Bills you no longer like after meeting them in person
Lurker replied to major's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This thread makes me laugh. I get more of an impression of what the posters are like than I do of the players... -
So is reading comprehension, sadly...

Stupid premise. Many tickets in larger cities are sold to corportate buyers who just treat it as a business expense. It's imposible to draw conclusions from that kind of economic disparity... Sadly, it wasn't. These guys should definitely know how to do better reseach than this.... https://scholarblogs.emory.edu/esma/about-us/

Clemson OT Isaiah Battle to enter Supplemental draft
Lurker replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You'd have to sign him to the active roster, which sounds like a real reach given how raw he is right now... -

Clemson OT Isaiah Battle to enter Supplemental draft

http://www.buffalorumblings.com/buffalo-bills-news/2015/7/9/8922123/isaiah-battle-pro-day-buffalo-bills-offensive-line-coach Teams are ordered via a lottery system based on their records in the previous season. The Bills, with a 9-7 record and a finish outside of the playoffs, will be placed somewhere between the Nos. 11 and 20 picks in this order. Once the order is set, teams are allowed to bid a draft pick in a specific round on any players they want to draft. If a player is bid upon, the team who submitted the highest bid is awarded the player, and sacrifices the corresponding round's pick in the next year's draft. -
Is the Polish Villa still open?
Lurker replied to Pine Barrens Mafia's topic in Off the Wall Archives
It always amazes me how few people use Google... http://thevilla.localplacement.net/ -
Man, I pick on the Snooze all the time, but in this instance you're barking up the wrong tree. That post is part of the Bills Blitz BLOG, not a 'article'. Blogs pick up and reference other news stories all the time and it clearly says "This lull on the football calendar before training camp means the Internet will be scattered with just about every list and ranking you can imagine. Over at The MMQB, Andy Benoit ranked the 32 starting quarterbacks in the NFL. Of course the Buffalo Bills' competition will continue into August, but they took dead last in this ranking." with a link to the original source for attribution. You can untwist your knickers now and spend a bit more time on other important things...

I wonder if any UK rock fans are put out that Mick and the boys are playing in Buffalo Saturday night? I can just hear it now...."Why can't they just play every gig in London? Why let the Yanks get to enjoy them, we should have them all to ourselves?"
-
And keep that damn english football on the other side of the pond where it belongs. No one in the red-blooded, beer swilling U.S. of A cares about that mamby-pamby foreign game...

Sure you can if you've got enough comparables (three years of performance data) and have a conviction that the guy can do it for another 4-6-8 years. That's were these 'elite' QB contracts fall down in my estimation. A guy like Manning will never earn his current contract (even with the pay cut) because he was paid like he was still in his prime as a Colt. Brees may be the next guy to start down that path. Big Ben four years from now is unlikely to be the guy he was last year. GMs are paying for past performance, since it's less risky ("hey, the fans would kill me if I didn't!") than sticking your neck out an paying for potential. And with the rigged player ownership world of the NFL, they can get away with it. But again, in a free market non-CBA world outside of pro sports, some owner (i.e., Pegs for example) would say "I want that guy" and Wilson would be paid like BB, Rogers et al.
-
I'm not getting through to you, so be it. Paying someone for what they accomplished 3-5-7 years ago is a fools game. Paying someone for what they may accomplish 1-2-3-4-5 years from now is how the real world of supply and demand works. Does it always work out? of course not. But that's the risk the employer takes when there are only a couple dozen individuals in the world capable of doing something unique and valuable...

Kap isn't in the same zipcode as Wilson from a stats perspective: Kaps first three years (2011-13): 32 games, 5,046 yards on 639 attempts, 158 yards per game, 31 TDs, 17-6 record in regular season, 2-1 post-season. Wilson's first three years (2012-14): 48 games, 9,950 yards on 1,252 attempts, 207 yards per game, 72 TDs, 36-12 record in regular season, 6-2 post-season, one SB and one near-miss.

Who cares about demonstrated? There's no way a 3-year vet can have the same accomplishments as a 10-year player without a time machine. But put both guys on the free market (not the NFL version) and RW would get paid the equivalent, IMO, given that he'll be capable of doing it for another decade vs. 3-4 more years for BB...

Two super bowls in his first three years as a player isn't accomplishing much? Yikes! I don't get why so many folks think Wilson should not be paid like the 'elite' guys. As an employer, it doesn't make a lot of sense to pay someone for their past accomplishments. It's about what that individual would command on the open market, lest a competitor steal them away In the artificial world of the NFL the Hawks' are truly lucky they don't face that dynamic. But I have no doubt that some team would pay Wilson the equivalent of Big Ben's contract if he were free to sell his services to the highest bidder...

He arguably is today. And maybe tomorrow. But given the punishment he takes, what will he be like in year four of that contract when he's 37 years old or year five when he's 38? Wilson's six years younger with a lot less tread on his tires. And aside from the fact that Ben averages ten more throws per game, their stats are comparable over the past three years. Throw in Wilson's 15 game winning drives to 9 for Ben and 6-2 in playoff record to Rothlisberger's 0-2. Pay the man...

That's the problem with the NFL salary structure. Older guys who've 'done it' get paid, even if they're on the downward arc of their career and are unlikely to earn their current contract (Manning, Brees, possibly Big Ben). Guys like Wilson who have 'only' one ring have to prove it again, even though he was a play away from having a second ring. Makes me think of grumpy old guys yelling 'get off the damn grass, you kids...'

Probably because they were ahead in most games and didn't need to throw. Passing isn't an end in inself. It's still higher risk than running. And with the Hawk's running game, why not be the modern version of the the great Packers and Dolphins teams where Starr and Griese didn't tear up the league through the air either...
-
Who's to say he couldn't succeed with those teams, since his mobility would offset their poor OL play and mediocre wideouts. He'd certainly be better equiped than Brady or Flacco or Big Ben in similar situations. Besides, no 'elite' QB is going to win with an average-to-bad defense or run of the mill coaching. Putting Manning or Rogers on either team wouldn't get you to the SB either, IMO....

John Miller: The straight and narrow
Lurker replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good article, I'm looking forward to reading more of Tyler's work. But way premature, in terms of setting Miller up to be the answer at guard, IMO. Knowing your assignments is a great thing for a rookie. But he'll be out-weighed by 20-30 pounds against the top DT's in the AFCE and it will be interesting to see if he can overcome that disadvantage when the pads come on... -
Perhaps his wife thinks RW is more handsome as well I don't get it either. He's everything you'd want a 26-year old QB to be, with a ton of invaluable playoff experience to boot. It's surely frustrating for him to see guys on the downside of their careers getting paid for past perfomance while he's still ascending and facing all kinds of arguments as to why he's not worthy of the $$$...

Really interesting stats from today's Boston Globe: http://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/2015/07/04/sizing-afc-east-top-offseason-moves/fH2BRlOah7gBC4J2BrC8mI/story.html "Russell Wilson’s rookie contract is set to expire after the 2015 season and multiple media reports indicate the Seattle Seahawks quarterback wants to become the highest-paid signal-caller in the NFL. This in a nutshell. There's a lot more to being a pro than being young, strong and mobile. In that sense, Hunter is just an on-the-field version of what Andre is doing with the WRs. He'll help mentor the young OL at training camp and then go back to 'real life' after the cutdown...
