  1. Signing Dansby will allow them to go QB, WR or G (if we trade down) or dare I say TE (assuming trade down again) in the first. Means they won't feel the pressure to go LB (which was where I thought they shoud go) unless Jordan mysteriously and wonderfully drops to us. Dansby is a legit starting ILB who can teach Shep and Bradham so they're ready to take over in a year or two. Smart signing if we can make the deal work.
  2. Agreed. BUT the Jets have a lot tied up in Sanchez and might (rightfully) believe that if they don't f-up his head (like they have in the past) there's a chance he might still turn out to be their franchise QB. In regard to this year, let the Jets and everyone else waste picks on players who ARE NOT the BPAs (I.e., QBs). Barring a trade down, I'd love to go defense (OLB), WR, TE, defense ILB) and then developmental QB and then O-line. Outmaneuver us for low value, high risk players, please!! Jets will probably go OLB and then CB (to replace Revis--Wilson ain't the man) or WR. They can grab the QB and out maneuver us in round two when they already pick before us. No need to do so in round one. IMHO (which is of relatively little value).
  3. Trade back for Ogletree (he's the only impact ILB) and score an extra 3rd to use on another OLB or TE or to move back into the bottom of the first if they have a hard on for a QB.
  4. Go back and look at the Jets' past rosters with Ryan and Pettine and please tell me where you find the big name safeties except from their brief lucky grab of Laron Landry for all of a year. The defensive scheme made due with lesser talents at S. The one thing they always did was get pressure on the QB and they did so because they were able to put Revis and Cromartie out there (especially thanks to Revis Island and Cromartie held his own this year). The Jets' safeties during Ryan's reign were not the key to their success (serviceable at best and we have that AT LEAST--Byrd actually gives us more IMHO--remember, Laron Landry was there for one year and he was so essential to the Jets' success they let him go). Searcy needs to step up and might thrive with Pettine. I'm sure, as others have said, they have some plans on how to use Aaron Williams who projected as a potential talent at safety coming out of Texas. Just say no to safety in the 1st. Not sure we're OK at CB but the resigning of "McLovin" makes me think they feel good there. Load up on LBers and grab a WR early. You should be talking TE before safety for crying out loud! Draft a developmental QB and take your safety in the 6th--say hello to Cooper Taylor: http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1619598/cooper-taylor. I'm intrigued by that write up and some other buzz.
  5. He could be a poor man's Danario Alexander who is healthy. 6'6" and 225 lbs--showed flashes when given a chance this year--I realize the guy ain't an all-pro but what have we got to lose? He's young, cheap and has size (Buddy wake up from your nap this guy might be "open when he's covered"). We need lots of competition at WR.
  6. Here's an article in which spinal stenosis and Jarvis Jones and the NFL is discussed by a top doc from Mt. Sinai Hospital. Interesting read: http://www.austinchronicle.com/blogs/sports/2013-01-23/the-nfl-beat-spinal-stenosis/ I'm now more concerned about the article citing his lack of work ethic.
  7. No WR at 8. Plenty of quality WRs to be had between the 2 & 3 at our spot (e.g., Woods ((I hope!)), Wheaton, Patton, Hunter and more). Need to go BPA and that will be a LB which also happens to be a position of dire need (no QB talk please!). Win-win for us.
  8. Not gonna make it to us in the 3rd. His Pro Day performance solidified his position in the 2nd according to the impression he made on the so-called experts. I think he was under the radar as much as a top 5 WR can be (perhaps not under the radar but rather temporarily out of the spotlight). With everyone being obsessed with the weak QB class everyone showed up to see Barkley (and to tear him down) and then watched Woods and remembered how good he is. From what I've read, he is a polished, talented WR who is NFL ready. Might not be a #1 WR but will be a VERY good #2. If we get our impact LB in the 1st, I would be happy with Woods in the 2nd (I'm one of those stupid people who think we should draft a developmental QB, if at all this year--I'd love a field stretching TE in the 3rd and would follow that up with another LB). But I'm no expert, just a guy who reads a lot and watches some YouTube videos---no shame in admitting that!
  9. There were limited options especially with this current class of QBs. Kolb will not end up costing us much and we didn't have to surrender any picks which was key! Kolb ain't gonna do much (probably a notch above Fitz and with Marrone a bit more of a boost) but what he will do is to enable us to draft value and hold the fort until we find the QB of the future. I would personally not be offended if we wait until next year to draft a QB and stock up on a top LB, WR and TE with our first three picks. That's what having Kolb can allow us to do (if Fitz stayed and tried the new off. we might have been OK too but Kolb being a new "flavor" gives them some slack they might not have had with Fitz).
  10. I would enjoy that very much, however, I have a feeling that Matt Scott will not make it past Chip Kelly in the 3rd. 5th round is Zac Dysert territory.
