  1. Noice, ....Still inane debates are so much more fun.
  2. Ah jeez, there is so much more here that could be used. An anti-depressant so that we Americans don't jump the shark should McCain get elected. This whole campaign is depressing... John McCain puts me to sleep, need a pick me up. Four more years of Iraq I could go on
  3. So I said to the woman with the one leg shorter than the other, I said Eileen .. .
  4. I appreciate your sentiments and your description of the event and memory. The smell of jet fuel brings back the memory really fast for me that and my wife's phone call yelling at me to get the hell out of the Capitol while I and she watched the Pentagon burn from a tall building in Arlington. I will ignore your analysis of the left and flagging waving for Bush. I disagree with both assessments, but will do so respectfully. I just wish more time could be/have been spent focusing on Afghanistan where the terrorists are and have been, not Iraq.
  5. Guess it goes both ways... not that there is anything wrong with that
  6. That was in large part due to Clinton, he cagoled the mideast sheiks and threatened large releases of the SPR, in fact he did it at least once. A strong dollar helped to, due to the .com boom and lowering deficit and lower interest rates.
  7. Actually it started with the previous year's budget, but because there were tax increases despite spending increases slowing to help balance the budget Democrats paid a huge price. That being said, a Republican controlled Congress especially having appropriations controlled by budget hawks Delay and Armey combined with Clinton's bureaucracy reductions had the largest impacts. Both sides benefited from large numbers of aging bureaucrats ready for retirement.
  8. Hmmm, so here is my new avatar. Anyone going to to whine about age discrimination.
  9. That is "Whine"... check your spelling .... with McCain, I would have to say it "DEPENDS"
  10. Agreed on that one, with the current electorate the way it is, you had to know that 38% wasn't going to last. My bet is that the elections overall vote will be no more than a 5% margin either way. And with two independents running, I bet no one gets more than 49% of the vote.
  11. Don't bother, he isn't worth the effort. Think though that you are right, both sides early on realized what an event Palin would be. Short-term this works for the Republicans, the Dems have to play defense on her and that is never good. The sooner they get back to McCain the better for them. The longer he can use her as a foil for attacks the less negative he appears. I think the Dems including bloggers should ignore her and go back to focusing in on McCain and his obvious leadership issues, especially his temper, health, and policy flip-flops.
  12. Interesting article, I think it sums up the Palin factor and her effect on this campaign pretty well for right now. Things can change in a couple of months of campaigning but if I were to bet right now there is a slight edge to the McCain Camp.
  13. Gonna watch sports today only, let me know if anything of significance on the political front happens.
  14. I disagree, maybe because I was in the soup of DC too long, but what I believe is the problem is not the parties. I think they define themselves fairly distinctly and those representing them intend to be distinct, but once they get to Washington they get swallowed up by the infrastructure. Things only seem to change when there is a certain amount of rotation in the field and competition for power. That being said, if one one wants change it might be good Obama to win but the Dems lose Congress. That won't happen right away, but it could in two years. Party Id though gives someone a short cut on what that person generally stands for. I will give the side I id the initial benefit of support unless something glaring jumps out that I don't like. The other side's candidate I am likely to look immediately for stands I disagree with that they typically hold. If there is moderation and some other things I agree with, then I will consider them. So what I am saying is Party ID is a short cut. For some it is too easy a short cut, but don't discount it out of hand.
  15. Sorry, didn't catch your post, just thought it was pretty impressive.
  16. I believe in NY you can. I will have to check on it. I do know they allow it in mayoral elections. Mayor Jimmy Griffin of Buffalo won one election if memory serves me right with a 20% write in campaign against him, after Arthur Eve, his opponent died right before the election.
  17. I couldn't agree more with you, I just really don't like McCain I have said and continue to state I will likely write in Sen. Chuck Hagel, NE
  18. According to MSNBC this evening Ron Paul is submitting or has enough signatures to get on the ballet in Montana!
  19. Hence my screen name. It comes from a quote by Tom Delay former Republican Whip and Majority Leader in the House. "The only things in the middle of the road are yellow lines and dead armadillos"
  20. I took your request the same way, appreciate your response. I was mostly just posting it for the tongue and cheek factor, but given the latest arguments, I actually like the intellectual debates more. Problem is that I still enjoy the immature ones too.
  21. You are right! It changed in 1994, although a majority of Republicans voted for it. A majority of Dems voted against it in the House: http://clerk.house.gov/evs/1993/roll575.xml 28 Dems and 10 Reps voted against it in the Senate: http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll...&vote=00395
  22. I am not sure I am supportin Obama. I am not supporting McCain. Apparently, there are some lawsuits over this issue in AK and Palin is withholding 1100 emails with the cc of Todd Palin on it. Don't know how serious these accusation are. Agree.... I know David Korn and he is to the left of lets just say normal lefties.
