All the depth guys are flying off the board now—DT, LB, S, RB, WR. Gotta trust our late round scouting to come up with the best of the rest and gotta trade back up too many picks and not enough roster spots.

Here’s the big DT1. I hope Nielsen and Rebrovich can coach him up.

Was worried we’d take him in a trade down from 30 to the top of the second. Taking him in the third seems like a sweet deal. He was mocked higher—he has both the production in college and the RAS. If he’s the next Maxx Crosby I’ll be elated (heard Greg Cosell’s comp🫰). I’m feeling a lot better with a CB, DT and DE in the first three rounds all positions of real need. Now, get a DT1, a vertical threat WR, LB and RB and I’ll be a happy camper (we have seven picks left and don’t have room for that many so we can use the extra picks to move up where we can).

Five DTs came off the board last night and the ones we’d hoped for went well before us. Sanders was generally ranked in the 5-7 range of DTs in one of the deepest classes in a long time. So, the fact that we took him as the 6th DT coupled with the fact that SF took Collins next, seems to validate the range of the pick and the trade was fair based on the charts. The Bills have their “type” and Sanders seems to be a perfect fit. Here’s another positive write up on Sanders this one from the ESPN: “Sanders is an outstanding run defender who can play two gaps and one gap. He shoots his hands, stacks blockers and sheds in time to make plays. He's light but is strong, and he holds his ground on-on-one. He slips blocks, locates the ball and wraps up in the backfield. Sanders won't have to come off the field in passing situations. He gets to the quarterback by winning with his hands and his ability to change directions. He excels at running stunts.” There have been a lot of other positive comments about Sanders pre-draft and post-draft so I won’t rush to judgment. The draft is deep at DT so there’s still hope that we can get a traditional two down DT1 to complement the roster much like Hairston hopefully will and he wasn’t seen as a “Billsy pick” so maybe we’ll make a similar move later on.

FWIW, here’s the grade and comments on the Maxwell (“Mad Max”) Hairston pick from Rob Rang writing for Fox Sports: 30. Buffalo Bills: Maxwell Hairston, CB, Kentucky Rang: The Bills needed defensive playmakers in this draft to help Josh Allen get over the top and into the Super Bowl, and they certainly found a playmaker in the 2025 Combine speed champ. Hairston, who wins with pure man-to-man cover skills and big-play flair, returning half of his six career touchdowns back for touchdowns. This is one of my favorite picks given his talent and fit with a team needing a "finisher." Grade: A

If Grant or Harmon are there at 30, I think we should take one because a good penetrating DT will help stop the run/improve the pass rush/get Ed O back to ‘23 form/help to free up the LBs. If they’re not there, I think the “practical” pick will be a CB—preferably either Amos or Hairston. If we go CB at 30, with the depth at DT, I think we can still hit on two solid DTs (which I really want) like CJ West, Farmer, Caldwell, etc. I think the drop off at CB is greater because there isn’t close to the same level of depth. And, if we take a DT at 30, we have the draft capital to move up if needed from 56 to ease with the drop off at CB.

To help narrow down the real money, Spotrac has his market value as follows: 1 years, $1,364,649 (rounded up to to $1.4M). NFL Rank:1018 CB Rank:102 Think that answers the question about what the Bills expect from him and will certainly fool no other teams about the importance of Beane drafting a CB before the run starts on the second tier (as opposed to DT where we’ll be much safer when the run for the second tier of quality players commences and they’re very good players).

Agree and totally understand the uncertainty. We’re all just pulling this out of our ###es but I expect a DT ( with either 30, 56 or 62 and with Beane saying he’s going to move around and us not needing 10 bodies. I think it would be a missed opportunity with such a deep DT class not to take a second DT (run stuffer like a CJ West or Caldwell) either moving up into the 3rd or in the 4th or 5th and that won’t preclude us from getting the other positions you’ve identified and that I agree we should take a swing at (and that’s without considering a RB!). Let’s keep our 🫰Beane comes through!
