  1. Ken Lay voted for Kerry hoping for a last day pardon
  2. Since I don't believe in Armageddon I wouldn't ever say Bush is hastening Armageddon. What I did say is that Bush surrounds himself with people who more or less agree with him that it's not such a bad thing to hasten something they believe in. That's why I referred to it as a mentality, because you can't hasten something that isn't going to happen, but you can believe you will.
  3. Willis has "it", the aura of a star player who basically says get on my back & ride with me. We have only seen the surface of this so far, but just watching him in person compared to your good backs, like Travis, you get a different feel. He seems to have a great instinct for using his blockers and is big enough to drag most 1 on 1 defenders a few extra yards. You don't coach this type of feel for the game. We've got a real superstar here, exactly why TD picked him. The stats don't tell the story & don't say it's only 2 games, because when you see the raw ability, vision & feel for the game you just imagine what he will be like when he gets his entire speed back and realize that we've got a player who could be better than Thurman.
  4. Reagan was a lot more pragmatic when it came to risking American lives. He would never had gotten us into the post "mission accomplished" mess where the majority of deaths have occurred. Reagan didn't have the Armageddon is just around the corner so lets hasten its arrival mentality that some of the Bush people appear to have.
  5. In Detroit. Ralph will win it in his hometown. Petrino & I are planning on driving there.
  6. If TD was dead set on getting a QB, he could have just drafted JP at pick 13 & picked up a receiver elsewhere. He could have even traded down within the top 20 & still picked JP. I've always viewed the QB spot as more important than WR & instead of giving Dallas our 2004 #1, I would have drafted JP 1st instead of Evans (I actually did in my own draft on draft day) The way I've always looked at it, Lee Evans is the one who better be something special, because they didn't have to give Dallas the picks if they weren't dead set on Evans.
  7. Other than throwing $5 into a pool we have at work I won't be risking any $ on these picks, but here they are: Distaff: 3) Tamweel (15-1) She’ll be trying to go wire to wire, if this is the speed favoring track that it’s advertised to be she makes it. 10) Island Fashion (5-1) Last winter’s form puts her right there. Last was just a tune-up for this and she still won. 1) Ashado (7-2) She’s the best of the 3yos. Juvenile Fillies: 5) Cullinary (12-1) She’s 2 for 2 including an ass kicking of Alcibiades winner Runaway Model, class edge on this field. 1) Balletto (5-1) Frizette winner gets Bailey and the rail. 9) Sense of Style (7-2) Only member of this group with Beyers above 90. Mile (Turf) 6) Artie Schiller (12-1) –Score one for the Americans on Turf. Only loss on the grass this year is to the world’s best turf horse, Kitten’s Joy. 1) Whipper (8-1) Not the most consistent horse arouind, but he beat last year’s winner, Six Perfections two back in France. 8) Diamond Green (20-1) Finished ahead of second choice in last but hasn’t won a race this year. Sprint 3) Champali (12-1) I pity the fool who doesn’t have this horse, who will stalk behind the speed of Speightstown & wear him down. 2) Speightstown (3-1) He’ll be winging it for as far as he goes, but won’t be able to withstand the final punch of Champali 5) Kela (8-1) He figures to be way back in the early going on this speed favoring track, Bailey will have to work a miracle to get him up at the wire. Filly & Mare Turf 5) Ouija Board (8/5) Chose this race over the Turf and figures to dominate this group. The day’s surest thing. 10) Megahertz (10-1) Looks like a good fit at the distance in a race that is strictly for 2nd place to Ouija Board. 3) Film Maker (20-1) Because I have to pick someone for 3rd. Juvenile 2) Roman Ruler (8/5) Fastest horse, best horse, winner. 6) Proud Accolade (5/2) Unbeaten Champaign winner is the main threat. 3) Afleet Alex (7-2) Ran one of the wildest taces seen at this past Saratoga meet, but his only loss is to Proud Accolade. Turf 4) Kitten’s Joy (even) An absolute monster who has scared off a lot of the competition here. Second US victory against the Europeans on the grass. 1) Powerscourt (3-1) Will get some revenge for his DQ this summer at Arlington 6) Magistretti ( 4-1) 2nd to top choice in last, 3rd to 2nd choice 3 back. Classic 5) Perfect Drift (15-1) 3rd time is the charm for the horse I picked 2 years ago when he finished 12th. If he runs next year I’ll pick him again. 12) Pleasantly Perfect (5-2) Favored to repeat last year’s win but is hampered by an outside post. 1) Ghostzapper (3-1) Will try to wire the field, but has never been tested this far. 8) Personal Rush (50-1) Improving 3yo from Japan is the unknown factor here.
