  1. And that is the answer? Guess you can't get out of those mandatory taxes... or what you would call flat taxes! Because unless there is an increase in benefits, the biggest tax increaser the last 10-30 years have been states. I am waiting for a tax revolt on that level.
  2. National Health Insurance Yipee! Sarcasm, still would be ironic if this is how it gets done.... HA!
  3. Start to name a few and I am sure you can find some, most will not ad up to what you think and others have large constiuencies, a la mineral royalties that become impossible to change, so unless you want to get specific with both programs, dollars and how to accomplish it politically all you rehashing is a useless overused Republican talking point. If you want to get specific, then we can figure out what is wasteful and how eliminating it might be accomplished.
  4. Yep, on the surface it sounds like a good deal, but the details are what drives folks up the wall. In order to correct the inequity, the government would have to create tax tables of the estimate of those sales at each level and tax ADM accordingly... still 7% and now the government is defacto setting the price (or at least a floor), eliminating free market principles to work.
  5. It is one of those weird distortions that has occurred as a result of changes in the tax law... interestingly though states have increased taxes, both on an income level and or in sales taxes. I would like to know more about the distribution of overall taxes on everyone before I make a judgment as to whether I think this is a bad thing.
  6. They do put in a lot of hours in a day and staff even more. Often the staff has them back in their districts running around every day talking to people, yes fundraising too, but mostly spending time in their states and districts meeting people and finding out what is important as well as IDing people who can use help dealing with different bureaucracies. As a staffer myself, we were tasked with keeping my bosses busy, then we had to follow up on his visits and if a call was needed by the Congressman then we made that happen too. So to say they are out of session doesn't necessarily mean much. If however, said congressman is off doing things that he or she shouldn't then the criticism is valid, but most are working in state when not in session...Community Organizing!
  7. And now Bush Admin has become a socialistic regime... SEC Bans Short Selling. http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20080919/bs_af...te_080919123052 Did this need to happen???
  8. Interesting, which is why I am concerned about him... P.S. My favorite Senator Chuck Hagel just skewered Palin as unfit to lead.... http://www.boston.com/news/politics/politi..._questions.html
  9. Interesting, but sounds more like a Rove plot then anything real, especially since there was no real info in the emails. Nice to try and pin this on young dem hacker. If it is then throw the book at him or her, but I am doubtful... sounds too much like a Rather set up.
  10. Had one for years, Senator Byrd's office use to hand them out once a year.
  11. And here we go again, dancing around the right and left stripper poles Let me see if I can shorten the rest of the posts. Cheney....v. Hillary McSame....v. Osama Haliburtin...v. Pelosi Enron...v. Liberal News Media Faux Ewes...v. Socialist Oxy Boy...v. Flag Burners Whatever....
  12. Don't need to, just watch the hearing schedule and pay some college kid from GW to get in line at about 7am to hold a spot in line for you or find an intern who is not making any money to call in sick and hold the spot. Even better, the intern can usually get there at 5am and wait, feed them and they can sleep in front of the door!
  13. That's what I figured, I was a stat and logic man, didn't go that far in math, but even I could see opening on that one.
  14. No but some wiz kid lawyer staffer does and he knows how to write the legislation. Probably already had a draft in the hopper ready for the right moment. Wouldn't doubt if there were a couple of wall street types that were consulted behind the scenes to look for any red flags and Schumer would have insisted on it.
  15. By definition that is true, but if you define 2 and 4 or just the plus differently it could be something else, hence it is not an absolute. And if some math wiz on this board knows some sort of calculus derivative that can come up with an exception, then even by definition 2+2=4 may not be an absolute.
  16. Nice thought, not sure how that would play out good or bad, definitely more streamlined... will never happen, too many folks have stakes in their fiefdoms to ever allow this to happen, especially the states. They have fought tooth and nail to preserve their authority over insurance and state banks, though most have national charters now. Then there is the SEC and the CFTC not to mention the Treasury Department and the Commerce Department. Talk about a political cluster !@#$.
  17. Yeh right, might as well give it away then. Draw it out till there is no money left, at least some people will get back what they paid into it. You privatize it now and you can kiss it goodbye. Plus it is still being used as a budget offset to distort things making them seem better than they actually are.
  18. First off I was being sarcastic. That being said, to answer your question, Yes, especially for those that can best afford it. How else are we going to pay for this unjustified !@#$ing war in Iraq, more borrow and spend? This is the same thing that is happening in the financial world -- too much borrowing and spending and no pay for. Stop bleeding the middle class workers for all your bridge to no wheres, oh I decided not waste it on that but spend 23-4 mil on things in a town of 8,000 that gets oil royalties to boot. Please, keep that tax money at home, make foreigners like this ladies' husband pay more.
  19. That is called a yellow dog democrat. That being said, I have concerns about Obama, but I can't support 90% McSame
  20. I agree, I can understand why she is voting for McCain. Obama just threatened to raise her taxes and she definitely is not patriotic, at least not an American patriot. That being said she came across as someone the campaigns on both side tolerate because of their money but can't stand to be around, even McCain's wife who comes from that kind of money doesn't strike me as someone who socializes with this kind of snobbery. Yuck, lose some make-up and get out in the sun once in a while.
  21. Enron! Blackwater....
  22. Talk about conspiracy theories. The first time I have heard Clinton blamed for 911. That is rich. Pretty soon he will blamed for us George Bush lying about wmd and going into Iraq. Pleeease.....
  23. McCain has admitted as such about his lack of computer use, Morris is a political hack, a smart one, but he plays to the highest bidder, so no he is not a trust worth authority.
  24. P.S. I wish as a staffer I worked 8:30-4:30. Was usually there from 7:00am till 8:00 pm on a good day.