  11. Wait til next year for a QB and load up on more talent--if Dion Jordan is there grab him or Jarvis Jones (if they think the film means more than his Pro Day workout) if not trade back a bit and take Ogletree (I trust Marrone and Pettine to be able to keep him in line based on how their former players felt about them and he's head and shoulders above the other ILBs), grab Woods, Hunter or another legit WR in the second, McDonald/Escobar/Kelce or another legit TE in the third, then another OLB in tbe fourth (Jamie Collins/Sio Moore/Brandon Jenkins)), Guard or CB in the fifth and then BPA. Load up on low risk, value talent. I mean really, the new regime will be overhauling the team for a few years before we're competitive so would it be crazy to forego a potential bust at QB this year and to wait for next year's crop (we'll still be drafting high!!). If they're going to take a QB this year, I think Kolb (at worst a mediocre starter) enables us to wait until the third and gamble on Scott or Bray. The new regime is changing the culture of the team, we're headed in the right direction (once Buddy is gone too!).
  12. So, where do we go from here? Even if Chandler is healthy, we need a TE who can stretch the field. I don't see one available in FA so we're gonna have to draft one and because there are more pressing needs (QB, WR, 2 quality LBs, G?) we'll have to wait to draft one later--perhaps, in the 5th. Davis was a risk (not gonna debate that here, we did that at great length in another thread) but the upside was BIG and he settled on a one year deal so even if it didn't work out it was only a one and done. If Chandler isn't 100% we're REALLY weak at TE which means our weak WRs will be less effective and defenses can focus on neutralizing Spiller. Domino effect...
  13. Matt Scott write up is intriguing. Is it worth taking him in the 3rd after picking up value picks at LB and WR (in no particular order). I wish he lasted until the 4th because I think that would be a great spot to take him. A taller Russell Wilson in the 3rd or 4th is better than a flop in the 1st.
  14. Greg Ellis: "nine games into the 2006 season, Ellis tore his Achilles tendon, one of the most debilitating of all injuries for a football player. Even Ellis doubted his comeback at times." He was voted the Associated Press 2007 NFL Comeback Player of the Year after a 12 1/2 sack season. He was in his 10th season at the time of his injury (and was 31 yrs old)--post-op he played until 2010 (most players don't sniff that many years in the NFL). Guess the naysayers would have passed on AP after his injury and wouldn't have waited to see what the experts (i.e., medical professionals) had to say. Not saying that Davis is OK and will be fine for all I know he might be shot--that said, my point is merely not to rush to judgment. Everyone recovers from surgery differently--there is no guarantee one way or another (I'm a year removed from double spinal fusion and still hurtin'--other patients are jogging). Davis is young (27) and medical technology improves every day--maybe Davis can come back and perform at a high level or maybe he can't. What's wrong with waiting instead of hating (that was a BAD pun, sorry!).
  15. There have been players who have come back from achilles' injuries and others who haven't (as medical technology increases so too does the return rate of pro athletes from injuries that used to be career ending). The Bills medical staff will put in their due diligence in assessing whether or not Davis is one of those guys who can return. Until we hear from an orthopedic specialist who has examined Davis and his MRIs, etc... none of us can do anything but speculate. If he is one of thos guys who can return and perform, he is clearly a good signing.
  16. Fred Davis has allegedly been medically cleared. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/02/26/fred-davis-gets-medical-clearance/. With injuries and football in general, there's always a risk so take one with a big upside. When healthy this guy can stretch the field as well as any TE in the game which is a dimension we don't have (though you can argue that TJ Graham already provides us with that skill and as an added bonus he also is great at dropping passes!). He's a top 10 TE who has the talent to be even better. People should be thankful the Bills are going after him instead of Chris.Cooley, Dallas Clark or Travis Beckum, etc... He's a 1st tier FA. Settle down, folks! PS. It also frees up a draft pick for another position. And this guy is young so he could be here for years, he's not a one or two year rental.
  17. NFLN reports the Fitz contract with the Titans at two years $3.25 million...
  18. The Pats were concerned about his behavir-guy might have issues. Better be careful: http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/449/brandon-lloyd Ramses, Ramses, Ramses--6'6" and has lots of mileage left on him and he's open when he's covered, Buddy! Sure he's cheap too so we can also sign an OL, TE and a LB. We're done. All 2nd tier talent yippee!
  19. Don't forget--on a related note--we also need a TE because Chandler is coming off an injury. Regardless, it would be nice to have a TE who can stretch the field. We have more holes to fill than a porn star!!!
  20. We have no money to make a splash. I'm back on the Ramses Barden bandwagon--fits Buddy's "open when he's covered" and showed flashes last year. Might be Danario Alexander with good knees. And, he's affordable!!! Don't know who we can get at Guard. They screwed up with Rhinehart... We need to be realistic--there will be no big signings. That was last year. Deal with plug-in guys. Take a shot at DJ Williams--versatile LBer--has a two year deal in him. Make sure he checks out--i.e., he's learned his lessons. Is also affordable.
  21. Always one of my favorite LBers in Madden (very fast!) sure that translates to the NFL!!
  22. Amen! I'm not one for hating but you got it right with the David Nelson crap. DHB at a fair price is worth a shot.
