Joe Biden unfit for Veep

LOL, but don't state the obvious, she was on a roll.... -
You know most of the crap you just spewed is off target and I understand the different types of accounting. First off SS is or should be considered off budget, is self funded and its admin costs are low and the rest are funded as of right now! The Pentagon and defense budget currently make up over 50% of the budget, but the war has been taken some if off budget, which even more full of crap. Medicare is expensive and makes up a significant portion of the budget in today's dollars, cost or financial, but from what I remember transportation and commerce makes up about 25%, so your number can't be right. Social entitlement programs including education, food stamps and wic and welfare programs most of which are discretionary, "needing reauthorization every year" make up on average 20 percent. Part of the reason there is financial accounting and maybe you are right, is should all be done by cost accounting methods, but is justified because the money remains in the treasury until it is actually spent. That often takes a few years and sometimes it is not all spent, returned to the treasury, because it was authorized, but not appropriated, it was appropriated but the funds were not released because it was not authorized. It was cut or reduced in a subsequent bill and used as an offset for something else. So you may know something about an individual program or department and how it works and is accounted for, but it is not apparent you understand how Congress puts together it spending bills and why the financial accounting is used. I do agree that it opens up the potential for a lot of manipulation and abuse by using financial accounting, but with the numbers changing mid-game often times, it is almost impossible to keep track of until the money is actually spent. Your comment about Bureaucracy increasing under Bush is correct. Clinton with rival Whip Tom Delay, whose quote generated my login name, cut well over 200,000 bureaucrats. Now these bureaucracies are above the Bush I levels. So while Bush has been cutting taxes, he has been increasing the bureaucracy, the deficit and the debt, mostly under a Republican Congress. Borrow, Spend, Make War and mortgage our future is what the Republican Mantra should be. Heck even Palin and her pork projects for Wasilla contributed $12 million to the debt.

Even if it is less, it is a gross over statement. -

Agreed, they will end up sounding like HRC and she lost to Obama. Besides, I hate to say, but I wish the Republicans would stop whining about the scrutiny, it is unbecoming. -
I would call it normalizing. Unless oil drops back down to say about $60 a barrel, I wouldn't call it a free fall. Also when prices at the pump get back down below $2.00, then I would call a free fall. But with GWB or McCain adding a real energy plan, other than drill, drill, drill. Some of that is important but it has to be done with some common sense and environmental sensitivity. Otherwise, we will end up like China. On the AK front, unless oil cos can solve the pipeline leakage problem the 10% of Anwar that is protected should not be drilled on. The problem for those who don't know, it is not the oil, it is hot saltwater they pour through the pipeline to keep the oil moving. It causes corrosion and leaks. The oil can be cleaned up relatively easy from what I understand. The hot saltwater spreads out much further and causes permanent damage. So when folks say only a small amount of oil spilled that is usually true. The problem is that you have to multiply that by at least 10 for the saltwater and consider this type of damage. They solve that problem and with the new non-invasive drilling techniques they use, I have much less of a problem with them drilling there. P.S. All old coal fired plants should be shut down and rebuilt from scratch with the new technology. Because of all the old plants in Ohio, PA, WV, KY and Virginia, the Richmond through to NJ is the worst air quality in the country and isn't because of Elizabeth City, NJ. Drive around near one of those plants at night when they have it running at full capacity. You think there is a lot of fog in the area until you catch a wiff. It is soot. In fact, sometimes the air quality is worse in the evening and night time. And folks wonder why Asthma has increased so much on the East Coast in the last 20 years.

Agreed, neither side is enthralled with their own, but dislike's the other side's candidate so badly that they both are in attack campaign mode early, looking for every wart, exposing it and beating it to death. It is fun actually, but I wouldn't call it rallying around one's candidate. Maybe a few are, but overall we are cynically engaged.

John McCain may have just lost Florida!

What is more interesting in the implication in the article that her church supports Jews for Jesus. Like Obama had to with his preacher, I would suggest that she come out and completely disavows herself from the views of this group and her church's allowing this group a forum. If I were the press, I would ask her about her views on this subject, probably why the GOP has sequestered her from them until they can fully prep her or get to respond in a way that is less inflammatory. -

I will, thanks, that is part of the mudslinging. Just like the opposite side's use of "Libtards". -
Troubled, what does that mean? Yes, I have met a few that made a mistake, had a tough time, but were handling it with grace and dignity. More so than then the stability of folks on this board. since we don't know what is in thisteenagers heart nor should we since she is not running for office, the only even remotely debatable issue here is how did Gov. Palin react to her daughter's pregnancy. That is relevant, the rest is out of bounds.

You forgot: "and Republicans are Doves" or don't you remember their opposition to the intervention in Bosnia. Both extremes are hypocrites on these issue and both have significant pacifist contingents within their supporters. -

It wasn't about the irresistibility of the term, I debated throwing it in or not and figured I would do so to get a reaction. It was unnecessary in the context of a serious statement, but on this board...... Unfortunately, your response was too subdued. I was hoping for an F U. But that is my point, mudslinging has been around a long time and now one should be surprised by it, in politics or this board. The holier than thou attitude of some folks here kills me. Please, we all sling it with the best we can bring even if it is just insulting the messenger. -

Please, don't be so disingenous. If the shoe were on the other foot Limbaugh, OReilly, Gingrich, Hannity, Rove et al, wait the shoe is on the other foot and these anti-repig bloggers are amateurs compared those guys have thrown at Clinton and OBama. The real american accusation, though John McSame was born in Panama-granted a territory at the time, but really, the muslim lie, the trashing of Michelle Obama, the lesbian jokes about HRC, the shrill voice imitations, the bashing of Chelsea....I could go on. This is politics, been like this since before the muckracking days of the 20s and 30s. -

And this is why I have always said politics is the toughest contact sport in the world. P.S. Some idiot on morning Joe from the Wall Street Journal just said the United States is made up a 100,000 small towns made up of 10,000 people...in defense of Palin's experience as mayor. Oh really! that would put our small town population at 1 Billion and with our cities we would be close to the most populous country in the world. Whatever and the Palin idiocy continues. -
