  1. holy cap space. Browns, Bengals and Jags have a boat load of space. How do they get to the 90% spend level between now and Sept.?
  2. You're kidding, right? One game a year it's windy or nasty? If that's the case, why does a team select the West endzone to defend about 90% of the time? In the AFC East you still have to travel to NY and NE plus you have the potential for Philly, Pitt, Cinn, Clev, Balt. Then, you get in to January for the potential of playoffs in several of those venues plus Buffalo. And, I'll bet you can count the games over the past four years on one hand that Barkley did not play in sunshine. And, I'd doubt it if he ever played a game in <45 degrees, if that. USC QBs are used to playing in sunshine, being surrounded by pro players, being a top 10 team every year. But, when they get to the NFL they never quite seem to take it to the next level, because they've never had to. They've been superior athletically to most of the teams they play. Then they see the playing field is leveled in the NFL, for the most part, and they can't handle that. Throw the Buffalo fans and the Buffalo weather into the mix and you've got an environment for him not to succeed. To you or me, once mid October hits, playing in weather 45-55 degrees is nothing, in November, 40-50 is nothing, in December, 30-45 is nothing, but to a California dude who always played in sunshine, it's miserable, and they can't function mentally or physically. Brady was a California guy, but he spent four seasons in Ann Arbor plus one in NE before he tookover the reins, so he acclimated himself for 5 years . Barkley aint a fit in any way in Buffalo, if the Bills are stupid enough to draft him, you will bear witness to that. And why, oh why, would the Bills draft a QB high that just had a serious shoulder separation and not even completely healed?
  3. Uh, before Nassib, McNabb was the only cuse QB worthy of drafting. Nassib is the only really good QB they've had since then.
  4. Uh... Ponder was drafted #12 two yrs ago. There are at least 3 QBs in this draft that are better than him. Most of the mocks have the Bills taking a QB at 41. Yes, a few have them going QB at #8. In the year of the "no QB", you will see 4 come off the board in rd. 1
  5. No... the Bills take a QB at #8 regardless. Jets are in total rebuild. They are taking the mulligan this year. They may draft a QB rd. 3 on, but their franchise guy is drafted next year. They still have Sanchez & Garrard to get them through the year. Ya gotta look at the Jets roster. They lost both starting guards and RT is a mess. Basically McKnight at RB and they still need a starting wr. On D they lost starters at both safeties, plus Revis,Pouha,&Devito. That's 5 starters from opening day last year.
  6. Nope... he's a 3 downer. Not outstanding in coverage, but definitely no slouch. He is quite outspoken and had several disagreements with the Miami DC last season.
  7. Petrino coached Redmond for a short time. Fairbanks coached Mildren at Okla and NE, but he converted him to safety cuz he was a wishbone qb at okla. Fairbanks also brought nt sugarbear hamilton with him. Chip Kelly just brought in his former qb Dennis Dixon. Coughlin brought in his son in law Chris Snee ( he didn't coach him at BC though). In general, college coaches don't fare well in the NFL... and especially not if they have no NFL experience, I'm not sure, but I thought Spurrier might have brought in one of his qbs from Fla. when he coached the skins. Coughlin and Caroll have solid NFL roots, as does Marrone. And, although Harbaugh didn't have NFL coaching experience, he did have a long NFL career and a father who coached in the NFL for a long time. Schiano also had a short stint in the NFL.
  8. Well, coming on the heels of last week's 3 day team workout, it doesn't seem to bode well for Shep, White, or Moats.
  9. 1) you are correct. Marrone did not recruit Nassib. Nassib was a red shirt freshman when Marrone arrived at cuse. Marrone could have brought in his own guy, but didn't. That speaks volumes about Nassib. 2) If you believe that Nassib overachieved at cuse driving a Ford Focus and in the same sentence you believe he's maxed out, how can that be? If he can exceed expectations in a Ford Focus, how is it possible that he can do the the same or worse driving Lamborghini? If anyone is maxed out, wouldn't it be Barkley? He's surrounded by pros. He's been driving a Lamborghini for 4 years. Stepping into the pro realm is almost a lateral move for him. Did he underachieve or overachieve? Where's the upside?
  10. 1) aint no cuse wr with deep speed 2) cuse oline couldn't pass protect for more than 3 sec 3) knock on brady his first three years as a starter in the nfl was that he couldn't throw deep. Any questions on that now? 4) Marrone has the intel on Nassib... and trust me, he knows he can, and will, go deep given the horses around him. He heaved the seed 61 yds. In a qb competition. Thats 5 yds less than Manual, who supposedly has a canon for an arm.
  11. Kiffen is a joke. Agreed. And so are his QBs... Leinart, Booty, and now Barkley. Barkley had an A list oline, a 1st rd. WR this year, a top 10 WR next year. What's to B word or make excuses for? If he had all that talent and there are still that many questions about him then something aint adding up. There's damn good reason to question his arm strength, which was marginal before he got hurt. His arm doesn't magically get stronger after a shoulder injury lkke that.
  12. Who's saying they can't decide between Nassib & Wilson? The Bills have inside intel on Nassib that no other team on the planet has. Either way, make no mistake, they have no problem deciding between the two. Their choice is clear.
  13. All cleared up. Now we know why Barkley regressed in his senior season. It was they play calling. Kind of a passive aggressive way to toss the boss under the bus and exhonerate himself of culpability. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000162242/article/matt-barkley-uscs-playcalling-got-too-predictable
  14. Can a player given the franchise tag and signing the tender be traded before the trade deadline? If so, that's when teams will have an interest for a third rounder.
  15. Well, if they're publically coming out with their game plan a few days before the draft, does anyone truly believe this is the plan? If you do, then I've own bridges in Brooklyn and Niagara Falls that I will sell you for pennies on the dollar.
