Interesting point worth exploring more. Was it a personality thing, or football philosophy, or both? TD and Cowher spent a number of years together in Pittsburgh. Then TD came to Buffalo and apparently completely forgot or abandoned the Steelers bread and butter philosophy of a bruising running attack behind a dominant O-line and stopping the run with stud linebackers in favor of gadget players like Roscoe Parrish.

Agreed. Arguably no coach in the NFL has done a better job with their O-line over the last decade than Reid, hence the annual trip to the playoffs. Peters tanking it was OBD propoganda. He knew what he was worth and he got it in a league with a bunch of petulant cry baby stars, something Ralph hasnt realized yet.

Having lived in the Philly area for a decade I watch a lot of the Eagles as a perennial playoff contender: 1. Hired a coach/GM off a proven coaching tree (Reid from Holmgren, subsequently divested of GM title) 2. Had an Overall Vision and STUCK WITH IT and drafted around it (WC Offense; Pressure Defense) 3. Drafted early on a strong armed, mobile, coachable franchise QB in McNabb even though they got laughed at and booed 4. Consistently address the O and interior D lines early and often in the draft, too many examples to list (NEVER running backs (Westbrook 4th round), linebackers (name one) or safeties (Dawkins an exception in the 2nd before Reid got there)). 5. Trade down when they see no value, not afraid to stockpile draft picks (see budding star Jackson, their first pick after trading down, in the second round) Like Marv said, simple but not easy.

How about only 7 home games a year, plus two guaranteed division losses per year to the Hoody? I wont even mention Buffalo as Siberia to potential free agents. Allin all an uphill battle to the playoffs.