  8. Who is Graham? Are you saying your grandmother is more mobile than Drew?
  9. All GMs make mistakes, but the one that hurts us next year was the restructuring of Drew & the signing bonus that hurts us in future years. The best part of taking on Drew's NE contract was that if we left it alone it gave us time to evaluate Drew this season & activate the buyout on November 1st. Instead, TD gave him more $ and puts dead space on next year's cap (& possibly 2006 cap if we mitigate it with a 6/2/05 release) When we drafted JP, we had 2 viable options that gave us nothing bad on the cap: Release Drew & take a $0 cap hit. Keep Drew this year & buy him out in November-he would still finish the season under the terms of the contract -the only thing is we'd have to save $2 million on the cap during the season to do it. Instead TD took the shortest sighted thing & restructured the contract. Does anyone think Drew will be back in 2005? Now after the first paragraph, I'm going to defend TD against those who want to fire him. TD has made some bold moves which could very well pay off in 2005. If McGahee gets any more speed back, which he probably will, we're looking at a genuine superstar who TD got at pick 23. Anyone who sees the way he carries tacklers ought to be impressed, & he's still not 100%! If Losman is as good as many of us think, he'll be here for the next decade. TD's 1st draft was excellent, yielding hits on his 1st 5 picks. Now everyone would have done some things differently than TD, but he hasn't been afraid to draft for the future. Personally, I would have drafted McKinnie instead of Fat Mike, & picked up Anthony Weaver instead of Josh "hands" Reed. I also would have taken JP at 13 instead of trading away the picks & found a speed receiver through other means. But overall I think next season will be a great one & all this fire TD talk will be over & done with when he gets a major extension.
  10. Babe must have had a bad beer experience in St. Louis because with the baserunning blunder the Cardinals just made they have to be jinxed worse than the Red Sox. Any team named the Cardinals is the enemy this week!
  11. I served on a Grand Jury in Albany County this Spring. We served for 8 Fridays (plus an additional day) . There was no mandatory attendance if they had 16 of about 23 or 24 of us there. Some people just blew it off week after week. When we didn't have 16 bya little after 9am, they started calling the people who had not signed off the day (they allowed some leeway for people who needed a day or 2 off if they gave advanced notice since we were there around Easter time). One day, week 6 or so, we didn't have 16 yet and they rounded up one of the missing jurors and when he arrived, about 1/2 the jury started asking why this stranger had joined us. He hadn't been there since we were chosen! In Albany, they don't enforce Grand Jury duty very well. Since I was getting paid and parked in my usual spot since I work 2 blocks from the courthouse, I was happy to attend all 8 weeks and the extra day, which was because after a 1.5 hour wait one of our sessions was cancelled because we only had 15.
  12. If you're going to mock Drew's name get it right: It's DEADSLOW, not Deadsoe
  13. But he was the guy who ended the Lambeau mystique in the playoffs his sophomore year
  14. Yes, a second year QB can be very successful, even win a Super Bowl without playing a down his rookie year. Here are some recent success stories: Brady-won SB, Culpepper-got team to NFC championship game, Vick, & this year Leftwich. Next season JP can lead us to the Super Bowl with weapons such as Evans, McGahee, Moulds etc. Those of us calling for JP don't think he's the panacea for this year's team, but get him some snaps & he might just lead us to a championship with a few bold FA moves by TD before next year.
  15. You left out Josh Reed who had a hat trick of dropped passes.
  16. It's absolutely true, he said it in the post game interview, no stevestojan!
  17. He said the refs blew a pass interference call on Ray Lewis, so he threw it waiting for the refs call. Drew: This ain't New England where they'll just give it to you. What a sorry excuse for that int. JP, JP, JP
  18. So Miami is going to just give us the 1st pick in the whole draft for Travis Henry. Henry's agent is at it again. The only way Miami would have made that trade is if Ralph & TD had some compromising photos of Wayne Huizenga.
  19. I can't see Travis here beyond this season because he is scheduled to be a free agent after 2005 & I can't see any responsible agent telling him to sign an extension with the Bills. From the Bills point of view, they have to trade him this offseason in order to get anything back for him. From TH's part, any trade would include a contract extension at #1 RB $. He's more likely to be playing next season with a nice signing bonus in his pocket from his new team.
  20. http://interestalert.com/brand/siteia.shtm...Late%20Breaking
  21. I didn't catch it when he did it, but they replayed it on the scoreboard & my first reaction was he made me laugh so hard the 15 yards were worth it.
  22. Brady is the QB who one can truly say JUST WINS
  23. OUCH! I'm agreeing with the Cons! If you are too stupid to find out where you vote, maybe you shouldn't be voting. I've moved a few times & at it's been pretty easy for me to find out where the voting is being held. Unless you're voting in a town that moves your polling place & doesn't notify you of the move, you really have no excuse. If you're not sure a simple phone call before election day will get you the answer. The last time my voting place was changed (this year) the town sent me a postcard telling me it was moved from Town Hall to the library, no problem.
  24. First off, I know nothing about mechanical things, including cars, but I've had something similar when the clutch went on my standard transmission on a 1986 Mazda. When the clutch is slipping, the engine revs with no acceleration. I imagine if the car has an auto transmission, the equivalent of a slipping clutch would do the same thing.
  25. The curse is falling upon the Bosox big time. 1st Ump blows call at 2nd base. Now Sheffield Ks & makes it to 1st. 13th inning man -bad news (for Boston)
