that at his age and what he'll command for a salary and the reality that he would only be a Bill for a couple of years, why do that for a team that is probably a 4-6 win team in 13. A team to be said to be building through the draft and with players like Byrd, Wood, Spiller to re-sign. Draft a LB and plug him in. Bills youngens didn't learn a whole lot from Barnett, Mario, and Anderson last year. And I suspect they wouldn't get a lot from Dansby either Dansby belongs on a contender to get full value not a perennial doormat.

And that is even if Smith is there at #8. No way do the Bills see a qb that worked exclusively out of the shotgun and spread a fit for their offense.

Every player you mention, with the exception of DHB is either on the wrong side of 30 (and some by a lot) or coming off a serious injury. So, what is to be gained by signing any of them right now? It is a QB driven league, and right now the Bills DO NOT have one of those. When the Bills draft their QB, he's gonna start right out of the gate. Now, if you are expecting the Bills to make the playoffs, you need to change those expectations pronto... and by a lot. They will be fortunate to win 5 games... anything more is gravy, any less, not really disturbing. This belief that the Bills have talent is a bit misguided. aside from about 9 or 10 of the 22 starting positions, they really do not have a lot of talent. And, bringing aged and old talent is not going to help them rebuild and get better. They need young, fresh, and fast legs. Just by observing the way the Bills have approached this offseason, it is clear they are in a rebuilding stage again. That was clear the moment they let Fitz go without having a better option. Because of that, they're not even 100% sure their guy at QB is going to be their at #8... so they don't know who their QB is really going to be. Free agents see that and are not turned on by that. And, I have a hunch, if their guy is gone by #8, they will probably trade out and get more picks (unless there's a major talent that falls to them at another position) and not take a QB until round 3 or 4. They'll bite the bullet, gut out the season with TJax, bringing their 3rd/4th rd. QB along, and at some point might even give him a few starts. But a 3rd/4th rd rookie aint gonna be the Bills franchise QB... If they their guy aint there at #8, they'll hop on the franchise QB merry go round next year again, and probably end up with a top 6 choice. So, what you should expect of the Bills in free agency is probably about 15 rookie free agents after the draft concludes. And I don't see the Bills signing more than 1, maybe 2 NFL free agents, if at all.

In 2009 the Dallas Cowboys drafted 12 players. When Victor Butler was signed by the Saints earlier this week, that left the Cowboys with zero (0) players on their roster from that draft. Yep, 12 draft pix and after 3 seasons..... nothing to show for from that draft. Jerry Jones may want to fire coaches, but he might want to look straight at himself as President and GM.

So, if I understand correctly, you are an advocate for gambling the #8 pick on a qb that Kiper says is a 2nd rounder, Cosell says is a 1st rounder, Brandt now says is a 2nd rounder, and Mayock says is a late 1st rounder? And, if he flops it's ok, the Bills can draft Manziel next year? Wow. That's a big time gamble considering anything and everything possible that could happen. Have you ever had a job which requires critical thinking and critical decisions which could cost you not just your job, but your career?

He may not be there to evaluate talent. He may be there for many reasons... 1 - Learning 2 - Meet and greet with UT folks 3- Get his own sense of Bray's character. ( one doesn't need to be a football scout to see that) 4 - showing his own passion and supporting his football guys. 5 - Trusting his guys but ensuring they're on track and following up on the process that has been layed out

Because he can. He is the man in charge. Bills are likely going to select their QB of the future in about 4 weeks. I'd say that's a big decision to make...especially considering the pundits/scouts are said to not have a cear cut favorite. Is there a reason you believe he should not be there?

Levitre is not an elite guard. His is a good pass blocker (not great) and a good pulling guard. He is not a bad run blocker, but he's not a great one either. He gets overpowered a lot of times. He may be above average overall, but he's not in the Logan Mankins stratosphere. Levitre does, or should get points for not missing a game in four seasons and versatility

According to NFL.com, the Bills have close to $17m in cap room right now. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000154634/article/remaining-salarycap-space-for-each-nfl-team However, nearly $10m was rolled from last year... which means they are at 94% spend of the $121m cap. I'm not clear what they are going to do with the $10m rollover from last year... maybe offer 2-4 FAs a guaranteed one year deal or maybe restructure a couple of current player deals in order to move money into the 2013 cap to take the hit now.

Perhaps not. But, I don't believe that to be the Bills motivation. They need to grab the right guy right now that fits with the team, the WNY community and the offense. What I mean by that is WNY is "blue collar", the team is "blue collar", and the offensive playbook is probably ready and the QB must step in as a starter on day one. The Bills cannot go with Jax as the starter. Judging from the many posts, everyone has their favorites, whether it's fact, philosophical, logical, or emmotion based; and it comes down to Smith, Barkley and Nassib primarily that the fans are split between. If you look at the fit and the offense, two of the three will have a longer learning curve, just from the terminology perspective. In addition, one of them, because they worked exclusivly out of the shotgun and spread offense will have a steeper learning curve having to learn to play under center, learn 3-5 step drops as well as the terminolgy... that QB will probably have to sit a year to get acclimated. In terms of the "blue collar" image, there's really only one. That's obvious. Then, when you look at the Bills past success with California QBs, it aint pretty. Johnson, Losman, and Edwards did not do well. The California guys seem to come highly publicized and touted and the fans seem to have less patience and acceptance of them, especially when they falter. Buffalo is probably the harshest weather venue in the NFL. Wind, rain, snow, ice is on the table from mid October on. When you come from an environment in which you don't experience that, it's an added adjustment. I don't mean just playing. I mean, cleaning the snow off your car, walking in it, shoveing it, your hands freezing, that is an adjustment. So who fits best and is in the best position to take over day one and forward of that as well? I see one candidate that is a spot on hit. I see two candidates that are more projections... a belief that they could, or might, be a fit, but, it is not as clear and as sure fire... and a mistake in the selection could set the Bills back two years or more. So, at #8, in the Bills situation, you don't gamble or "project" what the player will be... you have to know what he is. The Bills know who that is right now. They are just doing their due dillegence and validate it... ticket sales be damned... They'll let the marketing guys worry about the koolaid.