  16. The offense was changed two weeks before the season. The problem wasn't Nassib... it was the lack of talent around him. He was on a different level... it took half the season for the rest of the offense to catch up to him and what they were doing. Once Pugh, his LT, got back after midseason and protected Nassib's blind side, that's when Nassib was at his best.
  17. Problem is that you are looking at Nassib only. Look at the top 5 QBs... which Nassib is included. Now look at the talent each is surrounded by. Which QB had the least talent? Nassib wins out big time. You won't find any A listers around him and only one B lister. He played with a 250 lb. Center, receivers that had 4.7 speed, 3 different running backs, all of which missed games due to injury. Played w/o his LT Pugh for half the season. He ran the attack he ran out of necessity. He didn't have the horses to run this this so called "K" gun attack you mention, which was called the "K" gun, not because of Jim Kelly, but was actually named that because of Keith McKeller, a TE that could get down the seam...opening things up for Thermal and the guys in the slot and outside. Hackett never ran a K gun. He didn't have a TE that could get more than 15 yds. Downfield, let alone 30 yds. Hackett ran a dink and dunk west coast offense with twists. There was no home run threat for Nassib and Hackett. A lot of throws were into tight windows. It had to ne that way and it couldn't have happened w/o a qb that had a quick mind, quick release, and was a coach on the field. Just to give you an example of the dropoff at QB behind Nassib. Charlie Loeb was his backup for 3 years and should have been the starter this coming season. He has a powerful arm, yet he got beat out by a soph this spring and is likely to be a #3 come Sept. Lastly... look at the careers of Jake Locker selected @ #8 in 2011 and Ryan Tannehill selected #8 in 2012. Nassib's blows their numbers away... even though he had nowhere near the talent around him those other two had. So... how far fetched would it be to see Nassib selected at #8 this year?
  18. Well, Revis is a top 5 CB coming off an ACL. The Bucs just gave up 2 draft picks (one of them the 13th in this year's draft) and $16m/year over 6 years. If Byrd is a top 5 safety, where is the love for him? I mean, he's only gonna want a about half of what Revis got and he aint damaged goods. And, if the Bills were offered the 31st pick in the draft, I believe they'd be ecstatic.... but it aint happening. Why? Maybe because Byrd ain't anywhere near as good as Bills fans believe. He was part and parcel of some of the worst Bills defense over the past four years. Yeah, he had company, but he was a part of it. So, if he's so good, why were the defenses he was on so bad? Jets were still a top 10 defense without Revis. Bills will still be a top 27 defense without Byrd. If Byrd is such an impact player... where was the impact?
  19. Every year around this time a lot of fans get jacked over nothing. What matters is on the field. You're damn right the Bills gotta prove it, regardless if they select Nassib, Tuel, Scott or whoever. No one called foul when Chip Kelly reunited with one of his own, Dennis Dixon. No one cried foul when Miami's head coach trusted his OC Mike McCarthy to provide the truth and then selected Tannehill. Belichick had Testeverde in Cleavland and later brought him to NE. Parcells had C Martin in NE and brought him to the Jets. Parcells had Bledsoe in NE and brought him to Dallas. Rex Ryan brought a few Ravens with him to the Jets. The point is that once a coach has confidence and trust in a player, they believe in them and they know what they are getting. I also read quite a few posts that disparage Marrone because he was a a college coach... a college coach that played and coached in NFL as both a position coach and as a coordinator. Yet, Chip Kelly, a college head coach with zero playing or coaching experience in the NFL is not disparaged. Why should Kelly be respected as an NFL HC more than Marrone? If the Bills select Nassib at #8, it's because they know a hell of a lot more than you, me, or the pundits. And if they don't select Nassib, they still know a lot more than you, me, or the pundits. And yeah... they are putting their asses on the line. So what? Didn't the FO put their asses on the line when they selected Losman,McCargo, Whitner, McKelvin, Maybin & Spiller. What do you want them to do at #8... select Patterson, a one year wonder like Maybin vs. Nassib who has a 4 year body of work with his HC?
  20. Really? I can think of 3 right off the top of my head.
  21. You are damn spot on. It's about "fit" for the team that is drafting him. No one seems to get that. There are QBs that have outrageously strong arms or incredible athletic ability. And every time I see that brought up, I think of Jamarcus Russell, Vince Young, JP Losman, and Heath Schuler.
  22. No, I mean if they pass on Nassib at #8, Marrone & co. know more than we do and there is a reason for not selecting him at #8. If Nassib is still there at 41... 1) I'll eat my shorts, and 2) if the Bills don't select him at that point, it would reaffirm that Marrone doesn't believe in him. And, yeah, I'm OK with that. I won't Monday morning QB if Nassib goes somewhere else unless he turns out to be a top 12 QB. If that happens, you know it and I know it... if the Bills QB ain't ranked as high, then this whoile board is gonna go "Nancy Grace". I'll throw out another consideration.... and there are many. Drew Brees is getting long in the tooth, and would it really be a surprise if he got past #8, for the saints to make a maneuver if he's there early second round?
  23. But as far as strictly QBs, he's ranked anywhere from #1 to #6
  24. Sorry, but Byrd hasn't even had an offer, nor have there been any reports of any teams having any interest in Byrd. So, what would motivate any team to give up a high draft pick (or multiple picks) to the Bills, and additionally, get the privilege of paying in the $8-9M range for a "soft safety" who is a marginal all pro, and that only depending what top NFL safeties are not able to play in the pro bowl? There is absolutely no motivation for a team to do that. Byrd is here for a year and he'll move on. The bottom line is a lot of Bills fans think Byrd is way better than he really is.
